Raven93 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 You know when it goes Far away , far away Waste away tonight ? I keep saying Far away , far away This amazing night Still used to the red 7 version
Heather. Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Oh just recalled the "talk myself out of.." from the studio update where Billie was recording his vocals. But I am sure this has already been spotted and mentioned Nice!! And we knew that video was Oh Love, because of the guitar part at the end, but I was wondering about those lyrics! I miss the "Don't stop under my touch,"... I also miss what I THOUGHT the lyrics were going to be Kind of like when we deciphered parts of Amy, and our parts turned out to be slightly more poetic than the actual thing
justcause Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 holy cow congrats on getting your doggie back!!!!!♥ I know I know I know !!! Thanx
Gwen Stacy Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Every time I listen to it, it grows on me more and more
farley drexel hatcher Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 It feels really new and unexpected - love that, it has that freed-up Foxboro thing to it. Big thing is the vocal, so clear and close and expressive, and btw, I fucking love the lyrics - they're all edgey and angular, straight-up and mysterious at the same time. Also, completely obvious that this is both a now-song and the middle of a story, 'cause it's full of what-ifs, hopes and romantic dreams all mixed up with cynicism and despair. Don't you totally wanna know what's gonna happen this 'tonite', when all of it comes together?? Fuck, yeah!! I like it that it's somehow low-key and epic at the same time, like it that it's not kind of obvious - that gives it that off-beat, slouchy Foxboro vibe too. Influences are upfront and unapologetic, again a Foxboro thing - I'd go 'All Right Now' for the verses, feel like 'The Great Pretender' vibe in the chorus is more of a reference. Beautiful, soaring-over bridge is all Green Day. Fucking love this song - it's full of everything. K, and on a personal note, I didn't get to hear this song at the 'appointed time', because right then I was at the pound being reunited with my dog who'd been missing for six fucking weeks - pretty fucking emotional day, all in all, and all so fucking GREAT!!! So glad you got your dog back, six weeks is a long time! And I agree with everything you said XD
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I'm enjoying it. The lyrics are simple but they're a world apart from the muddled overindulgence in similes of the last album. Every 2nd line begins "Like a something something" on that record. Here is a return to straightforward lyrics, although they aren't hugely deep or anything, the general message of the song is there. Reminds me of the early Beatles stuff in that regard. Simple lyrics and simple musicianship can still work. And the chorus got stuck in my head after one listen, that's when you know it's a good 'un.
cabot_girl Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I'm sorry..personal feeling after first listen..a bit disappointed:-( I do hope it will grow on me.
Ritz Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 The more I listen to it, the more awesome it sounds. Bad time for taking a vacation. I miss my computer -_-
justcause Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 So glad you got your dog back, six weeks is a long time! And I agree with everything you said XD Too right it is - dog is now laying on the floor, listening to 'Oh Love', and I guess I should stop letting her hijack this thread, lol!!
1039SweetChildren Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Did anybody else get chills all over their body the first time they heard the song? It was quite an experience.
Ritz Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Did anybody else get chills all over their body the first time they heard the song? It was quite an experience. I did get goosebumps. The feeling was awesome !
Amanda Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Did anybody else get chills all over their body the first time they heard the song? It was quite an experience. Olivia Newton John is waiting for you to go dance with her at the fairground.
sampy Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Did anybody else get chills all over their body the first time they heard the song? It was quite an experience. Yes I really did!
Mary Daze Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 When I first thought about the first single of a Trilogy I thought of something like Stay The Night or Carpe Diem. A catchy number that the guys love to play live and is radio friendly. In fact, Oh Love was one of the last songs I thought of by making speculations about the first single. I had my doubts with this song being the first one, I was kinda worried ''what if the majority isn't that into the first single and then it'll ruin the promotion of at least uno, maybe people wouldn't even like to listen to the 2nd and 3rd single because they tought they would be just the same [bla. bla. blaa...]'' But after that Billboard Article showed up I'm not worried about that anymore AT ALL. Let's see. There will be 3-4 singles PER ALBUM -> means: 9-12 singles in a whole for the trilogy. These 3-4 singles will be released BEFORE every part of the trilogy comes out. Since the first single for a normal album usually is the onliest single before an album comes out it is the ''first impression'' for the potential CD-buyer so the first one is heavily important for the 'success' of the album. BUT: We'll get 3-4 'first singles' because all of these will come up before each album comes out, so this is basically the warm-up for the trilogy, don't you think so? These guys and Rob know what they are doing. The other singles (Stay The Night, Let Yourself Go and Kill The DJ) for Uno will all be really catchy numbers that have a big amount of energy and will stuck in your head even if you never liked GD before. So I don't think we have a huge problem with the promotion which is obviously feared by some of you guys. Next thing I wanted to point out: The song itself. From the first second you can hear a really great sound of that guitar I immediately fell in love with, you don't want to pause the song, it's catchy even if it's not as fast as LYG etc. Right now the lyrics doesn't make much sense to me, maybe it is me (I always need my time to get the exact meaning of each song since English isn't my first language), but I'm convinced that it'll make much more sense once the music video is out. And we'll also know more about the exact meaning with upcoming interviews etc. The guitar solo is something you can't hear that often in nowadays' radio, same with the sound of it. I really love it. Even though the lyrics has to grow on me a little more. It's a song I really like to listen to. And -of course- Billie's voice sounds big. So natural and full of energy. It isn't my favorite song off the trilogy from what I've heard from the live recordings and interviews so far, but I think it's well working as a first single, even if it doesn't seem like that. It is building up the whole hype about the trilogy and I think it is better releasing a warm-up song first and then going on with more powerfull songs like Stay The Night than crashing the News with LYG and then being a little disappointed about Oh Love being not as catchy as the other singles so the excitement cools down, if you know what I mean.
Nuclear Family Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 On my first listen, I was kind of disappointed. This is mainly because of how excited I was for it, but then of course the actual event was kind of anti-climactic. Plus, I had a serious WTF? moment when I heard the chorus, and how they changed the lyrics from the secret shows. At first, I thought Billie was just singing it wrong. Another thing that bugged me was the drums in this song. The fill right before the chorus annoyed me at first. It starts up nice, but then kind of dies at the end. However, I was just being really over-critical, because before I knew it I was on my 8th listen. VERY addicting song. My favorite parts being the chorus, and the solo (There is a part in it that sounds something right out of 39/Smooth's solos, which is awesome)
Trina Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 ~ Lovely thoughts and I know you don't wanna let doggy hijack the thread but seriously, wow, I'm so pleased for you. <3 SIX WEEKS...that is just insanity. I'm so glad you're re-united. Pretty amazing day! SO happy for you. No, since2004-5. the thing with 1987 was to illustrate how long he actually has sung live. Sung? doesn't sound right. Hmm, well I think even between '04/'05 and now there is quite a noticeable improvement. Maybe he had it in him all along though, and he's just more confident after B'way to do so. Mmm, yeah, sang? idk Anyways we'll have to agree to disagree.
parkwayjuli Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Damn the song is simply awesome ! To be honest I had lower expectations on this song (y'know?). So I was really happy when I heart it and I could say " Hell yeah Green Day are back". Lets start another amazing Green Day era !!
pretty_and_demented Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Did anyone else notice that they posted it to their sound cloud 5 days ago? Surprised none of us found it before then.
blitzkriegdeb Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I can't decide if I like it or not. I don't like how repetitive it is and how the song just kind of drags on, but on the other hand it did get stuck in my head. It might also be because I only listened to it once and I had just woken up before I listened to it. I'll give it a proper listening-to when I get home from work.
Kitty Purry Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 just downloaded song putting on my ipod right now
WestboundSign! Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 But it's not like Broadway popped his live cherry. Billie's been singing since like 1987, I think he's found his style already. I didn't say anything about his style of singing, I think. At least that's not what I was trying to say. But in my opinion, his voice sounds huge in this single. Let's not weigh every single word someone on here writes. That might sound weird but I don't always know how to find the right words in English. I hope you get what I mean.
CarpetDietVictim Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Did anyone else notice that they posted it to their sound cloud 5 days ago? Surprised none of us found it before then. You´re right Hmm, but now we all know the song. So it isn´t so bad. By the way, I love the song!!!
Comrade Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 This is a song written for live performances and not the radio. The single will perform average at best. Is it all that good? No, not really. To be brutally honest as a Green Day song it isn't their best, but my gut says that it rests comfortably in the top half of their catalog. Green Day don't need huge singles anymore. They are an album/live band. I'm happy with it though. It's a cracking tune.
petros Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 It's an awesome song I really like it. But from green day in this trilogy everyone expected something more upbeat and fast as the first single. No problem with me though we'll hear those songs soon.
LittleBoyNamedTrain Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I don't understand why people don't like it! It's fucking fabulous. Oh Love > Know Your Enemy. This trilogy is going to be fantastic.
