Cris. Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 WhiteTim posted while I was writting my own post, and I had not read the previous pages: Which if Kurt didnt do a last minute edit would've been fucked off but seeing Sams edit was so fucking unwatchable fuck him he also destroyed Nightmare On Elm Street.... I also dont like some of Sam Bayers work. The Videos where Sam brought in actors and added dialogue really do suck. That is WMUWSE and JOS, but its just the acting parts. WMUWSE is the worst for this, however I think the edited version of that video which cuts out the rubbish acting sequences is actually really good. As For AI BOBD and Holiday, I have no problems with those He also made my Favorite Music Video ever. Smells Like Teen Spirit so I'm not the only one who hates Sam Bayer, thank god. I was worried I'd get a lot of hate for my hate towards him. and I agree, the videos for AI, Holiday and BOBD were good, but it's like after that he ego grew just too much and decided he'd rather make movies ithan videos and add minutes of dialogue to songs that were very long themselves... and eve if they hadn't been long... interrupting a song just to add so speech... argh!
WhiteTim Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 To be fair its not sayin Sam doing the documentaries...
Clockwise Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I think people are jumping all over Sam Bayer a little too much. There's no denying he's a great director. AI/Boulevard/Holiday are all classic videos in my opinion, and videos that I grew up on. I don't dislike Wake Me Up or JOS either, but the style is dramatically different. I feel like we'll get some more fun videos like the first three I mentioned. Also, Bullet in a Bible is wonderful, although the part about him was definitely not needed. He's a great director, and he's also a character, as evident in Bullet and in all of the Making The Video segments.
WhiteTim Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Naw hes not a charector just a sexist ass dickhead...
DannyDirnt Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I don't really get why people say he's an ass. But I have seen no parts about him either, I know nothing about Sam Bayer...
Tubbie Head Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I liked BIAB, as long as he doesn't make another JoS or WMUWSE I'm ok with it.
WhiteTim Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Ahhhhh my friend and I were just talking yesterday about how we hoped they would release a documentary with the albums, then I come on here and see this And I'm stoked Sam Bayer is coming back. He did an amazing job with Bullet and the first 3 videos from AI. I might be a little bit biased though since watching the Making of the AI video on MTV was how I got turned on to Green Day in the first place so I've known Sam since the beginning... I've actually met him and he was SUPER nice. He talked to me, my mom, and my friend outside of a GD show in 2005 for almost 2 hours and he gave me his own copies of the Making of AI and BOBD on DVD. Thats good but he is a sexist i know for what he did to a close friend of mine who used to work for him and sued him he settled real quick didnt dispute the claims but if otgers like him thats cool the shit was in the mid late 90s he may have changed as he gotten older if so good for him

Heck not even Green Day have probably lived a perfect saintly life. As you said, he settled it, all sorted. People make mistakes. And that was a LONG time ago. It doesn't impact the fact he's a great director and has made some AMAZING videos, which is what he's working with Green Day with. Hence this announcement. That is all.
Bastard of 1967 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Not sure what all the JoS video hate is all about. When I first saw it (esp. the long-version "director's cut") I actually found it captivating, riveting -- and it's one of the things that made me give Green Day a close look again so many years after first hearing Good Riddance...that is, it helped turn me from a casual viewer into a fan. By showcasing how an entire subculture of forgotten, left-behind, working-class children live, or perhaps I should say "somehow manage to survive," Bayer did an outstanding job interpreting where the real pull of JoS leads you. He captured in a music video the same quality of rage, angst, frustration, and destruction that Michael Mayer & Co. later brought to the stage. I think Bayer simply "got" the message, the impact, of what JoS' so many different themes are all about, and successfully brought this to life for us on the screen. If he can pull off something anywhere close to this again with Green Day's new material, they'll be in good hands.
basketcase85 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I didn't mind the videos Sam Bayer did, just the over the top screeching by the girl in wake me up when september ends got on my nerves. He seems have a lot of passion for his work though. Just a shame he comes across as a bit of a dick while doing it
Harinezumi Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I don't like Sam Bayer. He seems like an egomaniac to me. Some of his videos are good, but then again so many other videos are too. I wonder why they would choose him again, but they are definitely changing the style a lot from 21CB for sure. Maybe they thought his style would fit the albums. But what I don't get it is there are plenty of other directors who are just as capable. Also, I'm still pissed that they are making new documentaries and not even mentioning HLAHG. Pre-Dookie? How is that more relevant than HLAHG? I get the other one but.... they sure like to rub it in John Roecker`s face, huh Having said that, I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT TO SEE THEM!!!

In my opinion the characters in the JOS video behave like annoying little wankers and look like a bunch of posers with their po faced blank stares and perfectly styled hair and make up and fancy clothes. Rather than working class kids who are part of scene that they care about they just come across as spoiled brats dressing up in punk fashion to me. But hopefully since the style of these albums is totally different there won't be any videos like that anyway
Harry Potter. Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I hope that not happen like HLAHG... That would just... Suck. :'(
pretty_and_demented Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I like Sam's work. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the music video to WMUWSE. And why let a few bad things outweigh all the good things he has made?

I don't have anything against him (like I said most of his other stuff is fine) but I don't think the right message came across with JOS at all. It probably depends on your personal interpretation of the song though.
Harinezumi Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Rather than working class kids who are part of scene that they care about they just come across as spoiled brats dressing up in punk fashion to me. Kids who dress in punk "fashion" are posers, but aren't most kids like that anyway at some point in their life? I think the video is more about kids growing up in fucked up places, regardless of what that place is. Wouldn't it have been poser-ish to make a video about "true punks"? It is a never ending question. I prefer band-only videos. Anyway, I like JOS and BOBD. BIAB could have been done in a different way in my opinion. That is one of the reasons why I dislike Sam Bayer so much.
kellista Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I think Sam is going to be awesome. I am so excited that he's back! I didn't really like the JOS or WMUWSE videos but these new albums have a totally different vibe that are almost similar to the energy in the AI and Holiday videos. So I think its a perfect fit. I also hope that by bringing in Sam just like they did in the AI era, it foreshadows that this is going to be huge.
cabot_girl Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I dislike Sam very much...would think they had plenty of other people to do this...
Bastard of 1967 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I dislike Sam very much...would think they had plenty of other people to do this... The results he helped get for Green Day and Warner during the AI era speak for themselves, I think.
WhiteTim Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 The results he helped get for Green Day and Warner during the AI era speak for themselves, I think. Really? Mtv hardly plays videos i doubt the videos were that big into the sells... I like Mark Khol
Smoothed Out Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah Sam Bayer oh yeah oh yeah can't wait oh yeah oh yeah
sassafrasroot Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 The article seems a little vague in how it describes the band's collaboration with Sam Bayer. Green Day is also reuniting with director Sam Bayer who shot several of the band's videos, among them "Jesus of Suburbia." Does this mean for both of the documentaries? Or the music videos? I guess I'd assume the documentaries, as that's what the article is mainly talking about. If that's the case, I'm a little concerned. Bayer's music videos are very literal and often over the top. I just can't imagine how that, erm... "artistic vision" will mesh with the simplicity of a pre-dookie documentary, or the whimsy of the trilogy.
WhiteTim Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 If you read the first paragraphs you'd see whos doing the documentaries Sam is doing videos
Annie, get your gun Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I can't wait! It's just SO awesome I don't know if there could be greater news coming after this
BillieJoe1972 Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 My local radio station just played back to back Green Day songs and followed it up by discussing the new documentaries. The DJ was really excited about them!! I didn't hear anything we haven't already heard about them but it was just nice to hear him talking about the films. Then he went on to discuss the new albums. I'm looking forward to hearing more Green Day talk on the radio and television!!
