Silent Duck Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 It's going to have to be a catchy song to get a lot of airtime on radio these days. I'm sure Warner care more about making money than making music, so they'll obviously want something that has mass appeal. Probably going to be a lot of the usual naysayers saying that they've sold out (again ) if it is a radio friendly song. It doesn't mean though that the song is a representation of the whole album, Know Your Enemy definitely wasn't that! At least it'll be exciting to hear Green Day on the radio again, rather than hearing that Flo Rida song where he's metaphorically asking everyone to suck his dick.
warding_off_regrets Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Haha, everytime I look at the title "Oh Love," I start hearing "Oh Girl" by the Chi-lites in my head I've refrained from listneing to anything from the secret shows just because I want everything to be brand new when the singles/albums come out, but DAMN I'M EXCITED.
Jack [DF] Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 So. Fucking. Pumped. Oh, and I loved that list. Particularly Tre Cool will play drums somewhat.
Sanity Loan Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I'm not sure how I feel about this being a single, especially the lead single. From the version we've heard, I'm not that impressed with the song. It's a little slow and low-key from a lead single from Green Day. Who knows, I hope they've changed it around a bit and "jazzed" it up a little. I guess we'll have to wait and see! Though, the little portion of "Oh Love" we've heard in one of the studio videos does sound like it's changed.
blitzkriegdeb Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I just hope that the single doesn't go the way of what Know Your Enemy did to 21st Century Breakdown. Don't get me wrong, it's a good song, but it didn't represent what 21stCB, as an album, was. Regardless, it's new Green Day, so it's still exciting!
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Was it "pin the tail on the single" and it happened to land on Oh Love because there is no other good excuse for picking it as a FIRST single to a supposed epic trilogy for goodness sake! It reminds me of a lame Bon Jovi song...im sorry but it does. What happened to Carpe Diem, Let Yourself Go, Stay The Night or anything else that doesnt at best belong as a b-side. Know Your Enemy is now Jesus of Suburbia compared to this...at least it wouldn't put you to sleep. Plus the lyrics that i could make out (and were better than the ones i read on some site that were terrible so im hoping im more right) were, shall we say less than sensible...so does anyone know the actual lyrics?!
.Brian Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 The press release doesn't sound as if a physical copy would be released on July 16th :'(
farley drexel hatcher Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 All of you worried it's not big and epic enough, hold your horses. This single is out in three weeks, the album isn't out till October. There's plenty of time to release another single in the lead up to the album. This one is probably in the lead up for their scattered summer tour dates and to start things off. The press release doesn't sound as if a physical copy would be released on July 16th :'( I wouldn't count on any CD single releases :/ I don't think there were any past 21 Guns last time and even they were hard to come by
Sanity Loan Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I wouldn't count on any CD single releases :/ I don't think there were any past 21 Guns last time and even they were hard to come by I was easily able to get my hands on copies of 21CB and Last of the American Girls CD singles. EJN was a little difficult due to it being a weird single. I ended up finding a radio promo copy on eBay from the UK. I don't think there was an actual CD single released for it.
-Billiejoezee- Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I'm pretty sure Green Day have changed it up a lot since the time they played it in Texas. Especially with Rob around. Just watch it be a total different thing than what we heard from the audio recordings. I for one am SUPER STOKED to finally have some new Green Day to listen to, especially on the radio. I know the band won't let us down. They never do.
.Brian Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I wouldn't count on any CD single releases :/ I don't think there were any past 21 Guns last time and even they were hard to come by That would suck, especially for the lead single. I want to listen to the first new song in 3 years in lossless quality, on vinyl or at least cd. I won't pay for a shitty MP3.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Too many reaction gifs. I haven't heard it yet so not sure what to expect, but from people's opinions I've read, am I right in assuming this is more like something off Kerplunk than Insomniac? I just remember him saying last year how he'd love to play Kerplunk front to back at a gig sometime and imagining what it would sound like if they were to come up with new stuff that sounded like that. If that is what he means by "power pop" then I might absolutely love Uno, albeit in a different way to Dos which I'm almost certain will be my favourite of the three.

It's like neither Kerplunk nor Insomniac, but it's definitely closer to Kerplunk. Personally, musically I think it's something you'd find on AI, but also a new thing.

I know the band won't let us down. They never do. Never!!! And we shouldn't be so pessimistic about it, thinking that the song won't represent UNO. We know very little about the records, they haven't been fully explained yet. As for the song, we must hear the clear version first to make conclusions. The boys chose it for something...
tabbycat1596 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I knew it! I knew it! I felt like a single would be coming out this week! I'm sure Green Day will wow us, but I am kind of nervous about it, judging by some people's descriptions of it from the secret shows. But, of course, they probably could have changed it since the live shows. I'll just have to wait three weeks to hear it I guess!
QueenOfSuburbia Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I understand what you're saying and I thought that too but it's just a single. We''ll hear all those power songs anyway when uno gets released.Singles are just for Mtv and poser fans who don't listen to albums but just singles. This is exactly what I think.
petros Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 This is exactly what I think. Haha yeah. It's always cool to see music videos with singles that are actually really great but it's not that we won't get any faster songs as singles.
Android Jesus Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I don't really know what to expect, but I'm really excited! I'm really anxious, I haven't heard good opinions from my friends, but I trust GD won't disappoint me
Heather. Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I'm honestly surprised by all the negativity regarding Oh Love. It was my #1 pick and I thought the general impression of the song was positive. I think most people like it, they just maybe think it's the wrong approach for a first single... which I suppose is fair.

I think most people like it, they just maybe think it's the wrong approach for a first single... which I suppose is fair. This is my stance. I love the song and think it's great. It's an awesome ballad and is amazing to hear live. But the single that is the first of a brand new era and the general public's introduction to UDT? Wouldn't have been my first choice.
Ashley! Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Oh love is coming out two days after my wedding! I'm kinda surprised they chose it to be the first single, happy, but surprised.

But the single that is the first of a brand new era and the general public's introduction to UDT? Wouldn't have been my first choice. Maybe Oh Love IS representative of UDT... we don't really know yet... Yes, we've gotten super cool "new sound" vibes from the Uno and Dos trailers, but who's to say that's going to be the norm throughout? Maybe on Dos, which sounds like it'll be more foxtubby, but I think there's a good chance Oh Love really does represent Uno. Considering that their history of first choice singles always has been with powerful bold songs, they obviously feel this is the right way to go. Maybe they recognized that the public would feel jaded if they put out a first single as punchy as KYE or AI were. People would roll their eyes. A power ballad that's probably been vamped up a bit would prevent a lot of that, and also send a message that Green Day are NOT being political on this thing (much).
Mar Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Too many reaction gifs. Is such a thing possible? The idea of hearing a new GD song on the radio for the first time. I remember how exciting it was when a bunch of us fans listened to a million radio stations to hear Gaga's Born This Way for the first time because a bunch of radio stations said they were gonna play it first. I hope we have a similar experience
Brother Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Green Day's back. Btw, does anyone know how to post images on here? Much appreciated.

Until we have an actual copy of Uno in our grubby little hands, then no one can say for sure if it's representative or not. Personally, I like the song from what I've heard and I'm sure I'll like the studio version. I know I'll be buying the album regardless of how the single does
