i once thougth green day was at least a band who is reffering to their punk roots and carry the values of the movement in their hearts. but i hate them for changin to a teenie band that has fans like a boygroup. "oh come on, lets start a trend on twitter so the first commercial shit single reaches everyone of our stupid computer generation and gets played to death on the radio. so green day can be billionairs instead of millionairs. and soon, yes soon, it will only be ous 17 year old girls on concerts. and we can discuss their "new style" and what kind of eyeliner billy uses."

these are the things which are important to you associated with your favourite group?! once they were singing about fashion victims and now they became fashion victim themselfs. with a every album a new image. is there any honesty left, any barrier? broadway??? come on!

btw, im not one of the typical sell out shouters. its ok if they are succesfull. but not for any price.... this is not the band i once fell in love with. now your replies will be: "arent they allowed to develope?" my answer: sure they are if they dont betray themselfs. but how can they even sing about how bad capitalism is and now sell three albums in a row so they can even earn more money? you know what a real band would do: bring out a tripple album for the normal prize at once. you think thats crazy? the clash did it... this is such a marketing gag.

what a welcome posting, eh? sorry for beeing emotional. i loved this band, thats why the developement goign on since a few years just pisses me off.

Hold on a second, you're blaming Green Day for what their fans are like? How is it their fault if any of their fans want to start a trend on twitter though? They haven't personally come out yet tweeting "START IT TRENDING" Anyway, getting things trending on twitter or posting things on facebook now is the norm, it's the new news source for a lot of people. If even one new person discovers the wonders of Green Day's music through seeing a trend on twitter, then I think that's great.

Plus you mentioned "stupid computer generation". If it wasn't for the "stupid computer generation", this forum wouldn't exist and I (plus a LOT of other people here) wouldn't have met so many great people through this website. So is it really all that bad?

If Green Day aren't the band you once fell in love with, as you say, then that's all on you, not them. You can't expect them to cater to everyones personal taste, or do what their fans want them to do.

I think 3-4 weeks would be more likely. I don't want the video's editing process to be rushed

I agree, it shouldn't be rushed. But with the trilogy, I think Green Day will rush things. They'll have the best men to work on the video, obviously. Well, just a thought.

I appreciate what you're saying, but yeah, you can't blame the band for what their fans are like. They never told anybody to make them trend on Twitter or to discuss Billie's eyeliner - that's all with the fans themselves. If you're not okay with those fans you can always just ignore them. Also I don't think anyone has in mind things like "omg let's make them billionaires" or anything like that - it's just the modern culture where something like trending on Twitter is a cool thing to do. I'm not the biggest fan of social media and whatnot but that's just how things are these days.

The price of the albums probably isn't the band's decision either. Sadly the record company will be trying to squeeze as much money out of this as possible, even if the band object to it. It does seem like they're ditching all that eyeliner and new image stuff and just acting like normal guys again, if that makes you feel any better.

They've done things that pissed the hell out of me too. But it's possible to just ignore them and remember the Green Day you loved.

Nope. iTunes/digital download release is actually the 17th. It'll be up at midnight though, so 9 hours of a wait for Central Europe :)

I still don't get it, timezones will always confuse me. So we have to wait till 9am on the 17th to download it? (This is kinda important to me since I won't have internet access at home next week, so I have to download it while I'm in class)

How can you say they betray themselves? You don't know them personally, so what exactly gives you the right to claim such things? You say they have every right to evolve, sure they do. Once they were the guys in their mid twenties who sang about fashion victims, now they're 40, of course they changed and so did their attitude, their way to see things and their opinions too. It's a completely normal proccess... nobody sticks to the exact same ideals and opinions for their entire life. And like Maria Gloria said, all those discussions about their image and their look are only initiated by some of their fans, not by the band themselves.

Also, of couse we don't know anything about this, but I think the band doesn't even have that much influence on all the marketing stuff. I'd say it was probably Warner's idea to release three albums instead of one triple album and Green Day just wanted to see all their songs released, so either they had to go with it or they'd just have one album. This might sound a bit naive, but it seems likely to me.

Just one thing to say. You should go check yourself  They aren't fashion victims, I am one myself and I can tell you right now they aren't. At all. Plus, you're understanding nothing! They have a new style because they stopped eyeliner and all that and now wear normal, casual clothes! But if you really think what they wear now is the latest fashion, you should go to stores more often.

Well, you really don't understand anything. Everything you say is the typical tantrum of old-school punks who can't stand the idea that they are not in the 90's anymore.

First of all, as so many people has told you, they have nothing to do with what fans they have, if they promote the band on twitter or if they go crazy about their makeup or they clothes. They make music, and if they create that effect on so many people, it has nothing to do with them. Besides, it's curious how they have thrown away all that make-up, uniforms thing with these new records and still people is talking about their looks and all that stuff. Wether you like it or not, those kind of superficial judgements are really common nowadays, with lots of bands, no matter their genre.

You also say that they betrayed themselves saying how bad is capitaism while living in a capitalist world. Well, first of all, they don't criticize it that way. They criticize the BAD THINGS about the system, not the whole system. Plus, maybe you weren't taught this at school, but even your beloved punk bands, live IN the system. Even though they don't appear on the media, even though they don't work with a big company...it is not that easy to get out of the system, specially when you are doing music. All these bands who pretend to be the greatest rebels of the world, still do concerts and sell tickets, and give money to the owner of the place where they play and...that means to be collaborating with the system. Annoying, isn't it? Unless you go and live in the forest, eating food from trees or anymals, wearing nothing and living on your own, you CAN'T get out of the system. It's sad, but it's true. So, the best way to do things is trying to change the system from the INSIDE. And that's pretty much what Green Day and other bands are doing. Maybe all this is not really easy to understand, but I have studied it and, believe me, thigs are this way.

Also, you say that the band is preparing these 3 records to make three times more money...Obviously you don't understand a thing. Green Day has such a high status that they could release the 3 albums for free and still be rich. So I don't think they do this for money, they are simply being creative, which is really good for a band, be it punk, pop or rock. Furthermore, you claim that The Clash released 3 albums by the price of one. Well, times have changed, the industry has changed, and even if the wanted, I don't think GD has the power to decide that. They were lucky that the company didn't say anything against their plans even though it wasn't sure about the idea of releasing 3 albums.

To finish with this, I will say that it's pretty funny that you criticize the "computer generation"...using a computer.

I hope you learned something from my comment, but considering your completely mistaken ideas about the world, I don't think you will.

To this, I'd also add that they don't earn three times more money. Each album is cheaper than a regular album.

Also, according to the company, these 3 albums count as one for them, so they don't get any kind of contractual profit or anything like that. It's just simply ambition and passion for music.

yeah agree...also Billie said that he just wrote so many songs that he thought about releasing two albums, but then it got more and more songs and two albums wouldn't have been enough, so they all decided to release three albums --> it's not for money but simply cos they had a lot of songs that they wanted to share...

...and they also release 36 songs which makes 12 songs per album, i'd say that it's a lot and it definately doesn't look like just trying to make money, otherwise they'd just have about 9 or 10 songs on the album...that'd be trying to make money :)

People who complain about Green Day doing it all just for the money to make millions and millions of dollars are the big hypocrites themselves, I would bet. As if they would rather tour the world for free and hand out their music for free and live on fucking food coupons or whatever than to earn honest money with hard work and passion. if you are so fucking jealous then go and become a famous bastard yourself and show us how it should be done.

Its hard to tell. The 21st cb singles were hard to come by, Latog and 21 guns are about $20 on amazon right now, and the most recent single, When Its Time, was only digital. And if we get the usual 5 singles per album, that might be too many physical things to make in 4 months, but if they're counting the entire trelogy as one album and we get 5 for all three, then it might be possible that we do. Only time will tell.

I don't think we heard anything about that. I'm still wondering about that myself. =/:confused:
