I have a question for anyone who listened to the live recording of Oh Love!

This guitar solo thing that's in this new trailer - was it in the live version from last year? Or did they change a different solo in the song? Or is it completely new?

The solo is in the live version, it is very similar with only slight differences.

The artwork is artwork. It's not the best in my opinion, but it goes with the themes of the album covers nicely so it's alright.

Dat trailer, though. That was awesome.

Thank you!

I was hoping the song wouldn't be changed too much. I loved the original (at least the first half that I've heard). Yay. :)

The artwork is really cool and the energy is refreshing, but personally, I'm kind of not looking forward to this song being a single...let alone the first single. I don't think that this will be the song that brings the band back into the mainstream. People generally won't hear this and think that they're back in a good way, they'll think that they're still "trying too hard" like in 21CB.

I'm sorry, this is going to be an extremely unpopular opinion. I'm still looking forward to this, obviously, it's new Green Day. I'll probably love it when it comes out. But I still don't think that for this band to make money (because, come on, this is their job after all), this song won't be very nice to them on the airwaves. :(

I'm hoping they prove me wrong.

Question: Why do we care what other people think of Green Day?

Also, fact is, rock music just ain't popular atm. So if Green Day wants to dominate the airwaves, Billie's gonna have to call up Lady Gaga and arrange a duet....

Because we want to see our favorite band doing well. It doesn't matter what every single person thinks of them, but it really sucks if you see a large number of people heavily criticizing or otherwise shit-talking them.

Green Day is obviously being really ambitious lately, and it would break my heart a little if the albums were poorly reviewed or if the singles didn't do well. It doesn't affect what I think of them, but it's nice to see others appreciating them.

I get what uhleckseee is saying. I haven't heard the clip from Oh Love yet because I want to wait until the full song comes out next week, but I'm going to stay a bit cautious before getting crazily excited.

The artwork surprised me a little bit, but it definitely goes with the theme of the trilogy albums. The song itself sounds powerful, and it's nice to finally have something clear and audible other than the live recording. The snippet they gave us kind of sounds like it may be part of a solo or the bridge, but I could be wrong. Also, when the song is "posted" on Monday at 9am, will it also be available on iTunes at that time? I want my hands on it!

the artwork looks like it could work for STOP WHEN THE RED LIGHTS FLASH

anyone else think that ? ...... no ?

aww well :(

To be true, that was the first thing I thought of.

traffic lights --->stop when the red lights flash. :) Well, except the fact that the red light on the cover is pink. xD

And - your new av rocks! That animated stoplight is spot-on!

Oh, thank you!

The snippet in the song trailer sounds like such a classically good rock song that I almost can't imagine it on pop radio right now... rock music is just truly and completely irrelevant at the mo'. I'm not saying Green Day can't bring it back, they've done that before, but there's virtually no rock on top 40 right now, and usually there's a little more going on...

Hopefully people feel like being refreshed!

And what bands are popular now? There are no bands on the radio. It's all solo female artists. Disposable garbage is what tops the Hot 100. The song 'Call Me Maybe' is a prime example. There are maybe two or three popular rock bands left standing, and Green Day is one of them. The phrase ‘Last Gang in Town’ takes on a whole another meaning when you think about it in this context. I really don’t care whether pop radio embraces the song or not, but being one of last big rock bands in the world works in Green Day’s favor.

I'm hoping that Green Day can bring back some rock into the music. R&B, rap and Jay Z's lips have headlined the charts for way too long dammit

That's awesome! Hopefully it doesnt sound anything like the snippet I heard the other day.

I'd like to see Green Day do well too. But I don't need them to be the Biggest Band in the World at all times either. It's not a realistic expectation *especially* in the current music climate.

21CB got decent (and in some cases, glowing) reviews when it first came out, debuted at number 1 on the Billboard charts, and managed to spawn one legitimate hit single and one moderately received one. Plus their tours still sold like hotcakes. Sure the overall sales numbers weren't that great, and all of it certainly paled in comparison to the success of American Idiot, but anyone who thought they were going to pull that off twice in a row was kidding themselves :P

The entertainment business is a complete and utter crapshoot for the most part, and how well you do often has at least 50% to do with timing and pure dumb luck. If there was some golden formula that guaranteed success, the labels and agents would be following it to the letter...but there isn't one ( though Lord knows they've tried to figure it out for decades). This is why labels often operate in terms of "minimum risk" since there's no such thing as a no-risk artist or recording. Anything and everything, no matter how well-planned and constructed, has the potential to fail miserably.

This is why I say let the labels execs and agents and PR peeps worry about why 21CB "didn't work" and what needs to happen to make the trilogy a hit; that's their job. Our job, as fans, is to sit back and enjoy the music :toocool:

Rock music isn't totally irrelevant now. In the last year it's kind of, slowly been coming back. Like Foster The People's "Pumped Up Kicks" and Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" - they're kind of rock-ish. Certainly more than most popular music in the last couple years. Even Adele's songs have a rock influence. I think rock music is making a comeback, it's just kind of getting a slow start. It just seems that people are a little less interested in super pop songs like from Lady Gaga and are starting to have more interest in more raw sounding music.

I hope Green Day will push it over the edge to a real popular interest in rock again. If any band can, Green Day's it.

Plus, even 3 years ago when Lady Gaga was EVERYWHERE (it was king of annoying, like I couldn't escape her, haha), Green Day still got a hit single out of 21 Guns. So it's possible despite the less-than-ideal musical climate.

I did notice that lady gaga kind of is starting to wear out. But she's really getting way over the top. I mean, it's ok to make a statement but I can't help but feel that she keeps screaming louder for attention.

I do think there's a good opportunity in the music business for Green Day at the moment. I don't think they will get a big hit with Oh Love, but it certainly will start to grab people's attention I think. If these 3 albums will do well I think they will slowly bring back some decent rock into the public. But it's really hard to predict if it's going to be a big hit or not. Sometimes you can somehow sense it in a way. And I got a good feeling about this. Maybe not an American Idiot kind of hype, but certainly better than 21CB.

wasn't 21 guns their second single on the last album? Maybe Green Day's next single will be their biggest this time again xD

That's true! And Boulevard of Broken Dreams was the 2nd single for AI. So that does look promising :D

But I am not sure if they will follow the same path with the singles this time. But with so many new songs, there still a good chance they will have a single that will make people's minds blow up and make Jay Z turn white (maybe that one was a bit too much..)

Yep - KYE was the first. Interesting the pattern -- for American Idiot, the title track was the lead-off single, and BOBD - the most successful single - was released second. American Idiot (the title track, not the album) itself was a stylistic departure from earlier Green Day and took some getting used to as well, if I remember correctly. It'd be interesting to see the pattern repeat itself here...that is, lead off with a song that makes a statement about what the band is bringing to the table overall this time, even if that's not going to be the most successful single of the trilogy; then follow up with something that just blows people's minds. Perhaps Stay The Night or Let Yourself Go will have that honor for iUno! if that's the direction they're going to take this.

I'm confused

GD.com will premiere Oh Love at 2pm, UK time. But will we still be able to buy it on iTunes that morning? Because I thought that was when the actual sinle came out?

Sorry if that makes no sense haha

All I heard was that it will start getting airplay on the 16th so i'm not sure if you'll be able to get it from iTunes then. I think all there is to do is just wait and see...

You got me so excited! Green Day can get rock music back into the spotlight. That's so awesome.
