Edwood Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I think the vocal melody for the chorus of 'Oh Love' sounds very similar to the chorus of 'Jolene' by Dolly Parton/The white stripes Both choruses have a rising build to them. However, 'Oh Love' is in a major key, whereas 'Jolene' is in a minor key.
WalkingContradictionPL Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I thought every single had a video No, "She" was a single but it didn't have a video.
DannyDirnt Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 No, "She" was a single but it didn't have a video. Crap, I love "She". Still, nice to know it was a single.
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Is this single gonna have a video? I'm sure it will. Lead singles pretty much always have videos. Otherwise it probably wouldn't be a very effective single - they never seem to do well without videos, even without MTV actually playing anything music-related anymore.
farley drexel hatcher Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I don't think She was a single, not an official one. Neither was Welcome To Paradise. The label might have released them, but the band wasn't on board with it, hence there being no real videos.
Gwen Stacy Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Anybody else anxious to see what the artwork for the single looks like? I really want to see what kind of direction the art will take beyond the actual album art.
Sixtrix Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Anybody else anxious to see what the artwork for the single looks like? I really want to see what kind of direction the art will take beyond the actual album art. Same here. It's really interesting to see how the artwork for the singles are going to turn out to be. How they will maybe relate to Uno, Dos or Tre. Maybe the Dos singles will have similar green backgrounds but different pictures or images on it. Same for Dos and Tre. I'm really curious to find out. Also, within a week or 2 weeks we will finally get to hear some vocals!
Karol Oliveira Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Anybody else anxious to see what the artwork for the single looks like? I really want to see what kind of direction the art will take beyond the actual album art. I bet the artwork for the single will feature Jason White's face!
Edwood Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 "Welcome to Paradise' was an official CD single. There was a live video for 'Welcome to Paradise.' 'She' was not a single. Reprise, however, did want to put it out as a single. The band decided against it, though, because they thought they had sold enough records with Dookie at that point, and didn't want to milk the cash cow any further.
Martyn Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Normally Ireland/Europe gets digital releases of singles the Friday beforehand, unfortunately Warner Ireland confirmed to me earlier that this won't happen. So worldwide digital release = 16th July apparently. I wonder how this is going to work....New releases on iTunes go live at midnight in each timezone. If it was released 16th July then it'd be up on iTunes before whatever radio station has the exclusive "first play". Or maybe the digital release will actually be the 17th...if so: They might have to do the first US play before it hits midnight/july 17th in australia/etc...unless it gets released later there or something.... not very clear, suppose it's just a matter of time though!
Ritz Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 We have been getting news every Thrusday for last 3 weeks. This thrusday could bring a snippet of the single. Let's wait and watch.

Satan Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Hello guys, sorry if this has been discussed already, but I haven't heard the secret show recording(s) of Oh Love, and I don't plan on listening to them either. So, to anyone who's heard it before: Does it sound like a good single? Like, chart topping? Better than Know Your Enemy? Thanks
Ritz Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Hello guys, sorry if this has been discussed already, but I haven't heard the secret show recording(s) of Oh Love, and I don't plan on listening to them either. So, to anyone who's hear it before: Does it sound like a good single? Like, chart topping? Better than Know Your Enemy? Thanks Same here. I haven't heard it and I'm not planning to listen to it too before the release. Thatll just ruin the surprise. But as far as I've read the discussions, oh love wasn't expected to be the single. Cos everyone's surprised But oh well, it'll be a good single cos its Green Day.
Alan86 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I don't see this song topping the charts and if it does get to the top of the rock charts it won't be for very long. Of course I could be wrong cause we don't know how the studio version sounds.
Heather. Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 It's infinitely better than Know Your Enemy. It's not repetitive and a bit grandiose. I can't pretend to believe it'll "top the charts" (BOBD only ever reached #2, amirite? has green day EVER had a song that genuinely topped mainstream top 40?), but I do believe it will do well, on rock and mainstream. personally, i believe they chose this song because it IS something everyone can get on board with, not just Green Day fans. (or maybe, ironically, everyone EXCEPT Green Day fans, a la Good Riddance or something).
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I always thought Oh Love would be a wonderful single. It's beautiful and really builds up to the chorus, and it just sticks in your head. I've only listened to it a few times, but I'm always singing it or just find it playing in my head. It's catchy, but in a different way from a lot of Green Day songs. It has an epic feel to it, but it's still... fun. Not too serious. I didn't expect it to be a lead single (that's a bit of a surprise), but it's definitely better than Know Your Enemy. Oh Love will excite people in a way that (I think) KYE didn't. It's different from their usual fast first single, and in a way that will make people want to listen to it. I'm not sure it's the kind of song that will top charts, at least not right away. I think it will take a little time to work its way up the charts, kind of like how it slowly builds within the song itself.
petros Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Who cares if it tops the charts?Have you seen what songs top the charts these days?I couldn't care less cause the mainstream music sucks anyways.

Edwood Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 This song will be a hit. It has the same type of rising chorus as 'Basket Case.' Moreover, the song also has the same type of mid-tempo strut as 'When I Come Around', which was another huge hit for Green Day. The chorus for ‘Oh Love’ is better than either of the choruses for ‘Minority’ or ‘Know Your Enemy’—two songs that topped the modern rock chart. ‘Oh Love’ has all the makings of a potential crossover hit, as it is the perfect amalgamation of rock, country, and pop. In short, 'Oh Love' is basically 'When I Come Around' with a huge chorus. It's just too bad that people have only heard the low quality live version of 'Oh Love' with people talking over the band, which ultimately lessens the song's energy. In fact, as a result of the low quality recording, even the older songs at the Red 7 show lack their usual zest.
basKT_case90 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 For those who want to hear a better quality snippet of "Oh Love", check out this video from the Webster Hall secret show. It's still only a camera recording, but it sounds a lot better than the other recording from outside Red 7. Hopefully it gives you a better taste of the energy of the song without being ruined by all the chatter from the crowd. [media=]
