PasalacquaBomb Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Finally! I must say, I haven't listened to "Oh Love" yet as I don't want to hear any song before its release, but I think it will do great as a single. Green Day has always had a great sense for 1st singles. See 21CB: KYE definitely wasn't the greatest song on there but it was a song that stuck in your head. And later, when they released 21 Guns they had their massive success. So, let's see what the single brings us, hopefully we'll get one or two b-sides, otherwise I will not buy the CD and just download it from iTunes.
Sixtrix Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Any possiblity it has Stray Heart as a B-side? Or what about a live recording of one of the other songs on Uno, recorded at one of the secret shows?
Mary711 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Sorry if this has already benn asked: How long in advance do they release the artwork/cover for singles? Yeah, I would like to know that, too. Actually there's not much time left if they want to release it in advance to the single itself.
farley drexel hatcher Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 ... And we're back to Stray Heart again. No one knows if there will be b sides, let alone what the b sides will be. We currently don't know anything other than the name of the song and the day it's coming out. The incessant need to rehash old topics or continue to try and make conversation about something we know nothing about is making it really hard to know what thread I'm even on anymore. Every thread related to the new albums is the same.
Tubbie Head Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Any possiblity it has Stray Heart as a B-side? but why are you excluding it from being on Dos or Tre? I was hoping it was that song too 'cause I like it a lot But who knows, maybe it will be released. We don't know the actual title of it anyway, perhaps it's something different to "Oh Girl". True! let's hope for that =)
alienlifeform Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 sorry if i was misunderstood...i just traslate an expression used here in brazil..but looks like it mean a differente thing for you... i just tried to say that usually a single music still being played on the radio for more than only 2 months... like 3 or something...this way the next single should be released right before DOS come out and of couse i know that singles come for the cds ok.. i'm not an idiot
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 What's that "Oh Girl" song people were talking about? Oh Girl is a song that Green Day played at a soundcheck before their concert a couple years ago. It was on June 16, 2010 in Manchester. They played it and Dreamcatcher, and they played Stay The Night around this time too. I'm pretty sure both "Oh Girl" and "Dreamcatcher" are titles we made up, but we don't know what they're actually called. I really love Oh Girl, and I hope it makes it onto one of the albums! I was thinking it might be the song "See You Tonight" from the Uno trailer.... but I don't know. I just really hope they release a studio version of it. It's so beautiful Here's a video of Oh Girl - [media=]
miamiredhawk827 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I think this was a good selection for the first single... They usually save the most "pop" or radio friendly song for the second single... Such as 21 Guns, BoBD, Warning, Good Riddance, and Welcome to Paradise... These are all gonna be really good songs... And I think you'll most likely find the singles on alternative rock stations and not on pop stations...

Funny random thing, the Irish rock radio station played the "It's Fuck Time" snippet from the Dos trailer a few times the other day, talking about how they are loving the sound Green Day are going for and cannot wait for the release. I just thought to myself "if only they knew the name of this song, don't think they would be playing it at 3pm"
Bastard of 1967 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I want the other people to say "Wow, Green Day comes back with a BANG!" by releasing a power-up song like Nuclear Family, Let Yourself Go or Stay The Night. Oh Love might be a good song (not a huge fan of the LQ version so far), but I can't imagine it working as a lead single. Given how well "the Exhaustion Song of the 21st Century Breakdown" -- that is, 21 Guns -- went over, I think it's clear that today's Green Day is capable of making an impact even without going right to a hard-core arena shaker. While I think there are many different reasons for 21 Guns being that album's most successful single the most significant one being: the rest of 'em sucked donkeys! ermmmm, were not chosen wisely, songs like 21 Guns, WMUWSE, and Good Riddance all indicate that the band doesn't need to lead off with, say, Let Yourself Go or Fuck Time in order to get that "we're back and we're different this time" message across. The more I think about it, taking a softer, less "in your face" approach that lets the music speak for itself really does have some appeal.
Alan86 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 "Let yourself go" will never be a single. The lyrics are too explicit for modern radio/TV and the quality of the song is completely dependant on those lyrics. I'm hoping for Nuclear Family next.
Sarcasm Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I've never bought any CD singles, but this time, I'll get them all. I want the b-sides, the bonus live tracks and everything. I'm just psyched it's actually something NEW!
WorryRock02 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 i'd love to hear a new version ( maybe a studio version9 of stray heart...but c'mon! we'll got the first single in only two week <3and of course also Dreamcatcher was so amazing
Heather. Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I just felt like editorializing for a hot second here... I'm so excited for this single, any single, because I just remembered what got me into Green Day in the first place---singles. I heard American Idiot on the radio, then I heard Holiday and BOBD (in whatever order), and I was like "Holy shit, I need to check out the rest of this album!" so I bought American Idiot, and that's what led me to steal my older brother's Dookie and Insomniac CDs, etc. etc. And to think that these upcoming songs and SINGLES could lead to that kind of musical exploration and discovery for so many other ignorant masses fills me with great joy. It's like, I am so happy for all the people out there (kids) who have no idea what they're missing out on, but maybe they'll be able to find out. So it's not even like I want this single to "do well" and send Green Day back to astronomical popularity. It's just the thought that "Oh Love" and whatever follows is going to grab different people and give them a once-in-a-lifetime thrill of discovering Green Day. We've already found Green Day here, and it's great, but nothing beats a new, passionate relationship with a band. I'm happy for all you unknowing lucky bastards out there who don't realize you're about to get swept into the fold!
sampy Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 When we can expect a little snippet of this single? I really don't remember when the preview clips were released in iTunes/Amazon like for AAF songs. But music video for KYE was released 8 days after the single came out.

I'm happy for all you unknowing lucky bastards out there who don't realize you're about to get swept into the fold! Well said! I also remember first seeing the American Idiot video on tv and being obsessed with it. But I wasn't completely hooked until Boulevard Of Broken Dreams - that song (and video) was just so incredible to me, unlike anything I'd ever heard before. It wasn't until after Holiday (my favorite video from the era) came out that I got the CD. Within a year I'd collected all their music and was the fan I am now. I can't imagine how empty my life would be had I not discovered Green Day thanks to the excellent singles that came from American Idiot. I hope more people like me and you (and everyone else here) will discover the great music they've been missing. More Green Day fans to share this forum with
Alan86 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I think the vocal melody for the chorus of 'Oh Love' sounds very similar to the chorus of 'Jolene' by Dolly Parton/The white stripes

Mary711 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Hubby asked me how there can be B sides on a CD? Sweet.
