i've listened to it once today, i just had to, cos i have completely forgotten how it sounds and just had to know it vaguely...but the quality of the recording was shitty and i'm sure it's also changed since we last heard it, so i think it doesn't really matter whether i listened to it now or maybe even listen to it another hundred times or not

The song title makes me think of Real Love by John Lennon

delicate and pretty

Not sure that's a great way to kick off a Trilogy Era though, but we'll see

I have not heard any live versions of this song and I intend not to!

I almost fell and listened to Oh Love. Then I made up my mind and decided not to. I wish there had been no secret shows, they are only big spoilers!

I enjoy hearing how the music evolves through their whole creative process. Even though I've heard the bootleg I'll still be surprised (and likely amazed) by what ultimately gets put on the album. I guess it's kinda like beta-testing software for somebody. In our case, as the hard-core fans we're the testers. :)

I'm a hard-core fan? yay! But I don't wanna know how songs sound, I wanna have a totally brand new sound in the songs, something I had never heard. They can change a lot, but after all they'll be basically the same.

You say potatoe, I'll say potahto, and we'll leave it at that. :)

Fuck it, I'm bored. I'm going to watch that video even if it ruins the surprise... :ninja:

Too late now!!!

It sounds good, even on the crappy recording!

And it's definitely not as slow as I thought it would be.

It's not a slow song, I don't know where this propaganda is coming from. Sure, it's no Platypus, not even Holiday, but it's a far cry from 21 Guns.

I'm fine with Oh Love as the first single. In fact, the only reason why I wanted a faster, punchier song as the first single was to hit all those haters that don't stop criticizing Green Day in the face ("they sold out", "they are a bad band now"...bullshit). But that kind of people are gonna criticize them no matter what they do, so...fuck them. Let's enjoy Oh Love.

I hope the video doesn't have people acting out the lyrics because that would be cringeworthy

But I don't know how else they'd do a video for this song ...

I know this a bit far out but maybe Billie could act out the lyrics?

I mean, I’m not saying Tre should play drums in it or anything that radical, but Billie could definitely sing. I don’t think that would be too weird....

Or no one singing. In Walking Contradiction, for example, no one sang. If I'm not wrong.

You guys are too much focused on the lyrics. Thre are endless possibilities for the video.

Those who listened to the song probably already know the song builds up marvelously. They could start the video with just Billie playing guitar and singing, showing him in his delicate form just like the way the song opens. And then when the chorus bursts loose the rest of the band is lit up from the dark background or something like that.

Just based on the arrangement of the song and the melody you can come up with way more ideas than when you only focus on the lyrics.

The lyrics might not even be what we think they are, or they could have changed.

Actually in most cases music videos just borrow a general idea of lyrics (and sometimes even not), and video itself usually bases on music, cause it gives much more powerful impression. And yes, melody gives much more opportunity to create something cool than lyrics. Lyrics are not the script. And video clip is not a movie. So they are free to do whatever they want. =)

In the case where they get ideas or inspiration it is mostly from of the theme of the lyrics instead of the actual lyrics. Unless the video literally translates the lyrics. But I don't think that is done very iften(?)

But yes I have to agree with what you said. But I noticed that u forgot to mention that focussing on the melody is another option instead of the only option or better option. My bad :P

All these options are getting complicated to me  But guess we understood each other

You are right. We should just wait and see what they will come up with. But if they base the video on the lyrics it will most definitely be something beautiful. And that makes me very curious to what they will decide to do.
