From what I heard its a real crowd sing along song. Now I only listened to it once last year just to get the idea but I wanna see how it sounds properly mixed before I judge it

I was actually completely convinced that Stay the Night would be the first single, so I was quite surprised when I saw this. But I really couldn't be happier, and I can't wait for July 16th. I'm just hoping that it will end up being a better single choice than Know Your Enemy.

Havent heard this song yet, but i know it will be brilliant! :D

I was expecting Carpe Diem to be the first single and I'm happy that it's not, because it has the same vibe that American Idiot and Know your enemy, and that gives people the idea that Green Day make the same songs over and over again, when it's not like that. Also, Oh Love doesn't look like a soft song for the masses like Wake me up when September ends or 21 guns. So it might be a good choice, although it's not one of my favourites (I didn't listen to all the songs from the secret shows though). Let's see how the studio version works. I'm hoping for Stay the Night to be the second single! :)

This is a really big surprise, I didn't expect Oh Love to become a single! So now I'm really really curious to hear what they did with it... This is so good with a live record, I can't imagine with a studio one! And I'll finally read the actual lyrics and stop singing asdfghjklò

Yes, it will be on Uno! :)

Haha, thank you, Captain Obvious!

Maybe i understand little in the record industry, I just asked if it will be released on CD as a single?

Im just looking forward to having them back on tv etc...always get a little excited when i flick and they're on...even if *mumbles* i don't like the song *cough*.

Someone said this would be like releasing LNOE as a single---NO. Oh Love has an enormous build up and is more stadium rock than ballad. THAT'S why it will make a good single.

As for the "Doesn't Billie hate power ballads?" (Which Oh Love basically is)... I think he said that in the context of as a kid he hated power ballads which is why he sought out different types of music. He used to hate a lot of the things he now uses in his music :)

i had this litte hope that the firs single was some song that we didn't have listened on the secret shows... anyways...there's a lot of people who didn't listen it yet..

though i'd like this song a lot..it will be awesome

Until now, I've only told you guys my personal opinion about "Oh Love", because I admire what I've heard of it so far. But apart from that, I think this song is a perfect choice as a first single. I think it's not up for discussion that it's a better single than "Know Your Enemy" probably was, as a lot of you guys already said. I also think that "Oh Love" seems like a perfect crossover between the "typical" and the completely new Green Day sound. It does sound a lot different than 21st Century Breakdown songs, still it's not a complete change in the sense of "Kill The DJ". It seems like the perfect balance, the perfect sort of "bridge". The next single's probably the one that will let everyone think: "Wow. This is Green Day? They've never sounded like this before." For now, I really can't wait for "Oh Love" to be released.

I don't think "Oh, Love" is the best song based on what we've heard so far, but at least is catchy!

I went to sleep last night with "Oh, love" in my head; I woke up with "Oh, love" and it is my head until now!!

All the news is melting my brain (and making it smell like a volcano, of course)! :D

Oh Love was one of my absolute favorite songs we heard out of the recorded live ones. Probably just second to Nuclear Family. I have listened to that crappy recording so much you guys, omg. I think it's absolutely gorgeous and can't wait to hear it in all it's full glory. It is a slightly surprising first single choice (though I hadn't really given it any previous thought) but you guys, I assume there will be another single in August or September, right before Uno comes out to get everyone excited and more hyped and I'm sure that one will be a blazer so chill. Oh Love is awesome and stunning and gorgeous and just the beginning of what's to come.

Here is an incredibly bad and incorrect write up of the lyrics I did! If anyone wants to add their thoughts, lyrics/fix it up a bit, feel free! :) Obviously the lyrics might change for the final version though. Oh and the stuff in brackets is other possibilities. (I know, a lot of the lyrics are incorrect!!)

Oh love

Oh love

Wont you lay down here tonight (next to me?)

Oh light,

Oh life (light?)

Reach out past the night?

No sun??

No sun??

No sun wont LA such?!?! (lol, obvs wrong)

Oh light

Divine (delight?)

Wont you say before(because?) you knew(lose?)?!?!

Far away, far away, run(far?) away tonight

I'm wearing my heart for you (How weary, my heart for you?)

Far away, far away, run(far?) away tonight

Tonight my heart's for you (?)

Oh Light

and then some(dancing?)?!

Wont you start before you die?!

Oh losing?

and moving?!

Wont you see the light of ?!?! (day?)

Oh laughter

Oh daughter (laughter?!)?

wont you start before you came?!

Oh darling

Oh(no?) darling

Wont you see the light of day

Far away, far away, run(far?) away tonight

I'm wearing my heart for you (How weary, my heart for you?)

Far away, far away, run(far?) away tonight

Tonight my heart's for you

It was all (because?)...alone

It was(will?) all (?)....alone tonight?!

It was all because tomorrow tonight?!

It will all because?!..tonight

(2, 3, go)

Oh love

Oh love

Wont you lay down here tonight

Oh light

Divine (delight?)

Wont you stay(say?) before you knew (lose?)

Far away, far away, run(far?) away tonight

I'm wearing my heart for you?

Far away, Far away, run away tonight

Tonight my heart's for you

Far away, far away, far away, tonight

Tonight my heart's for you

Far away, far away, run away tonight

Tonight my heart's for you

Tonight my heart's for you

Tonight my heart's for you

You know I was thinking about this. The release of this single will be more than two months before the album comes out, so I would assume it's very probable that by the time ¡Uno! comes out it will have died out a bit... so my first thought was that it is too soon for a first single yet. But thenI thought, maybe they'll be releasing a second single around the time ¡Uno! comes out, and then the third single, maybe a month of so after ¡Uno!, will be from ¡Dos!... I mean is a trilogy, I have no idea how they'll work thinkgs out. So I'll just trust them and think that a release of the first single two months prior to the release of the album is a wise idea for some reason.

PS: You should put the lyrics of the song on a spoiler... I've kept away from recording/lyrics of the new stuff, and had to basically half close my eyes while scrolling down :P And there's probably more people who don't want to spoil the surprise for themselves either.

I really do think there will be a more "pump-ass" single released right before the album comes out. I think Oh Love is set to be a single because it's different than what people were expecting to hear first so it'll grab people's attention who normally push Green Day to the side.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, people expect to hear something fast and exciting for a first single from Green Day, I guess Green Day decided against that this time and decided to go a different direction. They want people to know these albums are going to be unlike anything they have ever done before, and coming out with an unexpected single such as Oh Love proves that to the public even more.

I'm probably wrong, but just my two cents. :P

I kinda hear it like this, but it's really hard to tell:

Far away, far away is the place tonight

I'm wearing my heart on the go

Far away, far away is the place tonight

Tonight, my heart's all yours

Oh, God, use spoilers! Not for me, because I'm Spanish and I won't understand anything when I listen to it, but for people who does.

well, the lyrics are too cliche

Oh, God, use spoilers!

I am pretty sure the "Far away! Far away!" is true.

:)

Not as bad as Carpe Diem :P

To me it's a breath of fresh air after the decidedly NOT cliche lyrics on the last album. 21CB had such intense lyrics that sometimes you really didn't know what he was talking about, and that's what made those songs harder to relate to. I think there's definitely a middle ground in songwriting (I feel like the lyrics to "Amy" are simple but poetic), and Oh Love probably errs more on the side of "Anyone could have written these words,", but sometimes silly love songs are a good break for a Green Day fan.

I get what you mean and that's pretty much how think about that 'issue', too. When I look back on some songs on 39/Smooth, Nimrod or Warning, Billie Joe sometimes wrote simplistic lyrics and it was still an awesome song, you know...

I prefer simple songs. I like them better because they are far more relatable and I don't really like that many cheesy songs on an album. I don't usually like cheesy stuff.
