Edwood Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Some people are only being negative about the single choice because it is a mid-tempo song. In the Green Day fan world, fast tempos are synonymous with good songs. This logic is deeply flawed, and most likely is rooted in the belief that Green Day should only be associated with fast paced punk music. ‘Oh Love’ and ‘Stay The Night’ were always the most likely single choices, as both songs have big melodic choruses. Having said that, I thought ‘Stay The Night’ would have been the first single and the band would save ‘Oh Love’ for later. Taking this order of events into consideration, ‘Stay The Night’ appears to be the most likely candidate for Uno’s second single. It will be interesting, however, to see what songs the band decides to release as singles for Dos and Tre.
Ritz Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I'm still in awe with the news last night ! Its so awesome ! and Billie tweeted thus, made my day ! Love mike with the hat

Raven93 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Honest opinion ..... I was expecting Let Yourself Go to be the First single. But I can work with Oh Love being the first Let's think outside the box here - the first single has too make a good impression on people in order for them to like what they here and get UNO . It worked with American idiot for American idiot and know your enemy for 21st century breakdown. I have no doubt in my mind that Oh Love will make a good impression on people

Heather. Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Someone mentioned how singles are usually released to radio a bit before they go on sale, so people know what they're buying and it builds hype. What are the chances this song is 'leaked' (intentionally I suppose) before the 16th? Is there a common history of that? I know we had KYE early, right, but that was because the band putting it out there? Not that the 16th wasn't shockingly early enough
Sixtrix Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 With American Idiot (single) and Know Your Enemy they released short snippets of the song on the official website before they were officially released as a single and the video of it was released. So here's me hoping for a short snippet very soon

Not that the 16th wasn't shockingly early enough I'm sure a streaming premiere will be available somewhere at least a week before the release date. If not, a leak is almost inevitable either way.

Zelda Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 AKSHDKAHDFSKH FINALLY. I was secretly hoping for Stay the Night, but honestly, as long as it's new Green Day, idgaf.
BJA TC MD Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Only 20 days away I wonder if there will be any b sides and whether we see a single cover beforehand
DannyDirnt Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I'm excited. Very excited. I'm getting a Green Day single in 20 days. I haven't listened to Oh Love, but I only wonder if it's solid enough to give the trilogy a good start.
solongfromthestars Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I'm thinking now that as a polished studio version this song will be a great one to show more casual fans the new sound and get them to listen to the rest, it's the kind of thing people want to hear at this time of year. I can't wait to hear what it actually sounds like. Oh love is coming out two days after my wedding! That's kind of awesome
pisquano Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I can't understand all this hatred for this song. I personally like it, more than Carpe Diem (that sounds a bit recycled) or other songs that will make the record. But apart from liking or disliking this song, I cannot understand why some of you say it will not be a good start for the three records. Singles are chosen to catch as many "fans" as possible and this is probably a decision of Reprise rather than Green Day. Anyway, to me it's a good start, and we cannot judge until we see how the song performs.
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I don't know how things work inside the music industry but i am aware it is very different for the likes of Green Day and most say pop bands. I strongly doubt they let Reprise pick their singles for them. They must have their reasons for wanting this one...i just dont get it. To me its like puting Last Night On Earth out as first single. And didnt Billie say he "fucking hates power ballads"?!

It does build up slowly, but it builds up quite strong and turns out into quite a powerful rock song. I think maybe it's the build-up of that song that made them pick this as the first single. Building up towards an even greater single.
Ritz Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I havent heard it, I hope its worth the wait. Wait. What am I saying? It will be worth the wait !

Also, I died when I saw that tweet in GDC. I was all like "THE SINGLE!!"
TheJesusOfSuburbiaIsALie Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 FUCK YES!!!!!! I really can't wait! It's gonna be fucking epic!
GuitarPunk94 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 oh love?!..i guess GD will play this song at munchengladbach then ^^ but still...ive heard oh love at the livestream when they played it at a secret show...i rly didnt expect that this song would be the first single for sth such epic and new..my guess was stay the night, but well..im fine with it ^^
Pixus Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 OH YEAHHH! This is how I was jumping when I saw the post on GDA yesterday!
angry_robot Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Singles are chosen to catch as many "fans" as possible and this is probably a decision of Reprise rather than Green Day. Excactly this. It's not really a big deal that this song is going to be single, my personal Green Day favourites mostly weren't released as singles. It's only matter of time, we'll hear this song earlier then the rest of the album and that's it.
Elena Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 haha this single is just perfect ...i told my mom i'll buy a GD single for her as a birthday present (although she's not the biggest Green Day fan, i just thought she'd either hate the song and give me the CD afterwards or loves the song and we can both listen to it and i have an excuse to buy it) if it comes out on her birthday or a bit earlier...and now this single comes out exactly ONE DAY berfore her birthday, so it's just perfect...and not just this: it's Oh Love, even the song fits ...Mummy, I have a birthday present for you
