Karla Rodriguez Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 she when I first heard it on the radio I was completely amazed of the song and made me change of taste of music that I used to listen
Sarasaurus Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 The first Green Day song I ever heard was American Idiot. I was 14 and was really into hip hop, trance, techno, drum bass, acid house etc,.. I was flicking through the music channels and for about two weeks this one song kept coming on. It had 3 guys covered in green goo and I kept by passing it. Eventually I got pissed off and decided to listen to it. I remember exactly where I sat, what the room looked like and what part of the song was on when I decided to actually listen. That was 9 years ago and here I am now.
k-ramba Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 It's nice to see how many people "American Idiot" has influenced. Some might say it's a shame so many young folks listen to Green Day now because of American Idiot, I say: look at this incredible album and its immense influence on today's society and generation. My first Green Day song was "American Idiot" as well. I was 12 and I saw a clip on TV (about 3 minutes) about Green Day being back after such a long time. They showed the video for American Idiot and Billie gave a short interview. I didn't start listen to Green Day because of it, though. Some months later I saw the videoclip for "Bvld. of Broken Dreams". It was a blast, the song was just stuck in my head immediately. I was about to turn 13 so I decided to put "American Idiot" and "Blvd. of Broken Dreams" on my wish list. My parents gave me the whole album, which freaked me out. Green Day has changed the style of music I listen to, there is no doubt. But there were certain 'wow'-moments. I remember "Letterbomb" being one and "Whatsername". The latter just evoked some feeling I just can't describe in detail. It was a feeling like when you kiss someone for the first time and you now it's the beginning of something joyful. I don't listen to "Whatsername" really often, in fact, I haven't listen to it the whole year since. But every time I do there's this feeling The ironic part is: my parents gave me the album, so they are guilty in charge of introducing me to Green Day. And now they complain when I play the music really loud since they don't like it at all
ThranaM Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I think that Holiday was the song that got me started diggin' Green Day, but I think that See The Light from 21st CB was the point where I really got into more of their music. (Dookie, Nimrod, Warning)
K!ngForADay Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 American Idiot was probably the first one I noticed - My mum needed some tunes to get her pumped for running, and AI was popular at the time. Introduced us both to the boys in green.
StPaul Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Can't remember if it was American Idiot or Welcome to Paradise, one of the two though. Just remember having this crappy little mp3 player and always playing Welcome To Paradise, was hooked on the song forever.
Anaïs. Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 The first Green Day song I heard technically wasn't even solely Green Day; it was "Boulevard of Broken Songs", being used in this Star Wars fan film trailer. It got me curious, so I looked up "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" on YouTube. My love affair with Green Day and rock music in general began there.
don'tdreamitbeit Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I had always known of their songs, but I listened to Jesus of Suburbia a few years ago and it changed my taste in music.
Theultimaxgamer Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I remember seeing holiday on tv when I was young, I ended up just looking up all of their music later on
nmycon Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 First song I ever heard was Good Riddance, this was several years later (probably even after Warning was released). I didn't have a computer then and I would have just heard it on TV, so I never found out who was singing the song.In late 2004 Boulevard of Broken Dreams was playing on the radio on the school bus. I thought I knew exactly who was singing, but when they said "Green Day" I was like "Who the hell is Green Day?"I considered it just a normal pop song, I was hardcore into the Beatles at the time (and still am), so again I kind of dismissed it, but because it was doing so well on the charts, we would hear it almost every morning. By this time I had a computer and for several months the only Green Day songs I listened to were the hits off AI like Wake Me Up When September Ends, Holiday, American Idiot and Boulevard. In 2005 I got an MP3 player (Off topic: I'm surprised I can remember the years as well as I can)and my cousin gave me 6 CD-Rs full of his MP3s. I immediately checked for Green Day and found When I Come Around and a censored version of Minority (from some "Rock Block Sampler" compilation), so that got me started on the old stuff. It wasn't until I started getting into vinyl in late 2009 (coincidentally, around the same time Green Day reissued their catalog) that I finally listened to all of their songs (I figured: if I have to pay $25-30 for an LP, I'm damn well going to listen to the entire thing through... several times )That was (only) 3 years ago, it feels a hell of a lot longer than that. Now I have a decent collection, early pressings of 1,000 Hours, Slappy and Kerplunk on Lookout, a 1995 Reprise pressing of Insomniac, a 2004 UK pressing of American Idiot, some OOP Adeline singles, those are some of the highlights.I have all of the vinyl reissues, most of the original CDs (still need a Lookout Kerplunk CD) and the European Studio Album box set. There's a lot more promotional stuff that I'm forgetting right now, I've acquired a lot in the past 3 years is what I'm trying to say I guess. And I'll be seeing them tomorrow at the ACC in Toronto, my first time seeing them live, I cannot wait!
Todd Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 The first Green Day song I heard technically wasn't even solely Green Day; it was "Boulevard of Broken Songs", being used in this Star Wars fan film trailer. It got me curious, so I looked up "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" on YouTube. My love affair with Green Day and rock music in general began there. That actually looks really fucking intriguing. It just took me 45 seconds to find the "G" on the keyboard for some reason.
Gregorovich Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 American Idiot was the first Green Day song I heard. It changed my life because after that I listened to some other songs by Green Day.
MaraGreenDay Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 The first song that i hear from Green Day was Poprocks and coke, that was the first video that i saw too, but i was so little and in that time i didn´t care about music or anything like that, so years latter i saw a video on MTV, the name was Holiday and i fell in love with the music, it was so fresh and new for me, so after watch a few other videos i buy the album and well, here i am 8 years latter more in love than ever. Holiday really change my life in so many ways, i start to listen more rock music thanks to that and they make me feel so much better with myself, thank you Green Day
The Forgotten Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 technically, my first was probably Good Riddance or American Idiot, but they never mattered to me. The first song I heard that made me notice Green Day was Holiday. To this day it's my favorite song of all time and I've never looked back.
GaxnorianLiberator Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Well I had heard songs like AI, Holiday, BOBD, WMUWSE but they were ... meh. Then I found Waiting which changed me from some one who wasn't particularly interested in music into a fan of Green Day.
BlueWingPack Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I was 4 years old when i first remember hearing Green Day. I was in my family room and Longview came on the radio. The sound of the bass made me jump around and dance to it! For the longest time i would just listen to the first part of the song so i could jump around to the bass.
RokketQueen Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 The first time I hear Green Day, I was 24 years old, sitting in a bar that played primarily dance, techno type music. Suddenly this bizarre song was played and I was like 'what the hell?". It was Basket Case and I was hooked from then on. Yeah, I'm an older fan...LoL I've gotten to watch them evolve and I can honestly say that I love each album a little more than the last.
Class.of.13 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 And I'll be seeing them tomorrow at the ACC in Toronto, my first time seeing them live, I cannot wait! be seeing you there then! My first song was 21 Guns. wow so original i know, but I was actually watching the AI cast perform it at the Grammys and it was amazing. Went straight to youtube an hour after that to look for it, watched the music video, got incredibly freaked out and vowed to never touch this band again. I redicovered them a little while later while i was searching up the soundtrack for one of my all-time favourite movies, so I became obsessed with Holiday and Welcome to Paradise. Honestly, my life hasn't been the same since. I wouldn't be into 90% of the things I am today were it not for this band, and it's because of them that I play music.
LazyPhil Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Jesus of Suburbia. Got me into good music and punk, it was a dramatic change for me.
Munchkin07 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 My first Green Day song was She. That song hit home big time. As a depression/anxiety sufferer, many Green Day songs help me cope, but when it comes to She, I had those feelings where I couldn't put into words. Green Day basically just sang them, and that's when it hit me.
JaHawk2009 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 10 years old. American Idiot on the radio. My mum bans me from listening to Green Day because she was/is a huge hater of swear words. I fell in love with the music and they became something of a forbidden fruit for me. I borrowed my cousin's American Idiot CD and listened to it so many times that I knew all the words whilst trying to hide it from my mum. God those times were fun. As a follow-up, my mum has now given up and helps me with any Green Day-related things she can, cause she knows they're my favourite band.
xSparkyx Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Basket case! I listened to the song on itunes then bought dookie. I found Green Day searching for punk rock and i loved everything about them. Now i'm a fan you see.
