Mr.Whirly1988 Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I think it's perfect. You gotta get used to it at first but.. it perfectly matches with the music, I guess.
She is Amanda Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I love it, it ties into the theme of the awesome as fuck bunny
Malleus Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 It's fabulous! Colourful, retro and tongue in cheek, absolutely perfect for the new funky songs. With Billie's smirking face there and the over the top neon colours it's like they're saying "Ha! We're not gonna do a serious cover we're gonna have some fun so there!". Love it. When all three albums are out it's gonna be SO cool to have those three CDs with three fabulous matching covers . Talk about a good incentive to buy the CDs instead of just downloading. This sums up my feelings pretty nicely. The cover is a great way to let people know right off the bat this time they are fucking around.
gloria123 Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 i love it! it looks really fun and gives me a FBHTs vibe. now Dos need to have Mike and Tre' needs...well Tre!
pretty_and_demented Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 It's... Cute. It's not bad, I like how it's really simple. The only thing I don't like to much is the colors. And thats because it reminds me of the braces I had in the 6th grade
eastbayweirdo Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I love it! It's so retro punk rock like some of the sex pistols album covers! Plus it's all my favorite colors put together! Its rad.
WalkingContradictionPL Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 When I saw it for the first time, I really didn't know what to say. I hate pink. But after few minutes I thought it's ok, instead there's pink. Why? 1. Billie is on the cover 2. Background is green. 3. Billie has X's on his eyes. 4. The cover must mean a lot of fun. So now I really like it. It's Green Day, the most unpredictable band! They do what they want and have fun.
Android Jesus Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 It's not my favorite cover I must admit, it's kinda strange from what I expected, but it's still damn cool! ;D I want to see all the covers, it seems to me they're will be just one big cover when the three covers are finished. Really excited!
Bastard of 1967 Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 So to me, it feels a lot more 80s than 60s. Although I wish it were 60s. Foxboro Hot Tubs artwork was excellent. Please somebody tell me that the 80's aren't old enough to be retro.
spark in the night Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 ew no Actually, now that I think of it, isn't there a rule of thumb that "vintage" is considered 35 + years old, and "antique" is 70+ years? Not sure on the exact numbers but I remember hearing that somewhere. (Probably on Antiques Roadshow lol)
valeriesername Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Well I don't LOVE it, but I don't HATE it, and I don't think it's Bleh-worthy, either. Compared with previous Green Day albums, this is obviuosly something different, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think this cover has a like...hmm. It looks like it has the essence of American Idiot, but with more vibrant colors. So like the font used for it kinda looks like the font used for American Idiot, but with a hot pink text color. It kinda gives it the feel of a punk-ish/rock and roll-ish vibe to it. And of coarse, the pink X's on Billie's eyes are similar to the ones on the drunk bunny on A****** A* Fuck ( you saw what I did there ) . So anyways, I honestly like the direction this is going. And I will admit that I DO like the cover for this album. ... Oh, wait! I just remembered what the album cover reminded me of! The music video for Holiday!!! Yes! So yeah. I love the cover more than i dis-like it. I have never hated a Green Day album cover.
San Miguel Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 I hope the other two albums have different colors. For some reason I associate the colors blue and silver with Mike. Maybe because he's so chill. Tre could be... i dunno the fucking rainbow I guess maybe orange and black i was thinking the exact same thing - blue for Dos with silver or white. i thought maybe yellow for Tre with purple or black if they do make all 3 covers the same, which i suspect they will, then i think they will look really great. as others have said - a great reason to buy the actual CDs rather than download - and put them on display!!
cocoepops Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 I like it, and this has nothing to do with my opinion but it reminds me a it of the sex pistols era covers
chichi Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 If it was a standalone album then no, some crazy artwork would've been better. But since it's a trilogy having each band members face on each album makes sense and shit.
Elena Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Jesus Christ Elena the cover is awesome, okay!... Dammit! This still annoys me though. haha didn't i say it? ...well, uhm...wait a little bit and you'll even like the writing jk
July21 Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 love it! so i guess i gotta love the other album covers as well wanna have a collector's box after all three albums are out!!!
BJA TC MD Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 At first I wasn't as sure about the cover but since then it's grown on me heaps and it looks great.
The Grohl Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 It is different from their past covers but I still think it's pretty cool. Definitely has a punk feeling I suppose
GDInsaniac Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 The preview song is very different than what we think of when it comes to green day music. I like that it's a fresh new sound, but is it almost too new? I mean, the distortion and power cords are what I love about green day and that vibe you get from hearing one of their in your face songs. I'm sure there still will be some version of that on these records, but I just hope they don't stray too far from their roots.
Mar Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I voted Bleh because I'm still not sure if I like it. Maybe it's because of my profession, but I really REALLY focus on the album art. It needs to visually represent the music. And if it doesn't, then it just doesn't work for me. Nimrod and American Idiot are my favorite album artworks out of all GD albums, because they have a "system" Everything about the cover art, cd art, inside jacket artwork, special edition books, whatever, gives a "look" to their songs. It matches the tone, emotions, stories, and style of the songs. It creates a cohesive, complete masterpiece of sound and brand. With the release of this cover artwork, I'll be honest. I didn't like it upon first seeing it. It looks cheesy, and when I look at the lime green and hot pink, I think of cheesy electronic 80s pop songs. But then I get confused by the X's. Because now it reminds me of the hardcore punk albums of 70s/80s. And then, when I hear the trailer, I get even more confused because the music sounded so amazing. IN MY OPINION, the excerpt of music in the trailer and the album artwork do not match. (as of yet) Once I get to listen to the entire album, I will either change my mind and believe, yes this artwork reflects the style of music on its album; or my opinion will remain the same and I will be disappointed. I felt the same way about 21CB when that first came out. Couldn't stand the typeface that was used on 21CB. But after listening to the album, I realized that it was a good match for its songs and I didn't dislike it as much. So, we'll see. Holy shit I could not have said it better. I also worry that people will view it as being incredibly immature instead of fun.
JellyTime Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Cover reminds me world in the eyes of someone on LSD I love it!
Katarina. Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I can't wait to see the whole thing. As in, cover art, back cover art, the booklet, and the cd and everything. And then the music of course. You know, if those green circles/objects are on the CD, I can already imagine spinning it the whole time to see what that looks like Just one thing though: I hate that color pink. It's like that magenta color you never want to use in an older version of Word. haha
StuckWithRob Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Just one thing though: I hate that color pink. It's like that magenta color you never want to use in an older version of Word. haha Haha I thought that too! But maybe it ties into the pink tape they had for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance, we may be seeing a lot more of that colour! As for the cover, it's my favourite since 'American Idiot' (not that impressive since there's only been 1 other studio album!) and reminds me of a happy version of 'Shenanigans'
*dry_ice* Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I love pink, I love bright green... but in my opinion this cover sucks, I usually don't pay too much attention to them, I will buy the cd anyway, but... if I think about their other album covers, for me that's the worst... but I'm almost sure I will love the content of the album as much as I love all their songs...
Schlappy Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 i think it matches the music we've heard so far quite well actually, a bit stripped down yet with hints of maturity. The album looks so simple and classic but with billies smug face on there it feels like "we're going back to our roots but with an acquired twist". theyre forty now but are still those little punkers at heart only now they actually sing about fucking women instead of masturbation, heh
