Honestly, my first reaction was "What the fuck? Are they serious?" :P But it's definitely really grown on me. It's got this retro-punk feel that I dig, and I like that it's simple in a non-simple way, if that even makes any sense.

No need to over analyze it, I think. They've made it clear that they're putting all their effort into the music this time around, and ignoring things they've focused on [a little too much] over the last decade, like their image and the "theme" of the albums. The trilogy titles aren't especially complicated, so I'm glad the covers won't be, either. Looking forward to just straight-up rock and roll records.

I think you have to be familiar with GD's sense of humor to be able to appreciate the cover. I wonder what kids who are just getting into GD will think of it. It's definitely not something that I would have paid attention to at the record store.. but then again.. times have changed.

well, i guess it is safe to say mike will be on dos and well, tre on tre. i kinda like it. but i was hoping it would have something else. what that "something else" thing is i havnt really thought of, but to me if this IS indeed the cover art, they couldve done more. but the main thing for me will be the music and i love how it sounds so far, so ill give em that. and what the hell, i throw in what everyone else says it does indeed "grow on you"

I think Green Day is too focus with the music, so they're not really focus with the album artwork

I know that they must have some artist to work with the artwork, but basically Green Day must involve to that

I think it's like the mix of nimrod, american idiot and awesome as fuck, with a little touch from LSD effect :lazy: :P

Not that fond of it as a stand alone album. Together with the other 2, when then come out, will probably change my mind about it. Until then, it just feels unprofessional to me. Yes, fun and light-hearted and yes they music is always more important, blah, blah, blah, but they could have put a bit more effort into the cover(s).

When I first saw it, I really didn't like it. I thought it was tacky and after how much I loved the 21CB artwork (and how that fit so well with the album), it seemed disappointing.

I love it now though. It's too early to analyze how it relates to the songs or whatever, and I doubt there's any deep meaning anyway, but I realised it doesn't tell any less of a story than any previous one does. It has its own character that probably personifies the songs... even if that message is just to let yourself go and seize the day and not give a fuck. Which is new and awesome. I like the colours too.

Now we just need the songs to go with it. :P

I really am loving the cover the more I look at it. Billie's ridiculous face has a sort of troll-face vibe to it. The way it's looking down at you, it's sort of like saying 'oh yeah we did'. I just want someone to write a scathing review on the album, just so someone on tumblr can post that photo underneath said review with a 'u mad?'.

ya know? Or am I just being too hyped and writing nonsense?

Can't wait to see the back cover/CD art. And new merch. It's going to be so colourful :D

I don't know if it's been posted, but here's a HQ 1000x1000 version of the cover - link

From what I've felt about Green Day, each album has really had a different feel and was always able to stand alone, and quite strongly. I like the colors and the way it looks, but I can't really pass judgement on how it fits into the entire album because we haven't heard much yet, but from what we've heard, it seems to fit.

I don't want to say this album is crazier or more fun than their other albums, because Green Day has always been that way to me, even when they tone it down, there's always a song or two :)

I hope the other two albums have different colors.

For some reason I associate the colors blue and silver with Mike. Maybe because he's so chill.

Tre could be... i dunno the fucking rainbow I guess  maybe orange and black

I voted "Yes"

When I first looked at it, I thought it was something fan made... Just 'cause it doesn't look like an album cover to me, it's nothing out of this world plus it's really simple. But that's one of the reasons why I became to like it, I guess it goes well with the theme of the album =)

One thing I don't really like is the font.

So, I like the cover but I don't love it (yet)

I hope the other two albums have different colors.

I was thinking about that as well!

I think it’s genius. I mean, at first I almost took it as a joke because it’s so bad. But that’s what makes it so good.

The feeling you get about the trilogy is that they're not taking themselves to seriously, they’re just having fun and doing whatever the fuck they want, and this album cover is the epitome of that.

Some hideously clashing, poorly laid out album cover with big pink letters on and billie pulling a pretty daft face is perfect, because it breaks all the rules.

It’s the opposite of what some people would say a Green Day album ‘should’ look like.

The punk crossed out eyes really don’t go with the bright colours, but that may well some up what they’re doing: pushing and breaking the boundaries of what punk bands should do.

And it’s meant to be voyeuristic and personal, so their faces on the covers works really well too. Especially seeing as they’re not the usual made-up ‘look how much we look like rockstars’ magazine photoshoot photos.

And as everyone keeps saying, it will really stand out and make people double take, which is great from a sales perspective.

I’m just looking forward to seeing the set when they go on tour.... :P

It needs to visually represent the music.

The album art is *so* psychadelic 60s, and if they've been pushing to bring out more of a Foxtubs "anything goes" vibe in their music and move further away from punk -- which from the studio teasers and trailers we've seen thus far would seem to be the case -- then I think they've fucking nailed it with this.

I don't know. I like the text. I like the background. I think the xs to the eyes idea is really cool.

But something is off, and it prevents me from accepting it fully

That's exactly how I feel, but I still say I like it because of the simpleness and how it matches the music style I am expecting.

It's still much better than 21st CBD

the background reminded me of this

First thing I thought of when I saw the cover

ME TOO. I even mentioned that to my sister.

It looks so completely different from the last few albums because it looks kinda homemade, and i like that. While the other last few albums look so professional and perfect. It makes me feel like this album is more for the actual fans and not made to make money.

When I first saw it I smiled and say what?!, but I love it!

This isn't like AI or 21CB covers, so professional and so serious... This is simply Green Day and it fits perfectly with the album names. It's fun.

I can't wait to see the three album covers together.

You took the words right out of my mouth, and you can really see it in the hi-res pic that was posted earlier in this thread. It's a Cometbus 'zine in CMYK 4-color offset -- another "Walking Contradiction" if you will because no such thing "should" ever exist -- and as such it's another hook into the band's punk roots. Amid all the market-researched, polished-to-perfection. manufactured pop that these albums are going to be released among, Green Day's saying yet again that the "mainstream rock star bullshit we're all 'supposed' to be doing just isn't for us". They're one of the biggest rock acts today, yet they still wanna be the minority and this album art is just another way that they show it.

Interesting, I don't see it as psychadelic. It's too harsh and rough.

I could agree that it slightly looks psychobilly with the oblique distressed type (like Horrorpops' album "Kiss Kiss Kill Kill") [x]

The rendering of Billie's head reminds me so much of X-ray Spex [x]

So to me, it feels a lot more 80s than 60s. Although I wish it were 60s. Foxboro Hot Tubs artwork was excellent.

I'm not trying to be a pain in the side or anything. Just wasting time over-analyzing and criticizing :P

Oh, man, I look at it for the first time and I was like YEAH, this is GREAT! I mean, it's all about what you have already said...

And I was thinking how DOS and TRÉ covers will look like. It wouldn't sound fair to me to have 3 totally disassociated covers considering it's a trilogy, the other 2 albums probably will have the same style and I can not think about something else that would put them as equals. Fair enough, tho.

I really like it!

Loving the Pink and Green! I think its something new and exiting and different to previous albums, i think it looks less serious compared to "American Idiot" and "21st Century Breakdown" and look more fun! And i really Hope the records are a bit more fun and less serious compared to "American Idiot" and "21st Century Breakdown" don't get me Great albums! But i would love something different now! Cannot wait to hear the the album(s) now!!!! :D :D :D

I like it. It's really old school and DIY.

I haven't made any thoughts about how the cover could look like before. I just saw it and liked it a lot. :)
