Rachii Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Surely playing a club in Reading during Reading Festival would be a ridiculous idea, since all the rock fans in Reading will be at the festival!?
englishidiot86 Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Surely playing a club in Reading during Reading Festival would be a ridiculous idea, since all the rock fans in Reading will be at the festival!? it'd be easier for us to get tickets though:D
San Miguel Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 it'd be easier for us to get tickets though:D i think this is the only reason why people on here are hoping it's something seperate to the festival. i'd be very surprised if they didn't play the festival given Billie's instagram quote
Martyn Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 I'm sure that they could just fly though? I might be wrong but I would say it's more likely that the reading show is the festival. They'd have to transport gear, backdrop, everything...so not flying is usually preferable wherever possible. Surely playing a club in Reading during Reading Festival would be a ridiculous idea, since all the rock fans in Reading will be at the festival!? EXACTLY! 85000 rock fans + they'd play a small club in Reading a short distance away which would hold a few hundred?!? that's just be complete mayhem. really can't see that happening!
Guest Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 They'd have to transport gear, backdrop, everything...so not flying is usually preferable wherever possible. I still think they could do it, I mean, even if they went via tourbus it's only England, it's not a massive place.
anniewoo Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Surely playing a club in Reading during Reading Festival would be a ridiculous idea, since all the rock fans in Reading will be at the festival!? mainly indie bands this year... past couple of years reading has been filled with annoying pre 16 year old idiots who think it's cool to drink and be general knob heads. but i think the chances of playing a club rather than the festival is not a lot
The Pedestrian Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 A band as huge as green day playing a measly surprise set on a lesser stage with little advance advertising seems mental really. But Billie said they were going viral, and I guess the fact that it’s so mental makes it a great way to advertise these albums. Plus, the BBC televise Reading. I guess the consolation for anyone in the north of the country is that at least we’ll get to see it? I know I’ll be watching. It does seem a bit odd playing two shows in the far south though. Yes it’s ‘our nation’s capital’ but at the same time, it’ll cost hundreds of pounds for many just to even get there and it does exclude most of the uk fanbase which is a shame really. It would make sense to be playing manchester and london, or something I guess (and really wish they were). But hey, we’re the uk. It’s not like they won’t be coming back

Fuzz Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Question! Is there are precendence of a band, a big band, playing a surprise set at Reading fest? It would seem to be that would be something the organizers would want to promote the hell out of.

But yeah Foos + The Crooked Vultures so far. It's the weekend so Reading won't' say anything until Monday if even then, so billie managed to get the exclusive

However, it wont be a club, imagine how annoyed Melvin will be to find out that a huge band like Green Day would play a club same weekend as the festival. They wouldnt burn there bridges with him at all
purplebenny Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 that last line, exactly! at least you get stuff in the UK, poor other countries (like ireland :angry ) They always play Ireland when they tour properly dude
Hellcathavok Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 How can you all afford to even get to london!? I have a job and megabus is really cheap, I plan to night bus down, and night bus back so no hotel needed.
Undómiel Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Idiot Club is down. Could that be a sign? :runaround: You're a detective now, nothing is a coincidence.

It would seem to be that would be something the organizers would want to promote the hell out of. Guns N Roses were surprise headliners at Leeds only the one year. After the main headliner (think it was The Prodigy that year) the flag changed to announce guns n roses would b a secret headliner. Also Them Crooked Vultures did a secret set on the second stage a couple years ago. There was a gap of about 90mins between 2 of the bands and there was a lot of speculation before hand. We'll have more of an idea once stage times are announced to see if there's any room for them
