Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Impossible! How could one choose between all those! Although I'm surprised to see Letterbom winning... I really like that song, but I don't think it's the best...
whatserbmae Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 From all the songs, there's only 3 I voted for in previous rounds; Walking Contradiction, Roshambo and Letterbomb. Letterbomb is such an amazing song, so I'll have to go with that.
Brigister Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I'm kinda disappointed that a song from AI is winning again. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favourite albums ever, but I their older songs got more appreciation. I like the fact that GTP has a lot of votes though
Just a grouch Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Man, this was tough and I surprised myself by picking Going to Pasalacqua.
Bastard of 1967 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 The jury has reached a verdict: Who Wrote Holden Caulfield. With the one exception of Roshambo which I don't really care for, so that was an easy one for me to eliminate, these are all just phenomenal songs. I don't think any of them are "the best" Green Day song in my own personal opinion, but the ballot is the ballot and if you're offered vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, ya cain't go askin' fer cookie dough now, can ya? Anyway....among the choices offered I think WWHC is the lyrical standout. A teenage high-school dropout songwriter "gets" The Catcher in the Rye well enough to make it autobiographical, weave his own experience of boredom, frustration, and apathy into it, and teach us all a lesson about just how fucking hard it is to grow up: "There's a boy who fogs his world and now he's getting lazy/he has no motivation and frustration makes him crazy/he makes a plan to take a stand but always ends up sitting/someone help him up or he is gonna end up quitting." When you're teen-age or in your twenty-somethings, you hear this and see parts of yourself reflected in it. Later, when you're a geezer like I am, you can also see Holden reflected in your own kids and (assuming you give a shit) you start strategizing how you're going to help them navigate that when, inevitably, it's their turn. The other songs on the ballot all contain their own powerful messages and lessons (I gotta tell ya, Minority, Letterbomb, and J.A.R. were real close choices for me), but none that eases pain like knowing someone else understands how hard it is to make that adolescent to adulthood transition. That Billie Joe recognized this at such a young age and then created with the concept what he did is what puts Who Wrote Holden Caulfield in the "best on the ballot" spot for me. Musically, WWHC isn't the best we've heard from Green Day -- raw, muddy guitar and percussion instead of the clean, crisp, overwhelming sound we've become accustomed to, but that's mostly due to a very young band recording on a shoestring budget and not having access to quality equipment. In other words, they did the best they could and I'll appreciate it for what it is anyway. I love the live version they included on Awesome As Fuck, and would kill to have this re-recorded.
Disapperingirl Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 ...you almost made me change my vote but your reasons are brilliant!
Elena Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 i voted for WWHC, simply cos i love that song, its melody is awesome and the lyrics are even better...and since i'm reading The Catcher In The Rye at the moment, it totally fits ...it hurts voting against Minority and J.A.R. though ...and i never thought that Letterbomb is THAT popular...i like that song, it's amazing, but it's never been one of my favorites, not even of American Idiot...it would be okay for me if it won, cos it's still an amazing song, but i don't want an AI song to win again ....on the other hand it's cool if an AI song wins again, that just shows how amazing that album is
Bastard of 1967 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 ...you almost made me change my vote but your reasons are brilliant! See my sig block.
EliseGD Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I found it really hard to choose one, but eventually I went for Going To Pasalacqua. Idk it's an amazing song. I'd prefer the live version though, but I guess that's with 99% of the Green Day songs haha
ScreamsInSilence815 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 She FTW. My favorite Green Day song out of their entire catalog.
Annie, get your gun Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I know it's not the same, 'cause there are less than 30, but we can make a voting for the Best Green Day Video. I was watching International Superhits! and I can't believe how each video is better than the previous.
Ashley! Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Wow, I'm surprised so many people have voted for letterbomb. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that song, I just kinda want something off an older album to win.... So, I voted for Going To Pasalacqua, because it is one of my all time favorite songs.
Cris. Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 This was so hard! I love Who Wrote the Holden Caulfield?, She, Scattered, J.A.R., Minority! Letterbomb and American Eulogy. (I know there's no ! in Minority's name, but that's how I said it in my head). In the end I voted for American Eulogy... I know 21stCB is one of the least favourite Green Day albums of the band's fans but for me... well it's very very high on my list and some days it's simply my favourite.... and then, it has Mike's vocals as well as Billie's, in the last 3 Green Day concerts I went to I placed myself as directly in front of Mike as I could just so that he could fucking spit the words of that song in my face because I just love it that much... My heart aches a bit because I couldn't do 3 votes though (even two wouldn't have been enough). And I do have a question. I've been a member here for a while but I most often just lurk, and even at that I haven't been very good lol... the fisrt post of the thread this would be "the (second) best Green Day song".... I'm assuming you already voted for THE best Green Day song? In that case, which won?
lovelybones34 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 wow this was very tough for me. I was stuck between letterbomb and Roshambo.
Satan Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 wow this was very tough for me. I was stuck between letterbomb and Roshambo. vote roshambo, letterbomb has enough
ScatteredPictures Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I think I've already posted in several threads that I think Letterbomb is absolutely perfect and my favourite song
Katarina. Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Woohoo team Letterbomb! I'm glad songs like Waiting or Homecoming aren't on the list, it would've made voting even more difficult..
San Miguel Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 wow what a great list we collectively have come up with. whilst my personal choices would have been different for a few albums, it's still a great collection She is my favourite song from that list but Letterbomb will be a worthy winner
adrocker Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Very very very very hard choice but had to go for letterbomb, really wanted to vote for more than one as Scattered and J.A.R are also some of my faves, and Hitchin' A Ride is my all time favourite which isn't in the poll but hey had to choose one
July21 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 sorry, i can't go with letterbomb. i just love scattered too much!<3
DannyDirnt Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Changed my voto again lol I think it's clear that Letterbomb will win but my vote has to be for Walking Contradiction.I love that song too much.I never imagined Letterbomb was that popular. And it's getting a lot of attention lately.
