It appears as though Kid Rock will be playing for GnR.

What?

Even if GD doesn't play, let's not discount someone's abilliety to grab a guitar and inappropriately join in a performance against the will of the inductee *cough*iggypop*cough*

i still think this is weird. they have NOTHING in common. It's like, what- was NOBODY else available?

also, if axl shows up? wicked awkward!

Anyways all i can think of is the 30-second cover of "sweet child o' mine" that they did last time i saw them. And billie hitting the high notes... fucking funny.

Would love to be there, but will have to watch on May 5 on HBO.

I saw this posted in a CBS News article. So if you have cable and HBO at least we can see it later.

"The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air May 5 on HBO."

No HBO here. Hopefully someone will put it on You Tube.

I feel the same way. When I read they would be inducting GNR i was like wtf...really? Why? They both seem so different.

Why everyone's asking that -why they choosed Green Day, that isn't a hard metal band?? I don't wanna be mean, but maybe they choosed Green Day so everybody goes to the ceremony and then everybody watches it on tv... :ermm: Ok, they took GD there so people would care for this event!

Since when do such things need to be rational? We've seen Green Day receive a Grammy from Penelope Cruz for crying out loud. They'll get the biggest name they can to induct GNR.

Haha. Good call.

The original G&R is long gone. Slash can't write a decent riff today to save his life. He was a god in his younger days - perhaps he should pick up the needle again.

Also, Green Day should never play a G&R song. They're simply not good enough. Stick to 3 chords and typical vocals, guys.

Guns N' Roses tweet

Guns N' Roses@gunsnroses

One thing we can say about 4-14-2012 in Cleveland, Ohio It's gonna be a @GreenDay

http://bit.ly/HjUcIK

From the Billboard article:

"While Guns N' Roses had undergone a tumultuous set of lineup changes since rising to superstardom with 1987's "Appetite for Destruction," Green Day has kept its lineup of Armstrong, Dirnt and Cool intact since 1990, when Cool replaced John Kiffmeyer as Green Day's drummer. For those wondering, Green Day is eligible for induction in the Rock Hall of Fame in two years."

The point is that the green day cover was hilariously bad. Their heavy metal mix-ups are fucking funny.

and the needle is never a good thing, but hot damn it gave us some good music. Too bad it makes people die and shit.

I thought it was sooner than that. It must have to be 25 years with the same line up.

well then how in the fuck does GnR get in? they broke up, now axl is playing with some other dudes...

I don't get it. I just am hoping for awkward Axl Rose/GNR drama at the induction! And maybe Tre will say something awesome...

It's 25 years from the release of the first album. So 1990, yeah? So 2015. Maybe they mean that they would be up to be voted on in 2014 for a 2015 induction. Or they count 1000 Hours as a 1989 release.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure lineup is semi-irrelevant, it's the existence of the band as a whole, hence the 2014 possibility for GD - the HoF considers 1000 Hours its first release under the GD name, which means it would be 25. And I'm gonna say they're a lock for induction given all of the band's pre-eligibility involvement!

When Billie Joe was asked about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (interview from 2009)

Will Green Day be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

I saw Lars [ulrich] from Metallica the other day, and they just got inducted. We're really starting to see people [get inducted] that were maybe not in the same generation per se, but the gap is starting to get closer and closer. It's weird; I've been in this band since I was 16, so I'll be eligible when I'm like, 42, or something. We'll see what happens.

But you'd be down for it, unlike, say, the Sex Pistols, who didn't find it to be very fitting of the punk ethos?

Yeah. I've got my own ethos [laughs]

Green Day will be turning 25 years, this year. That's something that confuses me a lot, when do the counting starts, when they put out their first recording?

Because at some places says something like "Green Day since 1987" or 1989. It's also important if the band thinks that they truly started when Tré joined...

What I do know is that when their moment to be inducted comes, it will be wonderful 'cause they deserve it. :)

Axl Rose is such a bitch. He doesn't want to attend the induction::

I don't really care about Guns N' Roses so this is good news for me cause that may mean green day will perform!

It was cool and legitimately "punk rock" when the Sex Pistols declined induction into the Hall of Fame.

For Axl to do it is just a whiny bitch move.

You've lost what respect we had left for you, Axl.
