What did he say?

I'm not sure. Right before they started playing Sweet Child O' Mine he mumbled something and I heard Billie Joe

Too bad things like this always happen when for me it's the middle of the night, but the vids look really cool:) and so does Billie Joe in his blue striped shirt and the leather jacket, favorite!

Haha, Billie's wearing his infamous blue striped shirt XD

It's nice to see them without the ties and just dressed casual, they look better.

Thanks everyone for posting pics, videos etc! Can't believe I stayed up till about 3:30am then went to bed and missed most of the action

So are we seeing (at least part of) Billie's new tattoo in this pic? I don't recognize the stars, nor what looks kinda like the Adeline skull - and lots of other stuff - higher up on his arm. Edit: sorry, didn't realize someone had already pointed it out XD

All I really want is to see Billie's new tattoo properly.

You can sort of see his tattoo here:

It says St. Jimmy I think, the skull reminds me of the one with the heart eyes from the 21CB artwork.

Sorry if you already knew all of that

Listening to the recording, can some one explain why people are boo-ing? Is it cause of Axel?

Yeah. He made a big deal about not showing up earlier this week or something.

There's a video with highlights from the show here, starting with 20 seconds of the Green Day performance - close-up! :D

You can also catch a glimpse of them on stage with GnR at 01:43 (after Billie's speech)

Very nice! But eww Travie McCoy isn't worthy of doing a Beastie Boys song.

Haha, Billie's wearing his infamous blue striped shirt XD

 Brilliant! Best thing about the whole show.

My dad has always liked Green Day but now that Billie said he couldn't play Paradise City because Slash was so good he couldn't do the song justice, my dad loves Billie lol

sorry if you guys posted this already! but here's a full text version of Green Day's speech, if you're a huge gunners fan like me...its spot on and sums up the band so, so well. :')

Completely love it when billie tells the crowd to shut the fuck up when he is talking about axl :L

I am no fan of axl and think he is a twat for not being there last night but he is still one of the greatest frontmen ever - and we should always remember that :)

Here is a video of the entire performance of Letterbomb.

Shit! is fucking INsane! RHCP, Slash, Billie!!!! playing Higher Ground :D

Uh, Billie said Slash was too good for Billie so he can't play Paradise City? Dunno what he means, Slash is the most overrated guitarist of all time.

from Rolling Stone

The evening kicked off with a surprise performance by Green Day, who did a bombastic rendition of the American Idiot deep cut "Letterbomb." Few in the audience seemed to know the song, but Billie Joe Armstrong worked the large room like a pro and got everyone pumped for the long night of music and speeches ahead of them.

Green Day initially seemed like a slightly odd choice to induct Guns N' Roses, but Billie Joe Armstong spoke extremely eloquently about group. "Appetite For Destruction is the greatest debut album of all time," he said. "Every song hits hard on all emotion levels and takes you on a journey through the seedy underworld of Los Angeles in brutal sequence…The thing that set them apart from everybody else was guts, heart and soul. Most important, they told the truth."

Another from AZ Central

If Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day seemed an unusual choice to handle the induction of heavy-metal legends Guns N' Roses to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 14, well, he was.

But the bubblepunk hitmaker rose to the challenge with a heartfelt, entertaining 14-minute rant in which he pledged undying love for Guns N' Roses and first album, "Appetite for Destruction" in particular.
