Heather. Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 For me personally, I never realized how much I liked Homecoming until the musical. I think Letterbomb is overrated among hardcore fans *ducks and covers*... but then again I feel the same about WWHC.
classof12 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 can't decide between letterbomb, homecoming and give me novacaine!
Nzap Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Yea, I can't really comprehend how AI only has 5 votes now that I voted for it. I thought it was the clear favorite here? Well looks like I won't have voted for any songs that go through (I doubt 21st CB will make a difference). Oh well, I had none from my top-10 in the final vote last time either, so no biggie.
classof12 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Hey, you forgot Jesus of Suburbia!! we're doing the votes without it because it was last year's best song.
miragots Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Homecoming!! It has such a powerful meaning to it. but it's SO hard to chose. Seriously.
Katherine W Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I had to vote American Idiot. It's hard not to vote for the song that sets the tone for the entire album.
justcause Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I had to vote American Idiot. It's hard not to vote for the song that sets the tone for the entire album. I had this thing in the AI era of 'American Idiot without American Idiot' - like, sweeping that prelude aside and having an album whose first words are 'I'm the son of rage and love, the jesus of suburbia', because I felt so strong that this was the real core, the real statement. Looking at the poll-list, it's obvious that this theory doesn't work in reverse - American Idiot without JOS has the heart ripped out of it. Voting this was easy - Whatsername swept everything else away, even Letterbomb, even St. Jimmy. All of the rest of it is just places along the way, no matter how loud they seem at the time, no matter whatever else seems to be claiming center-stage, it's all about JOS and Whatsername. The song itself is so fucking beautiful, a smear of emotion and dreams told in a fatalistic drone-tone calling down to 'time of death' on this romance but IT WON'T DIE, no - it explodes into the anguish, it stings on and on in the loop of regrets that refuse to be hopeless, it leaves the whole album on an unanswered question, smouldering in the reverb.
ScreamsInSilence815 Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 This was harder than any of the others, since AI is my favorite album. But I had to go with Whatsername.
ltrbmb17 Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I don't know if this is true or not, but I suspect that the Musical recordings of some of these songs, could be changing people's judgement. I'm not a big fan of AI Musical recordings but i was really charmed when Rebecca sang "Letterbomb". It's gorgeous!!!
Undómiel Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I'm not a big fan of AI Musical recordings but i was really charmed when Rebecca sang "Letterbomb". It's gorgeous!!! Yeah that's what I meant. I love that version too.
Burnout98 Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Many people will disagree, but American Idiot is my favourite song. Its the song that really got me in to Green Day
Sarcasm Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I think this album is almost flawless... I was never a fan of the long and apparently meaningless intro to Extraordinary Girl, so I edited that part out on the album I have on my phone. Does anyone have any input on why it's there at all?

Does anyone have any input on why it's there at all? I wouldn't edit any parts out! Especially if you're trying to listen to it as an album. That's like saying "Oh yeah, I edited out the long and apparently meaningless intro to Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band"... Even if the meaning isn't essentially obvious to us, it's probably there for a reason... it's part of the album. It completes it.

When It's on my phone all the songs on there are on shuffle, when I listen to the physical CD I listen to it all, but when the song randomly plays when I'm shuffling I've got no patience for a 30 second bongo solo.
Elena Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 damn...i really can't decide...i would have voted for JOS, but it's already elected to best GD song ever uhm...it's a tough call between...all the songs !! AI is my fave album and i just love all the songs ...idk whether i should vote for Holiday, it always makes me happy, the lyrics are amazing and the meaning is also amazing, the melody totally fits and is also just amazing or Wake Me Up When September Ends also means a lot to me, cos in the year where it came out my grandpa died and when the album turned 7, it was also 7 years ago where he died and 7 years has gone so fast...and also when i came out of the hospital after the docs told me that i croke my collarbone this song came on...or should i vote for Whatsername?...i've always loved that song and it always made me wonder how the real name of that girl is...and now we finally know: Amanda ...or Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, which was the first song i was able to play on guitar properly (WMUWSE was actually the first song i was able to play, but it sounded horrible and it was way too slow) and also means a lot to me...or probably St Jimmy? it has a lot of energy and i just love it....or maybe Homecoming? my friend's band got the name from that song...or should i vote for Are We The Waiting? one of the songs where we got our band name (Rage And Love)...but Give Me Novacaine is also an amazing song, you get the meaning after just a few seconds, everything just fits perfect in that song....American Idiot is also an amazing song, i love the meaning and the live version is always amazing, She's A Rebel is also one of my faves and Letterbomb, too...and so is Extraordinary Girl, it's totally different to most of GD's songs and i love that... kay...i really can't decide
Annie, get your gun Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Here we go again... Now Letterbomb is going to win and everybody joins to "Team Letterbomb" but in the end we know that a song like Going To Pasalacqua will win.

That was so beautifully worded!
darenmay Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 wheeeeere have allllll the bastards gone?? LETTERBOMB! was made into perfection.
Nary-chan Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 This is the hardest one to vote on, no doubt. American Idiot is my favourite album of all time, and every song on it is a pure masterpiece. But I'll go for Whatsername, 'cause that's the one I can relate to the most at the moment.
Stormy Haze Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I was so torn between Letterbomb and Homecoming, but in the end I went for Letterbomb.
BringMoreKnives Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Damn, tough choice.....Hmm, I'd have to say Homecoming.
Elena Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 hehe Wake Me Up When September Ends has 7 votes, which fits perfectly to the song (7 years has gone so fast) and Holiday has 21 votes...which also fits, cos I first think of 21 Guns there and those songs are both about war xD (am i exaggerating with GD references? ...cos now i start finding references in references )
Mike of Suburbia Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Oh no. I was fearing this one... I'm gonna listen through the album first...
