Working ClassHero Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 It´s really hard to choose...But in this moment my favourite is Boulevard of Broken Dreams! No, Holiday! No, Wake me Up! Noo, Give Me Novacaine! AI! JOS! Are que the Waiting! All!! It`s REALLY hard, but i vote Whatsername...Because represent the finish, to beginning for me !
DoodleBob Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Torn between Are We The Waiting and Letterbomb. Letterbomb is too kickass to not be voted for, so I went with that.
No Rhyme Or Reason Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 This is the #1 hardest album to vote for. It's the album that introduced me to Green Day, and every song has so much meaning it's ridiculous. I love every single song! They're all my favorites! I think I'll go with Extraordinary Girl, since it's always been one of my most listened to GD songs. And it's so pretty, but emotional and deep, and has that lovely rolled "r," and the cool exotic Arabian sounds at the beginning. It's just awesome. But I would also vote for Give Me Novacaine, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Homecoming, Holiday, Letterbomb, Are We The Waiting... okay, the whole album.
The Grohl Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 This is really hard. For now I went with Give me Novacaine
drummerdude13 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I was torn between Homecoming, St. Jimmy, and Letterbomb, but I ended up going with Homecoming. I mean, with Tre in "Rock N Roll Girlfriend", how could I not vote for it?
AllIWannaDoIs... Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Easiest vote for me. Holiday. It was the first Green Day song I listened to, got me into Green Day and will always be my favourite
Undómiel Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Can't believe AWTW has only got one vote so far.... honestly.
Sarahnade Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Are We the Waiting for so many reasons. Chills every time.
Class.of.13 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 It's definitely Whatsername for me. I remember the first time I listened to it; I was literally out of it for days and it was stuck in my head. I love the way it makes a great ending while very subtly hinting at a new beginning.
*withoutadoubt* Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 So, so hard to choose a favorite - I think I said that, or at least thought it, in almost every vote! There's such a wide spectrum of perfect songs to choose from here - they all make me feel different things. For me, it's so close between Letterbomb and Novacaine...ugh. Both great in their own ways, but so completely opposite feeling. Oh, Give Me....Novacaine.
Holly Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 It is almost impossible to choose a favourite song from this album without JoS in the mix. I went for Letterbomb, I'm not entirely sure if that is my second favourite song from the album, but I'll stick with my instinct.
pretty_and_demented Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Hardest. One. Ever. Gonna sit this one out like the little wimpy I am
agrizotti Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Homecoming is my ultimate favorite song. (but I wish I could vote for Novacaine too!)
whitechristmas Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 It was a tie between Give Me Novocaine, She's a Rebel, Letterbomb, and Homecoming. But in the end, I ended up picking Homecoming. This is the hardest one of them all, especially because JOS isn't in the mix.
Satan Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 whatsername. That's definitely the second best song on this album for me
Hermione Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 This one's hard as fuck for me. So many great songs on that album for so many different reasons. I think we should draw a line between "favorite" and "best", seeing as both are kind of used interchangeably, and it's totally mindfucked me right now. "Favorite" is the one you enjoy listening to most, regardless of quality. "Never Gonna Give You Up" is one of my favorite songs, not because it's any good or worth half a shit at all, but because it's fun to fuck people around with. Likewise, "Holiday," "St. Jimmy," and "Letterbomb" are three of my favorites because of how much fun they are. "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is one of my favorites because of that great slow buildup leading to the huge solo, but there's nothing really amazing, musically or lyrically, about any of the songs I've mentioned as compared to, say, "Jesus of Suburbia". Is there anything amazing musically or lyrically about any post-1980 song as compared to JOS? But I digress. Looking at the rest of AI from a "best" standpoint and not a "favorite" standpoint, the only song that really compares to JOS at all is the album's other epic, "Homecoming." It's not as good as JOS, largely because of weaker, shallower lyrics (and that's not a slight to the song at all, as it's still great). That said, it's as musically daring as JOS, and having Mike and Tre write parts of it was a great move. It adds some dynamic changes to the song that I don't think Billie Joe would have done by himself. There's a lot going on throughout this song, and I've always thought that the biggest thing the song has going against it is JOS. It's clearly the inferior of the two epics on AI, and I think that causes it to sometimes be overlooked. So, yeah, the second-best song on AI (not necessarily my second-favorite) is "Homecoming". Deciding what's best in music is so subjective that I think in the end the best is just whatever your favourite is. I'd say go with your favourite, makes for more interesting results if people go with their hearts instead of trying to be objective in any case.
Zelda Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 This album is too fucking amazing to choose just one song. I really don't know what to choose. I tend to gravitate toward Holiday, but BOBD is the one that got me hooked on the music. JOS is the one I relate to the most. Homecoming is a 9 minute eargasm. AWTW and Novocaine give me chills every time. I'll just stick to Holiday and get it over with.
The Snark Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I thought this would be easy...I'd just pop in and vote for Letterbomb and that would be it. But dammit, now I'm thinking and I don't like to think! Screw it...thinking ruins a lot of things. Letterbomb it is!
*withoutadoubt* Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 The more you think about these songs, the harder it gets to make a decision.
Mar Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 This one's gonna take me a little bit to decide, because each song is fantastic in its own right. Whatsername, Letterbomb and WMUWSE each mean so much to me.
Heather. Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 This choice is absolutely impossible for me. I guess that's why they call it a masterpiece, eh? I arbitrarily chose BOBD. I would basically put all of these songs on the same pedestal minus She's a Rebel and Extraordinary Girl.
Malleus Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Voting for Letterbomb because I am a big fat drone.
QueenOfSuburbia Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 VERY hard to choose. I voted blvd of broken dreams because it's the song that made me discover Green Day. But the entire album is just awesome. My favorite album of all time. This album is too fucking amazing to choose just one song. I really don't know what to choose. I tend to gravitate toward Holiday, but BOBD is the one that got me hooked on the music. JOS is the one I relate to the most. Homecoming is a 9 minute eargasm. AWTW and Novocaine give me chills every time. I so agree with you!!!
TheJesusOfSuburbiaIsALie Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I voted for WMUWSE. This song is really very special to me an the melody, the music, everything is just so beautiful. This is probably one of those few songs which can make me cry very easily...
