21st century breakdown took over a year to record but american idiot took about 4 months. The Foo Fighters in a garage recorded a record in 11 weeks so they should have a single out by August

Oh my god the intro . Cool show!

By the way Haushinka isn't about Amanda, it's about a girl called........Haushinka

‏ @BJAofficial

Haushinka was written around the same time as basketcase. But released on Nimrod. And yes there really is a girl named haushinka.

Amused by the pronouncing of the "Reading Festival"

Even though it is spelled Reading, it is pronounced "Red-ing" :P

Hehe I was also amused by this :P

I remember reading somewhere that Haushinka is a girl Billie met in Japan, and that's why the name is so peculiar. I don't know if it's correct, but I know how much they love to play in japan, so I won't say it's impossible.

Well I apologize. I've always heard it pronounced as "Read-ing"

As Billie says, he met her on the eve of his birthday. And for some reason, I want to think that the band has never been on tour on Billie's birthday

The stuff I read is speculated on here http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=5233

I couldn't find out if it's a name, but if it is, it's not spelled "Haushinka".

Reading is a place name, that is known as red-ing, but it's very easy to see how that could be missed outside of England. No need to apologize, It just seemed funny/strange to hear it like that.

See, I was pretty sure it was 'Redding' but on one of our earlier episodes I let Tony pronounce it because I didn't want to fuck it up and I thought he pronounced it "Reading." Stupid accents and stupid English pronunciations of words that already exist.

I remember a video of Billie Joe saying "and I'm at the fucking 'Redding' festival" - but that's the only other time I had heard someone say the word.

I always thought it was Reding, basically because that's how Billie prounounces it in BIB but I heard Tony call it reading and assumed he would know since he's British and all. Now I'm just confused.

Go on iTunes store and search for static noise. You can download most of the episodes from there. Ep 13 is gone though, and I don't think the first 5 episodes are there either..

it's funny that everyone here wondered whether its Red-ing or Read-ing :D ...i also always thought it's read-ing, but then i heard someone pronouncing it red-ing and didn't know whether she just pronounced it wrong (cos she was german) or whether i always pronounced it wrong...thanks for the clarification

Well considering the song goes back to 1993, do we even know if Billie had been to Japan before then?

I'm not trying to state facts, but the thing with the peculiar name and stuff just adds up with the rumors I've heard. And it IS a lot of immigrants in the states, so it's possible that he met a girl with a funky name there xD
