It's going to be tough deciding between Scattered and Prosthetic Head... They're both in my top 10 Green Day songs, probably in my top 5 even. I voted for Prosthetic Head for now, but I'll check it in a few days and I'lll change it or not depending on the results.

Such is my love of this album, I've decided to post. This never happens.

Anyway, in keeping with my tradition of voting for some of the least popular songs thus far, I'm going with Jinx. Great lyrically, with a lovely blend of Billie's self-depreciation, sarcasm and masochism. I also like that it's verses all the way through, with no chorus - a novelty within their catalogue, matched (I think) only by Jesus of Suburbia/Homecoming, which don't really count. It's also a good representation of their snotty side, without overdoing it in the way Insomniac occasionally did.

But fuck, this is such a great record. So many ones I could have gone with. Nice Guys Finish Last - so many people take the title at face value, without realising it's making fun of the phrase and the people who hide behind it to excuse pitying behaviour. Hitchin' a Ride is a bit overplayed now that they've played it during every concert in the last 14 years, but still a great vibe and what a balls-out ending! The Grouch always felt like a slowed down Jinx, and I enjoy it for similar self-depreciating reasons. Uptight has the quintessential bouncy chorus, I think, and is therefore sadly missed at their concerts :(

More? Fine. Worry Rock has one of my favourite opening lines ("Fucked without a kiss again"), and a sweet as pie chorus line ("Promise me no dead end streets, and I'll guarantee we'll have the road"). Like Sarcasm mentioned, Walking Alone has to be considered just for the harmonica, because - like the saxophone - it can improve just about any song. King For A Day is almost as overplayed as Hitchin' A Ride, but twice as fun and a perfect example of why Green Day were always 10x better than their contemporaries, who never managed the balance of humour and melody the way Green Day did. Finally, Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). What is there to say? Played everywhere for every occasion it was never meant for, but, in truth, Billie will never come up with a better finale to a concert. Poignant, can be taken any way you like, musically beautiful, great lyrics, and still fresh 14 years later.

This is a lot of words just to vote for Jinx, but I felt the need to explain myself. So there.

"Troubled times, you know I can not lie.

I'm off the wagon and I'm hitchin' a ride."

So my pick is Hitchin' a ride. One of my favourite songs ever.

Glad you posted, great post! It's true there's just so much to love about Nimrod and I share your love of Jinx (not quite enough to give it my vote though unfortunately). Love the way you summed the song up.

LAST RIDE IN! :woot:

Kidding. Nice Guys Finish Last

Posted

I prefer King For a Day honestly... Was so different from all the rest :P

Nimrod is such an epic album, it is so hard to choose. I went for Nice Guys Finish Last because I have really grown to love that song since seeing it live in 2010

Posted

This was definitely the most difficult album to choose for so far. My favorites are Haushinka, Redundant, Prosthetic Head, Hitchin' A Ride, Worry Rock, All The Time.... all the others! I want to just vote for the whole album.

I went with Haushinka - something about that song makes me want to listent to it all the time. But they're all good, so I'll be happy with just about any of the songs winning.

Posted

Nimrod is my favorite album  I love every song on it so much! I'm gonna have to listen to it a couple times before I can decide which song is my favorite...

Posted

I voted Haushinka. Surely was not expecting Scattered to be taking the lead.

I always thought Scattered should have been a single.

Anyway, I voted Haushinka because there's something about that song that makes it sound so fresh even after 15 years

Posted

Hitchin a ride. I love this song so much. And it's super kick ass live.

Posted

AHH! Reject, All The Time, Uptight, Worry Rock WHAT DO I CHOOSE?

I went with All The Time. And I definitely see either Scattered or Good Riddance winning this.

Posted

I have a soft spot in my heart for Redundant...

I love how (mostly) everyone is being so hipster by not voting for Good Riddance.... even though it's got to be one of the most well known/well played/ well loved Gd songs of all time

Posted

Like totes went with Last Ride In-2kforeva!!!!!!!!1

Not.

I went with Worry Rock. I'll probably change my mind over this again because Nimrod is just the best.

Posted

This one is the hardest so far. Ended up voting for The Grouch.

Posted

They need to play more of them live.

YES!

Posted

Going with Worry Rock because it's beautiful and I love it.

Glad my third choice, Hitchin A Ride, is doing well.

Posted

Went with Worry Rock, but I'd also put in voters for Uptight, Scattered or Redundant.

The only time Green Day fans can ever be associated with hipsters.

Posted

That is such a tough choice! But I went with Walking Alone cause I can relate to that song at any point in time :)

Posted

I voted for Good Riddance, but I wouldn't mind if Walking Alone or Scattered ends up winning, this record has too many good songs  But I do feel bad for Last Ride in right now

Posted

Pretty hard choice. Nice Guys Finish Last, Hitchin a Ride, Redundant, Worry Rock, Uptight, Haushinka, Reject, King For a Day and Good Riddance could all have gotten my vote. However I think that I will have to go with the amazing Scattered

Posted

I actually can't really decide between Scattered and The Grouch but I think I'll go with Scattered!
