Velocity Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 That was really cute, I liked it Although I guess it's a bit odd (or un-punk, SHUN THEM!!1) they're clearly having fun and the video was just really well done. And poor Mike at the end, haha. I have mixed feelings about Billie's outfit though His jacket is VERY MCR Black Parade-ish like lizziebix said. But it's great seeing them again and seeing what they're up to.
farley drexel hatcher Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 GQ hints about Green Day playing at New York Fashon week. http://www.gq.com/style/blogs/the-gq-eye/2012/01/gq-eye-exclusive-green-day-for-john-varvatos---spring-2012-campaign.html Can you paste the article here? I'm on my iPod and it directs me to the main page and I can't find the damn thing!
LinziLetterbomb Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Oh my Lord! I love it! They all look so good! Very unexpected! Glad to see them back messing about again and i would be interested to see where this campaign leads...
desertrose Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 American designer John Varvatos has teamed up with Green Day to launch his new collection. Famed for his musical collaborations, John Varvatos has kept fans guessing for months as to the identity of his latest playmate. Now the designer has revealed that Green Day will help him launch his new collection. Themed around the city of New York, the punk group are shown floating on top of the world - literally. Inspired by Phillippe Petit’s breath-taking stunt in 'Man On Wire' the campaign also references Charles C. Ebbets’ classic 1932 photograph 'Construction Workers Lunching on a Crossbeam'. A New York patriot, John Varvatos was pleased to take the new campaign back to the city. “It’s just the right combination of laid-back and outrageous to perfectly represent the star quality of the band and the only place big enough to hold them.” Danny Clinch agreed. “The idea was to portray Green Day as larger than life full of the rock‘n’ roll spirit that lives in John’s head and that he translates so well into his line of clothes. We feel like these images really nailed it.” http://www.clashmusi...y-collaboration Green Day for John Varvatos Spring 2012 Campaign For the record, the boys from Green Day are NOT afraid of heights; as they star in the spring 2012 ad campaign for John Varvatos suspended above Manhattan, reminiscent of "Man on a Wire", or a leathery, punk rock version of Charles C. Ebbets' "Construction Workers Lunching on a Crossbeam." (Do you think Billy Joe is a turkey or ham guy?) In any event, as we saw last season with the Roots, J.V. knows how to throw down a launch, and we're hoping this also means Green Day will be playing at New York Fashion Week. If so, see y'all there. Shouts to Danny Clinch for directing a cool spot. http://www.gq.com/style/blogs/the-gq-eye/2012/01/gq-eye-exclusive-green-day-for-john-varvatos---spring-2012-campaign.html
Alan86 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I don't really care that they do things like this. Im not really that interested in it personally but this is the kind of stuff that is like fuels for the haters.

BringMoreKnives Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 That was...kinda odd for them to do. But Billie Joe riding a giant ball makes it okay. ...The only reason that I've heard of John Varvatos is becaue one of his stores is where CBGB used to be.
Boston Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I actually like those clothes a lot. I want them.
Fuzz Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I think the clothes actually look pretty cool, not that I'd ever wear any of it.
Katarina. Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 What's in a name.. hey! Well actually it would make an hilarious parody of their own 21CB video, haha
Annie, get your gun Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I love it!!! The clothes looks similar to what they wore on the rolling stone's photoshoot. And they're all crazy and playful
princhess Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 erm.. i don't wanna be a party-pooper, but New York Fashion Week? Seriously? I kinda fail to see Green Day as a "fashion band", or as a band who suddenly has to do all kinds of stuff besides music. yes, the clothes do look cool, but on Green Day? It's strange to see Billie in a parade jacket, when he's stated he has had the same pants since 12th grade. i'm almost scared about what's coming next...
sara_gd Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I don't know what to think. The video is well done and it's nice to see them, and yeah, they look really good. But, I don't know, I think that putting themselves like that make them look like Disney stars or something. They can do whatever they want but... Billie always explains this kind of things by saying that it was a challenge, or something someone offered and they just thought "let's go for it", and I support that musicaly (like the Broadway show and stuff), or when it's for a good cause (like the advert for NRCD), but why would they make a video for a clothes line?
November's Storms Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Yeah I'm not a fan of this. When The Who "sold out" it was a good joke idea for an album http://covers.a-go.in/max/the_who_-_1967_the_who_sell_out.jpg but this, I don't see the point. Probably even more reason I dislike it is all the new "omg billie's hair" or "tré is thin!" stupid posts like that

The fashion week thing was just GQ thinking out loud. And regarding "what's coming next", I'll worry about that when/if the ticket prices start to soar. Until then none of this matters.
Fuzz Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 This is not the first time Green Day has been a part of something fashion related. Billie Joe attended events with Adeline Street, Mike endorsed some clothing line a while back, not to mention working with MacBeth footwear as well. Don't act like this is suddenly the thing that pushes Green Day too far into another business.
spark in the night Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Um.... kind of a dumb video. The chopped up song sounded bad and the green screen background is low budget. I don't understand what it's about, it just shows the boys flailing around on a fake steel building frame.
sara_gd Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I smell the sell-out cries I don't understand why people call them sellouts because of doing a musical and stuff, because it's music, is what they do. But I do understand it in this case. I mean, I'm not going to go around calling them sellouts now because of this ( ), and if the music is still as good, fuck all this stuff, but I don't think they should put themselves as a "fashion band"(like princhess said).
Fuzz Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Yay controversy to talk about on the next podcast!
The Snark Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I love this idea and personally, I love the clothes. They're not at all like what most designers call fashion now (aka like something only Lady Gaga could get away with), so it's actually quite refreshing. I smell the sell-out cries They'll be coming from the same people who hated the idea for an AI musical but are now all 'ZOMG...I LOVE IT!!!!1!111!'
Fuzz Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 They'll be coming from the same people who hated the idea for an AI musical but are now all 'ZOMG...I LOVE IT!!!!1!111!' Do those people exist?
