Lindsay Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I'm currently in a room with 5 other amazing people because of this band. Hard to believe they wouldn't be apart of my life right now if it weren't for Green Day, or this forum. I guess all I want to say is thank you. /supercheesypost
Penguin Puffball Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 They bring people together. People we never thought we'd meet, we've gotten to know through their music.
solongfromthestars Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Well, I wouldn't be here today without Green Day. I was ill to the point that nobody could help me. I couldn't go to school or even leave the house. I won't go into the whole boring life story thing, but when my days were numbered somehow Green Day got through that dark cloud and gave me hope. It was a hard time but I got better and left the past behind. I went to see Green Day and for the first time in my life I fit in somewhere, I was happy. Following the tour changed my life. After missing 3 years of school, I passed all my exams. I got a place at college. I even got a volunteer job at a cancer charity and I'm writing a series of books. I went from ill beyond repair to a positive and ambitious good person. It was because of Green Day. They've helped me through so many hard times. I could keep talking but I already feel embarrassed and boring. My story might be irrelevant, but the thing is that I speak for so many other people. I'm one in thousands whose lives Green Day have changed and even saved. It's just one little thing that comes with being a GD fan. You guys have already listed so many others. Sure the world is a better place because of them.
colour_me_stupid_ Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I met Glen cause of Green Day, therefore they made the world a better place
DoodleBob Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I feel like a lot of the things I would mention have already been touched on, so all I can give is a personal experience. I feel like the world is a better place because of Green Day in the sense that they connect people together. Right now, I have met some of the nicest, genuine people on this forum that I wouldn't have met without Green Day. People on this forum listen, respect, and comfort eachother, and that's what I love most about it. I haven't been here nearly as long as some people on here, but I can already tell that I've made some life long friendships. Also, Green Day inspire. Like some people already mentioned, they wanted to learn English because of Green Day, and I think that's pretty kick ass. I know I started teaching myself acoustic guitar because of Green Day. And how about Green Day Across the World? I know it didn't turn out as planned, but come on! They inspired a whole frikin' forum to get together and clean the environment! I remember Billie tweeting about how happy he was when he "saw people planting trees on GDA". Now, that's teamwork. That's GDC. That's why Green Day has made the world a better place.
Tre_Gina Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 This thread makes me feel really 'patriotic' for Green Day! You just have to look at GDA/GDC and the things they do and the people involved to see the world is a better place because of Green Day.
November's Storms Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Tony, what a fantastic idea for a thread! Well, I wouldn't be here today without Green Day. I went from ill beyond repair to a positive and ambitious good person. It was because of Green Day. They've helped me through so many hard times. I could keep talking but I already feel embarrassed and boring. On a purely personal (and possibly vanity fuelled) note, Green Day have made the world a better place because I believe they have made me a better person. For me they opened the doors to punk, and to so many great bands and artists with important messages that the world needed to hear. I have become very active politically, socially and environmentally because of Green Day and punk in general, they showed me how important it is to give a damn. I have been on so many marches, changed my way of living in and viewing the world. I'd like to think I've become a less selfish person, more just and that I don't impact negatively on people or on the environment. I have Green Day to thank for the person I am today.
Moyeszet Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Uh, I forgot. They taught me through songs like "Disappearing Boy", "She", or "Jesus of Suburbia" how to be myself. I discovered them at a moment of my life where I was starting to be sheepy, to be like any other random french girl, to be like society said me to be, to think like everybody wanted me to think, because I had no friend, because I felt the other way than my classmates. If I discovered them, it was because I wanted to imitate that one girl I was finding cool, that was speaking about 21 guns. (That girl don't like GD anymore, I think, uh). But all their music told me that it was okay to let your own self go, to be what you want to be in your head, to be politically incorrect, to think that makeup is a loss of time, make ugly and that it's reductive for women (yeah, that's crazy, but I think that if society didn't tell them, nobody would put makeup), to want to punch someone for being racist, to be open-minded and give the major finger at anyone who wants you to be "normal". I think it saved me to think like that. Cause definitly, I couldn't fit in that mentality. I'm not the girl who can go all screamy face to a dress, who turns around boys and mocks the others and is on Facebook all the time and draws hearts on the arms of her friends that everyone told me to be. I would probably had hurt myself realizing that, because in my life from 1st grade to that period, I never had no serious friend. I was thinking I was strange : Now I know I belong somewhere ; I would never had met my friend Sky, who opened to me a large range of other friends, if I had not sang out loud, unconsciously, an line of Jesus of Suburbia. I would never had got that note at the Brevet if I hadn't got all the ideas their music taught me. Before I always thought about what people were going to think before acting, and that was bugging me, because I'm really spontaneous. Now I tell what I want, and people find it awesome. (amha). I think a lot of people had a similar experience here...
gmcloughlin Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Green Day are part of who I am. Thanks to them, I've discovered who I truly am. I've made incredible friends who've stood by me through thick and thin. I took up the guitar because I wanted to play their music and I had some of the greatest experiences of my life at their concerts. They've definitely made made my world a better place
Brigister Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Uh, I forgot. They taught me through songs like "Disappearing Boy", "She", or "Jesus of Suburbia" how to be myself. What about Road to Acceptance and Minority? I think Green Day made MY world better 'cause they got me into good music, taking me away from that hip-hop/pop crap I was into when I was a child and I hadn't already found out about them.
WestboundSign! Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 What I really love is seeing how Green Day affected my life and the life of many other people. I listen to a lot of other bands, know all of their songs and really like them, but they are nothing compared to Green Day. Really - nothing. I've never experienced that a band (apart from Green Day) affected me in what I do and especially - in who I am. I don't know if it's just me, or how others see that, but for me, it always seems as if Green Day is the only band that can change your whole life if you just let them and their songs into your heart. I couldn't imagine another band to change me this much. Not even a single band seems so special and unbelievably unique to me. This may sound so stupid.. but it's true.
pretty_and_demented Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I think Green Day has made the world a better place by allowing people to find confidence in themselves. They have given me, and I'm sure many others the power to say, I'm me, I don't care what you think, if you like me great, if you don't, I could really care less. They also have gotten people through a lot of things in life. They have a song for everything, from relationships, dealing with you enemies/parents, drug abuse, politics, so on and so forth. I know Green Day has changed the way I am today and has actually made me a better person. I believe they are the only band who has a voice strong enough to actually make a difference in the world. What I really love is seeing how Green Day affected my life and the life of many other people. Annie, get your gun Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I don't know if I can do this without starting to cry... Ok first off, the world is a better place now because no matter how terrible the day can be, Green Day is the sparkle that makes the dark shitty day shine, and it makes you wonder if it's actually that bad or you can turn it around if you keep fighting for what you want. And they're my smile every day when it begins I have many reasons to think the world is a better place thanks to Green Day... ♥
colour_me_stupid_ Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Been having a think about what else I can contribute to this thread Well, when I started listening to them I was about 12,13. I was so.damn.shy! Had absolutely no confidence in myself, no courage to speak my mind or come out of my shell. Hell, I remember this one time my neighbours were picking on my little sister and I was too damn scared to stick up for her. These days, if anyone was hassling her they would have me to answer to. Green Day made me realize: fuck everybody who thinks I'm weird for liking the music I like, who think I wear weird clothes or who think I am weird full stop. That's who I am and I have no reason to be ashamed of it. I have an amazing group of friends today who love me for it Some of those I wouldn't know if not for Green Day/GDC. I think I am a lot more confident, definitely not too shy anymore, and am overall a different person now than I was before I heard Green Day. Obviously part of that transformation was just growing up, but Green Day gave me a much needed helping hand
raven052 Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 This thread is beautiful Yes. Of course the world is a better place because of Green Day. And specifically my world is a better place because of them. Green Day, for me, kicked the door down on my medicore music taste. I'm a proud part of the American Idiot era wave of fans, and they got themselves into the magazines I was reading (teeny stuff...) and on the music channels I was watching. Before them, sure, I had favourite bands, but one thing I never realised was missing until I found it in Green Day, was that connection. That understanding. I'm sure many of you know what I mean when I say sometimes it feels like Green Day has taken the thoughts and feelings in your head and turned them into something... Amazing. I'll admit though, for whatever reason it was, I didn't really get what Green Day meant to me until the past year. They'd always been there, but this year they made a huge impact on me, proved to me how much they'd already been there for me, and how they always would be. They taught me what it is to love a band, to get a band. They took me back to things I already loved, that already meant so much, and showed me how to really appreiciate them. I wouldn't quite say 'you taught me how to live' just yet, because I'm pretty sure I've still got a lot to learn, and as long as they're gonna keep teaching, I'm gonna keep paying attention in class Also, of course, there's all the beautiful people here in GDC You all just prove how cool it is to be a Green Day fan.

Cori Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 "I heard they found another cure, for broken hearts and feeling insecure..." You're right, Billie Joe, they did. It's your band's music. It's been about a year since I really started getting into Green Day, but they've already helped me through some stuff. When I learned last spring that this guy I liked didn't feel the same way about me, I think I would have been more sad if it weren't for Green Day. I feel more confident in who I am now, too. I don't care as much about what other people think of me, but I do care more about issues, specifically political ones, that are important to me. Green Day also inspired me to learn to play the acoustic guitar, so I just got one for Christmas and am busy trying to teach myself how to play. I never would have discovered the college that I'm really wanting to go to without them, which is UC Berkeley. Judging by how much better Green Day has made my world and the world's of others on here, I feel sure that the whole world is made a better place because of them.
alaniluau Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 You could finish that sentence in an infinite number of ways. I'll write about a few. Green Day has had a profound influence on the culture of the past few decades. In 50 years, which albums and songs will be cemented into the history of music? Will high school grads walk down the aisle to "All the Single Ladies"? Absolutely not. Green Day will stand the test of time, and people will still be discovering these fantastic albums decades from now. I can't think of another artist from the recent era that's affected not one but several generations of society so strongly. As a corollary, the band has served as inspiration for so much else. Not only in music (though it would be impossible to measure the musicians that picked up an instrument because of Green Day--hell, I'm one of them), but in writing, visual art, and pretty much other field imaginable. When people fall in love with the music, they realize a world of opportunities they'd never noticed before. On a personal level, Green Day has completely turned my world right-side-up. They have provided constant companionship and smiles in times when nothing else could. Because of them, I've been to cities I never thought I'd see and done things that seemed impossible. In addition, they are the sole reason I fell in love with music and now plan to make a career of it. And even though I'm just one insignificant person in this world, I'm going to take the inspiration I've gotten from the boys and multiply it for all it's worth. So yes, positively, absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, Green Day makes the world a better place every day.
classof12 Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 because they've made lot of us be different and individual
whatsername Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I admire how much thought, passion and love they put into everything they do, they really care. They don't half-ass anything and i think nowadays that alone is something very special. They've influenced me in so many ways. They give me strength. To stand up for myself. Green Day makes me a happier person. Ok first off, the world is a better place now because no matter how terrible the day can be, Green Day is the sparkle that makes the dark shitty day shine So true
-Billiejoezee- Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 They created the biggest and coolest family called the idiots.
Angela. Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Green Day really changed my life. They gave me that big push of confidence and courage that I needed. It was that confidence and courage that led me to defend myself when people tried to hurt me. It was that strength and confidence that eventually enabled me to voice my opinions without caring about negative reactions from others. At really dark points in my life, the lessons I learned from them, and the music, helped me through it all. Getting into this band led me to this forum, and that resulted in two amazing things. 1.) I met one of my best friends, Tasha, and getting to meet her in person was one of the greatest times of my life. 2.) After signing up for this forum, I began to notice the great graphics people made around here. It made me want to try making awesome stuff, as well. This led me to downloading Gimp, and beginning to edit images and become involved with graphic design. This led to wanting to make a career out of graphic design. In October of last year, I applied to Art school and became accepted at that same place in November. Basically, GDC made me discover what I wanted to do with my life. Pretty cool, huh?
Hermione Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Aww I love this! For me they make the world a better place because they make impassioned music from the bottom of their hearts, never afraid to be honest or daring or humourous or ambitious, or all of those things. They give every ounce of themselves whether it's their music, lyrics or live shows and it's amazing to see. Every day I'm impressed and made happier by what they've created.
