I think it's a good idea. I'll drop the 99 cents or whatever.

however i have a bias towards the AAF version of Christie Road because well... that was my show, dude! I was there :)

i am down with anything though. 2000LY, Holden caufield whatever. However- i'm pretty sure some of the kerplunk stuff is avail only if you d/l the entire album (at least on emusic. they make you get the whole thing, not individual songs.)

My vote would be for Holden Caulfield or Android. Both awesome songs, and if I remember correctly, two of Billie's favorites.

This is a great idea! I think Christie Road would be a good choice. Or Holden Caulfield.

Christie Road would be amazing. But I'm down with anything really.

This is such a great idea haha. Love it.

I'd go with 2000LYA I think. I'd guess it's probably the most well-known, maybe I'm wrong though. And it's my favourite :P

So Kerplunk is 20 years old on 17th January 2012. It's a pretty big anniversary.

Does anyone else think it would be a cool idea for a mass download of a chosen song from Kerplunk to get it in the chart for a week to celebrate it's 20th Anniversary?

I was thinking maybe Christie Road as it's quite a mainstream song and there's also 2 versions to download which would both count towards the chart (Kerplunk version and Awesome as Fuck version)

May I ask where should we download that from so that it gets in the chart?

This is going to be so awsome, Christie Road would be the perfect choice too.

2000 lightyears away would be awesome, and Christie road too!

we only get to choose from 2 songs? thats poop.

i'm out.

I think Who Wrote Holden Caulfield is the perfect choice, since it's Billie's favorite song from Kerplunk. Oh and we should all download the Kerplunk version, not the AAF version, since it's Kerplunk's 20th anniversary.

I have no idea how many people have to download the song to get it to the iTunes charts (we're talking iTunes, right?). But if the whole forum pariticipates we can do it.

Oh and to the people who have already downloaded Kerplunk on iTunes: You can download a song twice.

I voted for WWHC? because it's Billie's favorite so it'd be more of a treat to find out it's on the charts.

Either would be fine choices, I voted for Christie Road because in one of those long Q&A interviews from AI era when they asked Billie to say which song from each album best represents that album, he said Christie Road off Kerplunk.

Posted

ok, it was difficult to choose for which one I should vote, cos they're both my favorites, but I voted for WWHC, cos we also do an anniversary video with that song and above all it's Billie's favorite song of that album !! :) ...oh and i was the first one here who brought up the idea of taking WWHC, so it would be weird if i voted for CR  ...and really prefer WWHC for this :)

...thanks for making a poll and especially one with my faves :) (and with my idea of WWHC  )

Cool idea indeed. I think it will be tough to achieve, but not impossible. We'd need a big promotion campaign from as many people as possible.

My vote's with Who Wrote Holden Caulfield :)

Great idea! I voted for Christie Road.

I voted Christie Road! +_+

I will post comments on loads of Green Day YouTube videos once we've decided on a song.

If this happens, I'll definitely buy whatever song is chosen.

I'm totally down with this. I'm gonna vote for Holden Caulfield, just because of the reference to Catcher in the Rye and I know that so many people have read that book. It might be easier to get that one into the charts. Plus, as someone said, it's Billie's favorite from Kerplunk!. I shall help in whatever way I can by posting whatever song is chosen on my Facebook and Twitter. :D

This is really a cool idea, though. Kerplunk! deserves to have a song on the charts. It's an awesome album!

Does downloading different live and studio tracks of the same song really all contribute to the charting of one song? I would have thought that if half of us downloaded the AAF version, and half Kerplunk, it'd just split the downloads and neither would chart?

I think this is pretty much what is going to happen.

I don't think it would make any difference. I mean, it's the same song, by the same band, just from different albums. I really don't know. I'm just guessing, but it makes sense to me. :ermm:

No, we'd need to pick a specific version of the song. Even though it's the same song by the same artist, they are different versions.

I just looked on here http://www.theofficialcharts.com/chart-rules/

And it says:

In addition to 3 physical formats and 3 digital bundles, an unlimited number of digital variants of the featured song may be combined for a chart position.

Note: The featured song across all formats of a single need not be identical for their sales to be combined, but should be substantially the same - that is an identical OR extended OR remixed OR live OR alternative version of the basic song.

So I take that to be the Kerplunk and the AAF versions would both count.
