Oh wow, friends shouldn't let friends drink'n'write -- dangerous territory you get into, yes! Just promise me you'll re-read it after the hangover wears off before you hit "post"!

Haha, yes, it should wear off by Sunday, if I am able to hit post then. eek...

So because one person lied about her life and whatnot, we all need to give up on the idea of GDATW?

Well, I don't know about others, but we're already planning our next meet-up here and no matter how many people will end up doing the same next year, I'm already looking forward to it.

 I never heard that quote. But he's quite right with that actually :ninja:

I feel a bit ambivilant about the name change to be honest. I mean, the name was chosen by the members of this forum (and I remember clearyl how long it took to agree on one) and has therefore not much to do with Dawn or with what she did. Also, it's the name people (who attented and who didn't) know this event by and if we changed it, some people might get confused about it, I don't know.

I think that too. Dawn took over the whole thing, but the event wasn't Dawn's property, it wasn't even her idea, and she didn't do a lot for GDATW (although she said she was going to), she was just a "leader". I don't know about other countries, but I organized it in Spain last year and people in my meet-up didn't even know who Dawn was, she was just a world coordinator or something like that. I think that changing the name might be confusing, because people already know the name, blogs, e-mails etc for the event are already made, some meet-ups even contacted the media I think (?)... I mean, the only problem last year was that Dawn promised things that she didn't do, but the meet-ups themselves where fine. I don't know, I think the organization should remain the same, with the same name and everything, just don't having/changing the leader.

I tried staying away from all this because I thought my input was irrelevant at the time, but I won't be the first to say that Im glad the truth is out..even though it had to happen this way. My sisters and I met Dawn in New York, like many of you, and I thought her and her story was extraordinary and looked up to her in a way, and it's hurtful that much of what she explained wasn't true. But I honestly do hope she gets the help she needs. I know many are much more emotionally attached to Dawn than I ever became but it was still a huge shock to me finding out about all this. I really do wish the best for Dawn and hope she finds a better way.

Thank you to all those who helped find the truth in this mess and I'm glad to see that something will continue. I know things are really set in stone yet, but Im glad to see the community coming together and moving forward, however long it may take.

I stand by what I said in that thread. Even if the worst was true, which much of it seems to be, I'll never support our forum being used as a place for people to gather and go after an individual. Facts should be shared, but that thread wasn't filled with a lot of facts, it was filled with a lot of speculation. As I mentioned there as well, GDC isn't an investigative newsroom or a law firm. It's not right for us to use this platform to build a case against someone. The reason I have a problem with it is because the second that type of attention is given to someone who's innocent, then we've fucked up. Our community should not be about a public lynching.

Andres, you know I was pleased you shut down the thread. It was absolutely sickening. I believe that some folks were presenting some thoughtful insights into the validity of Dawn's claims wrt her background, and what is likely a fradulent organization and I am glad they shared what they were able to learn. Obviously it goes without saying that nobody here supports internet bullying. Unfortunately there will never be any "facts" wrt GDATW other than the honest goodwill fans had towards supporting it.

Regardless of what happened, I'm in for a new plan. I didn't know Dawn and I honestly don't know too many people on this site.

But, it is a real kick ass idea to keep doing something environmentally progressive in honor of the band and world we ALL know and love.

I hope to be a part of some wonderful new event in coming years.

Even though, this was the out come, we DID have fun at GDATW! I met a lot of GD fans I'd never meet if this wasn't arranged.

so, you know what they say. "when Life gives you lemons, make lemonade out of it"

Man, this sucks. I wasn't involved at all and didn't lose money, but it still hurts that someone would use our boys Green Day in a misleading way like that. I mean, it's not like i KNOW them, but it still leaves me feeling hurt a little, like when someone talks shit about my mom. Green Day and the community are my family. Don't wrong my family!

However i know a lot of people had the right idea in their hearts when they were planting trees or cleaning up or whatever. I absolutely think we should organize another day this year- even if it is loosely organized and named something different- the intent will be there, and that's what matters.

Also i am trying to brainstorm fundraising ideas that doesn't involve ebay or high price items or whatever. Maybe small ticket stuff like water bottles or cloth grocery bags or something along those lines. Anyone ever consider setting up a table at a music festival before? I would be down for doing that myself... (i miss it. I've spent YEARS behind a merch table at this point. It's been a long time and i could do it again...)

That's one very upsetting thing that remains now that the truth is known -- I mean, the whole band showed up at a casual yet hugely successful party in NYC earlier this year, and gave at least a buzz of real support to the effort...and now we find out that at least some of the money-handling part of it was a sham.

Andres - has there been an effort to reach out to Green Day's management to let the band know what happened, and what GDC will do to avoid getting accidentally behind a situation like this in the future? You, J'net, and the rest of the GDA/GDC leadership have worked so hard to build a close working relationship with the band's management and it would be terrible to see it impacted by something that was clearly not your fault.

I'm thinking something like 'Green For A Day', but whatever I'm sure everyone will come up with something awesome.

Actually that's what I voted in the poll there was in the initial thread, when they were going to chose the name for it... And I think most of the people did, but somehow the long "Green Day Across The World", which wasn't the most voted, was chosen ( I think Dawn decided that for herself, I just remember being disappointed with the name lol and also with the website ugh)

I never got really involved with this, and now I'm glad I didn't.

It really sucks that a lot of us trusted this person, and in the end it was all a lie. Of course the concept of this day is still great, and we should totally do it again, with another (better) name for it =D

"And for our fans, they're just crazy people anyway. I always look at people in a Green Day shirt, and I think, 'What's wrong with that person?"

Billie Joe Armstrong

Not all fans are crazy... in fact I tend to wonder what is wrong with him? The clean up event was a good idea... it gave new meaning to the words "Green Day". If people want to donate to charities... my advice is... keep it local or donate to proven organizations yourself... do not go through a middle man.

YES.

That was my idea last year when we were having the poll for the name and it almost won/should have won. I like it better than Green Day Across the World still.

Right, that's what I remembered too, but I wasn't sure... Dawn liked GDATW much better, imo it is a much too long name (her original idea was even longer, something like Green Day Fans Unite Around The World).

I think that the thing about the names in the poll was that they weren't decided by the community, plus that Dawn didn't like "Green for a Day" xD

Personally, I think that only Green Day fans will get the KFAD thing (it's not even one of Green Day's most popular songs), it doesn't tell that it's an event happening all over the world, and it gives the idea that we're only "green" for that day.

I feel glad I got involved with it because it was great. Dawn wasn't everything in GDATW...

Oh yeah, I remember that one. It was terrible

Oh no, i'm fairly certain a TON of fans are crazy. I wholeheartedly admit that i am crazy. Fucking looney tunes. But at least i'm medicated :)

And also- Andres, J'net, and co (i can not remember all you GDA owners...) I hope you guys get in touch with somebody at the GD camp, be it management or whoever. They deserve to know what's going on, and also the explanation/apology/hope that it never happens again/we had no idea type stuff. Though as they all seem like rational human beings, i'm sure they would understand. It's not the first time somebody's been scammed in the name of a celebrity (just look at all the fake autographs and merchandise out there), though it is on a bigger level.

SUCKS. I remember Adrienne tweeting about it! She was so excited. Oh well.

However, at least now that this is out on the open, if another group or event was organized, i think we'd all be on our toes to make sure it went the way it was supposed to...

I would be astonished if the guys arent aware already to some extent about what has gone on here and certainly dont think that they need to be sent any kind of apology or whatever with regard to GDA`s involvement.

im so sorry this happened.....i thought it was such a good idea!!

wow, so that was a very negative outcome to such a positive event..

That's my thinking at the moment. I'm pretty sure they're aware in some sense what has happened, and I don't know that we need to clear our conscience about something to them. I'm pretty sure them and their legal team are content staying away as far as possible from all of this.

I believe it still needs to go on, because it helped me with my life. It didn't just help the community, it helped people's lives too. After GDATW, my dad and I started bonding together. Having something like this was a great way to bond with my dad. My dad is a Navy veteran and it's not always hard to connect with him. I feel like it's a great way to bring people together and it also helps people out too. I had so much fun last year.

I had such a bad conscience when I was asked at the party to donate for it. Now I'm glad I didn't.

I love the name "Green For A Day" - it's perfect.

I'm a bit confused though. Why can't we just keep the name GDATW??? Is it some copyright thing or something? Why do we need to change the name?
