Isabel Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Proper can't deal with this. My two favourite bands in the entire world playing at the same festival.....I will die. EDIT: How does Reading/Leeds actually work? Is it that they're both on the same weekend but you just go to one or the other? Or could you get a Friday ticket for Leeds and a Saturday ticket for Reading or something?
Undómiel Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Any idea what day they'll play? I know they're not even confirmed yet but... do you reckon they'll do "rock day" or do you reckon the Foos will get that?

Oh, I didn't even know there was such a thing as 'rock day'...I know nothing about this festival
Undómiel Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Oh, I didn't even know there was such a thing as 'rock day'...I know nothing about this festival It's not official but usual there's a day when most of the (what I would class) as "normal" rock bands play but everyone else would class as "heavier". This year it was Architects, The Blackout, New Found Glory, Bring Me The Horizon, Rise Against, Deftones, The Offspring, 30 Seconds To Mars and My Chemical Romance.... And then you get what I would call an "indie" day.... which I like to avoid! Then there's a day which is sort of in-between!

Oooh, if this goes ahead then there will truly be a God if GD and LTJ play on the same day! Although I don't know where ska bands are categorised betwen rock-indie. I assume rock?

I don't know where they'd put it. LTJ probably rock.... No Doubt probably Indie!

No Doubt probably Indie! Ha! Knowing my luck, they probably will So can you go to both, or are you just meant to go to one or the other? I had a look there, weekend tickets are £230 upwards!? Oh boy.

I had a look there, weekend tickets are £230 upwards!? Oh boy. I bought a weekend ticket last year... not doing that again. I hate camping! Nah I'm going to buy a ticket for the day GD play (about £80) and then if there's another really solid day I'll buy another one. I only live about an hour away so I can drive home each night! The line ups rarely rad enough on all three days to want to go.... if by some miracle that did happen I would be forced into buying a weekend ticket.

For example this is last years poster http://www.metalhamm.../03/Reading.jpg and at the top it tells you which day at R and L they are on. Yes it is quite expensive. The trouble is as long as they keep selling it out the higher the prices get Edit: Sorry for butting in on your conversation btw!
Mary711 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 If they would be playing, would it be like for example Saturday in Leeds and Sunday in Reading or only at one of them? How is it usually organized?

I don't think weekend ticket will break the £200 mark (without booking fees)... I think people might start to ask questions... :/ If they would be playing, would it be like for example Saturday in Leeds and Sunday in Reading or only at one of them? How is it usually organized? Last year: Reading -> Leeds F -> S S -> Sun Sun -> Fri

farley drexel hatcher Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I don't know if I buy the 'possible September tour' thing - I suppose there is a chance, but they'd have to announce it really soon, surely they can't announce a tour before the album. Reading and Leeds sounds more likely, or the chance of them doing a promo tour in the UK in September ... I'm kind if just hoping its not true since I'm Not ready financially haha xD
Karen. Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I'm Not ready financially haha xD Me either. If this is true, I really need to get it together. But an arena tour only 2 years after the last one ended is bizarrely quick.
Isabel Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Well the October tour in 2009 was announced in April 2009 and tickets went on sale on the 1st of May. I know that there's a rule for bands who are playing Reading/Leeds that if they are playing headline shows within a certain time before or after the festival, they can only play to certain size crowds in smaller capacity venues (that's what LTJ is going to do this year apparently and what New Found Glory did last year) and I think that's why Green Day played the Ambassador in Dublin (about 1,700 capacity) in August 2004 right after Reading as a promo show for American Idiot. Maybe that's why they are holding off until September for this alleged UK tour...but I'm still a bit skeptical about that, why would they randomly tour in the UK before the US to promote the album? Even if they did, I can't imagine that it'll be a full blown two week long tour or anything.
Sanity Loan Posted February 12, 2012 Author Posted February 12, 2012 I still don`t think they will be playing this year. if they were close to finishing the album and pretty much happy with it, then they might agree to doing this. I cant see them agreeing when they haven`t even started the whole recording process. Playing Reading? Or playing at all? Because Summer Sonic was confirmed to us by management
DecanoLP Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 surely they can't announce a tour before the album. Why not? There were a few bands in 2011 (LInkin Park e.g.) who announced their October tour in the beginning of June with an album announcement (release date: September 10th) following around July. I can totally see that happen here as well, but this Summer Sonic announcement confuses me. My bet: Kick - off in Asia with a tour in Europe in September!
Cori Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 What I don't get, though, if there will be a tour in the UK in September, is why they aren't starting in the US. I'm not sure, but haven't they started in the US for every other tour? Unless they plan on doing some US dates late July/early August, followed by Summer Sonic in Japan, and then kicking off a UK tour at Reading and Leeds.
DoodleBob Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I don't see why starting in the UK would be a problem. They love it there. I mean, they've claimed they were from England before, haven't they? I think starting a tour in a country you love would be something ideal to do. Plus, Green Day is an international band. They don't really need to start the tour in the US if they don't want too.
netty Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Playing Reading? Or playing at all? Because Summer Sonic was confirmed to us by management I`ve changed my mind since then obviously. I had summer sonic confirmed myself as soon as I read it on line. didnt know their management had been asked as well. I`m still no convinced about Reading though. tour from around september/october with the album released just before...yeah I can see that happening now. before christmas I was told they hadn`t recorded anything. doesnt mean they didnt have it all ready to go though. I refuse to get excited about rumours. first gig confirmed = me getting excited!
desertrose Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Green Day mentioned again as headliners. Hoping there will be an official announcement soon! http://www.gigwise.c...s-Festival-2012 Last year an exclusive source told Gigwise that Green Day, Foo Fighters and The Prodigy are set to headline this year's Reading and Leeds festival. . The bands will headline the annual event, which takes place from August 24-26 in Reading and Leeds. As previously reported on Gigwise Melvin Benn, managing director at organiser Festival Republic, revealed that he's already made some "very exciting" bookings for 2012.

Well Foos is pretty much a cert. But the Prodigy are doing Download so I'm not sure about that one.... I thought The Killers was a ahem that was being knocked about?

Like the way Ron Blake was from Dublin and London and Paris and Berlin, etc.
