Good Riddance to a slideshow... really?

(Like many have said before, I can think that's kind of lame without being disappointed)

I'm hoping that bit is comedic, really ... it's something so cheesy I don't see them doing it for real without there being a bit of comedy in it xD

I really hope this is the case

Billie performed last night, this is nothing to be disappointed about at all in my opinion. :P

I get what you all mean though.

I'm not telling people not to bitch, as it's pretty much expected here at this point. What I'm saying is that while some are disappointed because forumers hype it up to be something more, I'm still happy that we get anything. People never learn not to over-hype something and they start expecting too much. It happens with nearly everything that's announced. Rather than do that, and just be disappointed and bitch about it, I just don't expect anything and i'm content with the outcome either way.

We get to see our favorite band in two different things this week, after not seeing much of them for months, and people still find a way to be disappointed. It's the "oh...they didn't play a new album and change the rock world forever" type attitude that bugs me every damn time something is announced.

Alright, getting off my high horse now and back to scrubbing the floors.

Well good riddance is a Green Day song not a Billie Joe song so technically it was a green day performance. It's the same way the song Is performed at a Green Day show. I'm not to bothered about this anyway. I just hope they are back working on their new songs soon cause I want a new album.

SPOILER here's Billie singing "Good Riddance":

THANK you for the video. I loved it. and I really loved the opening photo.

Beautiful, as always :)

Ow, I assumed they would be performing together too :( But hey, the other day the interview was only Billie and then the whole band was there :) -I thought it was weird when that girl on tumblr posted pics of just Billie.

Anyway, Good Riddance is a really beautiful song (something more kind for a graduation and/or funeral like BJ said...), but this was for a prize to comedy not a "tribute" like if the guy was dead or something. I'm not saying is wrong, actually is a beautiful idea, but whoever choosed that song maybe they should've picked something more "joyful", I don't know.

In the end is just like always, from Green Day, expect the unexpected

Here's a few PHOTOS with Billie Joe from the The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for Humor honoring Will Ferrell last night! Can't miss his fuzzy blondeness! Looking for more... anyone else find any?

Holy crap, is it me or is Ben Stiller even shorter than Billie Joe?

Thanks for the video Bec! You're awesome at finding these, as usual!

did billie sound like he had a retainer or something like that in his mouth?

also, for the interview a couple of days ago, we were expecting billie, not green day. For this we were expecting Green Day, not Billie. So i guess everything is balanced out :P

Ben is 5 ft 6.5 in. Billie is 5 ft 7 in. So yes he is shorter. Not as short as Tre

I'm still trying to come down from my weekend Green Day high. First, Mike, Tre and Jason suprised us and showed up with Billie Joe at the Little Steven interview. Then Billie Joe at the Will Ferrell event last night!! I can't wait to see "Good Riddance" next Monday night on PBS!! I decided not to watch the video on-line. It will give me something to look forward to and will help me get through a long work week. We'll see if I can really wait until next Monday without taking a peek at the video. It's very tempting. :P

Thanks for a great weekend Green Day!!

Yeah, and it still says green day. People are going to see that and assume it means a performance because why else would they be there? Not to mention other releases did say they were performing.

I'm not blaming the band or anything, but it just feels like no one can show an ounce of disappointment around here these days without being told they were basically expecting too much.

I was under the impression it was the band, as the press releases said - I didn't just imagine the band playing in my head, they didn't just say Billie's name, especially as we know the band was on that side of the country only 48 hours before the event! Maybe something happened and the band couldn't make it, idk, maybe it wasn't an intentional mislead, I'm not going to claim to know. However, I don't care if people think I'm a bitchy person and "ungrateful," I'm bummed, I was well under the impression it was the band. I mean, I'll still watch, of course, but I'm certainly not as excited as I was.

My only disappointment comes in that I was hoping for a funny routine with song for Will from the band. True, my dream and wish, but it certainly seemed logical since it was a comedy affair for a comedian.

And they did say Green Day would appear. (as does a GDA tweet.) And they didn't. So there is a bit of disappointment in that.

True, seeing anything by any of the band members between albums/tours, is exciting and I am looking forward to seeing the show next weekend.

I'm inclined to agree it's a fair assumption by all of us here on the GDC that putting 'Green Day' on the bill did make it look like they would be playing. Yes, it was assumed and never confirmed, but that doesn't mean that being a little disappointed isn't merited.

I felt disappointed, simply because I was hoping for another East Jesus Nowhere cowbell moment with Will, or at least to see Green Day play together after a while of being out of the spotlight between albums/tours.

I'm still glad I get to see Billie perform, but after the hype we had here, and the surprise of seeing all the band (esp Jason) in NY, it is a little bit of a let-down.

Seriously, I was hoping for some sort of George W. Bush-parody/American Idiot crossover. Come on, that would have been lovely.

Thanks for the video! I enjoyed hearing and watching him sing the song as always of course. But there didn't seem to be any kind of nudge nudge wink wink acknowledgement of what a huge cheesy cliche playing that song with a photo montage is, unless I'm missing something. A bit strange to see such a lack of sense of irony at an event to celebrate comedy. If I'm wrong and it was supposed to be ironic then it was very subtle, it really just came off as a straight performance.

Thanks so much for this video! It was beyond awesome, as always..

I really can't stop watching it.. I'm so gald to see him play live again!

thanks 4 the video! <3

I really loved the performance!!! Can't say no to Billie singing Good Riddance... I'm not sad any more lol Loved the instrumental accompaniment, the accordion sounds good with this song.

Thanks very much for the video =D

Can't wait for the 31st, so that I can get this in mp3 format

Woo, thanks for the video

That's kind of lame, though. Great that we get to see Billie do something new (as in, a new performance) and I liked it and all that, and if Will asked for this/liked it, that's totally awesome. And it's also nice to have a "I hope you had the time of your life" song, but still I think it's kind of lame

I'm not catching anything that may even suggest that it's ironic or comedic (with the exception of the title of the song, or course), so unless there's some sort of inside joke, I think this was actually serious.

I found this kind of strange. The accompaniment meant it was a very straight performance. It was unusual to hear it without any of the usual embellishment on Billie's part. And the way he just sauntered off afterwards. And then the show went on. Doesn't the whole world know that this song ends the night/graduation/event?

Posted

Yes, the event said that Green Day was going to be there, and even the poster at the event said Green Day, but it wasn't until we got the programs that it said Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day. He was still really great, though. As usual. :)

First, thanks to BillieJoezee & SweetVendetta for their kind replies in the other (closed) Mark Twain Awards thread. *HUGS* Just now getting a chance to catch up.

As for the Mark Twain Awards show on PBS, this site has lots of info. If you live in the US, you can check local listings or the "When to Watch" tab on the left side. Looks like it's going to be a 90-minute show.

PBS does have videos on their site, just not sure if they are viewable outside the US. There's a short clip of Jack Black from the awards show there right now. People might want to try this to see if they are able to watch the video. BTW, that vid of Black just showed up on the site today, so maybe if we're lucky, there will be a clip of Billie Joe performing.

Also, PBS does have a YouTube channel. There is a short vid of celebs talking about Will Ferrell here. Billie Joe comes in at about the 29 second mark.

Hope this helps!
