pasalaska Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I'm inclined to agree it's a fair assumption by all of us here on the GDC that putting 'Green Day' on the bill did make it look like they would be playing. Yes, it was assumed and never confirmed, but that doesn't mean that being a little disappointed isn't merited. I felt disappointed, simply because I was hoping for another East Jesus Nowhere cowbell moment with Will, or at least to see Green Day play together after a while of being out of the spotlight between albums/tours. I'm still glad I get to see Billie perform, but after the hype we had here, and the surprise of seeing all the band (esp Jason) in NY, it is a little bit of a let-down.
GreenRanger Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 think I found our particular rumor mill: http://www.greendaycommunity.org/topic/86054-green-day-set-to-perform-at-the-14th-annual-kennedy-center-mark-twain-prize-for-american-humor/ and that was the topic that was linked to on the calendar. It's not hard to see where people were misled. Why does Green Day seem to be so slippery these days anyway? You ask for Billie, you get Green Day, you ask for Green Day, you get Billie. This is the stuff conspiracy theories are made of...
IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I don't really get why people are disappointed about the performance - I know it was originally slated as a Green Day performance, but beyond that, you're only upsetting yourself if you were for some reason expecting a new song or comedy spectacular. It might be a bit crap that Mike & Tre weren't there, but they could have good reasons and we got to see them the other night anyway. It's a bit of a shame but quite frankly, I've got better things to be upset about.
Hermione Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Would've been extremely cool to be there and watch it! BUT other than that, totally lame. Regardless of what I was expecting (which wasn't much tbh), Good Riddance performed with a slideshow of photos is cliched and unbelievably boring considering this was an event to celebrate comedy. I'm not sad or disappointed, I'm just of the opinion that it's lame
greendaytone Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 any video of the performance? Don't think so. We'll have to wait till the 31st for that.
**nobodylikesyou** Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 it was misleading. Green Day = Mike Tre & Billie (and Jason) but i agree fri night was supposed to be billie and we got all three (even if billie didnt let anyone else say a word)... so it all works out.
bat-chen Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Sound like you had a very great time btw, what exactly the award is about? any video of the performance? I was wondering the same thing. I really love to see a video of it.
Hermione Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I yelled out "HI BILLIE!" like an idiot and he raised his eyebrows at me and waved while chewing his gum. So I died. I must just say how awesome this is. Just picturing him doing that I'm not surprised you died
Karen. Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I think it's the fact that Good Riddance to a slideshow is a bit...high school. We just expected something more comedic. That being said, I could never be disappointed by a Billie Joe performance and another chance to analyse how his hair looked.
Tubbie Head Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Kind of disappointing, but I still want to see it =D please more public appearances and you'll be forgiven guys.

I'm hoping that bit is comedic, really ... it's something so cheesy I don't see them doing it for real without there being a bit of comedy in it xD
GDLoT Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Here's a few PHOTOS with Billie Joe from the The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for Humor honoring Will Ferrell last night! Can't miss his fuzzy blondeness! Looking for more... anyone else find any? Credit: pamelaspunch http://www.flickr.com/photos/37232735@N03/6276506328/in/photostream/

Look at that fluffy platinum blond hair and leather jacket amongst the boring hair and suits

Credit: pamelaspunch http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/ is that the stage? oh, I'm not surprised Green Day didn't play the band set I think it's like a formal private party that set for acoustic or something like karaoke thanks for the photos : :good:
Heather. Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I'm hoping that bit is comedic, really ... it's something so cheesy I don't see them doing it for real without there being a bit of comedy in it xD That's true, and would certainly redeem the cheese factor. Maybe all the pictures in the retrospective are of Will on the toilet or something like that.
Hermione Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I'm hoping that bit is comedic, really ... it's something so cheesy I don't see them doing it for real without there being a bit of comedy in it xD Ahh I like this idea. If they did it so it was deliberately super cheesy as a joke then it could be good!

This was this stage: http://yfrog.com/nyl4bvbj Must be a press area or something like that? But iI'm not finding any pro photos posed like this on the usual press photos sites. Hmm...
The Snark Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I didn't mean to come off as bitchy, but I do feel we have the right to be disappointed. I agree with everyone else who's said that when you see Green Day and Will Ferrell are going to be in the same room, thoughts immediately go to the craziness that could happen. And even though Good Riddance is a beautiful song (esp. when it's just Billie and a guitar), the whole slideshow thing makes it seem as if he was performing at a memorial and not an award ceremony. That said, I'm extremely grateful for every little thing the band gives its fans and will most definitely be watching this when it's aired.
Bastard of 1967 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Dang...was hoping against hope we'd see Will bring out that cowbell again.
Karen. Credit: pamelaspunch http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/ Thanks a lot for sharing the link You just can't ignore his hair when you look at one of the pictures he's on. It catches your eye among all the other, a little bit boring looking people!
GDLoT Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Ok, I don't see Billie in this but it shows what this event is like. SPOILER, it's a sneaky almost 6 minutes from the event, "John C. Rielly's letter to William": Peeps who went, Was a clip of GD's SNL "East Jesus Nowhere" with Will on cowbell was at least shown? Since there was some mentions of cowbell in the online articles I've read. Edit: Nevermind, Shannon just answered my question on fb: "Nope, but most of the original skit w/ Chris Walken & just the Andy Samberg suggestion of letting Will know how much you love the cowbell skit. BJ & Good Riddance was really the only GD thing."
Katarina. Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I'm hoping that bit is comedic, really ... it's something so cheesy I don't see them doing it for real without there being a bit of comedy in it xD That would make it better actually, I hope that's true! At least a picture of Will with the cowbell while GD plays EJN. And then Billie singing "It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.."
jetsrule128 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 since it's being aired on the 31st he should have worn a costume
