KilljoyFromDetroit Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I love Green Day and Blink 182, they're my two favorite bands, and I would not label either of them as pop punk. Of course Green Day was first, and i love how mark jokes about it. Some of Blinks new stuff is more pop punk, but they are still punk rock based on everything before. Green Day and Blink 182 are both great punk rock bands
Khris Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 i think Green Day is their own kind of punk although i can hear punk AS WELL as some pop influences in their pre-American Idiot material. who cares if they are punk or pop-punk, its awesome music. enjoy it.
Scentless Apprentice Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 I used to like Blink-182, until i realized how shitty they are. I mean, I do like maybe two of their albums, but they are quite possibly the worst live band of all time. I think it's funny how people consider The Ramones punk and Green Day "pop"-punk hahaha The Ramones were one of the poppiest sounding bands of all time. But they were never labeled as a sellouts? People are so full of shit, born and raised byhypocrites. I digress. Blink-182 has absolutely zero punk in them whatsoever. Green Day grew up in a punk scene, even if their punk music progressed into something of greater magnitude. Fuck Blink-182. And fuck the Blink-182 fans who think they're better than they actually are. Green Day > in every possible way.
Smoothed Out Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 My dad was watching that programme when Mark was on it and I walked in half way through, I was like, "what the hell's Mark Hoppus doing on there? " I enjoyed the interview though, I don't even bother about the whole Blink/GD thing anymore, what's the point? It's exhausted itself in my opinion
Hermione Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Somehow I've only just watched this. First of all what a fucking stupid question. They obviously did minimal research, heard that there was some kind of comparison/rivalry between the bands, and for some reason assumed the rivalry was over who started pop punk. Which of course isn't the case since everyone knows Green Day came years before Blink. Nonsensical, pointless question. He gave a good and correct answer to it though. Green Day is punk, not pop punk. Green Day have had a huge amount of pop in their sound since day one, they've never been afraid of having pop influences in their music. Have you heard their first album? It's full of sappy love songs not hardcore punk haha. In the early days they often weren't allowed to play at Gilman because they were considered too pop. Every one of their albums is full of catchy, poppy hooks. None of this is a bad thing though! "Pop punk" isn't an insult and it doesn't mean they're any less punk either, it's just a more precise way to describe how their music sounds than the broader category "punk" which they also fall into.
koolkev Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Fuck You, Mr. Hoppus. I believe you copied Green Day to begin with.Haha page own

AfterShock Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 IMO, Green Day has more "pop" than "punk." I wouldn't define them as punk...but not pop either. I guess this is why the "Alternative" category exists
