groundpatty Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 I think Green Day has done a much better job at maintaining a great relationship with the fans, which has helped keep them as a 'bigger' band than Blink-182. They play shows EVERYWHERE, and when they announce big plans, they actually go through with it without insane delays or anything (i.e. AI Musical). Meanwhile, Blink and the post-breakup projects (+44 and AVA) have cancelled huge tours last-second, postpone album releases multiple times, all this crazy stuff. Right before Blink's first reunion tour in 09, they said they would release their first new song in 6 years, "Up All Night". That song didn't see the light of day until a few months ago, 2 years later. AVA said they were planning on releasing a movie back when "We Don't Need to Whisper" came out in 2006, and that movie didn't see theaters until 2011. So I guess it's good they're willing to wait to make sure the final product is good, just keep it to yourselves, so fans aren't waiting multiple YEARS for it to see the light of day. And being a little biased here, Green Day has played in New Orleans 4 total times, and recorded "The Saints Are Coming" for a charity dedicated to the area. Blink-182 are about to play here next month, but haven't done so in 13 years. Obviously not every city will get to have special treatment like New Orleans did with Green Day, but Billie playing "Minnesota Girl" just for Minnesota is another example of how well GD caters to their fanbase. Blink's fanbase is pretty much just expected to receive what they are dealt.
miragots Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 I just saw Blink/My Chemical Romance in Wheatland last Sunday, and they were both a whole lot better than I thought they would be. But, blink still doesn't compare to the talent that Green Day has. Mark and Tom's vocals definitely aren't as good live as they are on the album, when Billie's voice sounds almost identical to Green Day's albums. Travis is an amazing drummer and has a lot of drum solos, which I think Tre should do a little more often, because he's really great. And Mike is an amazing bass player, better than blink's, I think. So, Blink 182 vs. Green Day= GREEN DAY ALL THE WAY ;P
Scentless Apprentice Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Dookie is the only reason anyone knows who Blink-182 is; they just rode Green Day's coattails of success. They are the worst live band I have ever heard. All of my friends love Blink and think Green Day is gay. Because they wore eyeliner during American Idiot? Because no one in punk music has ever done that before. Or they became too political... because no one in punk music has ever sang about the government either, right?. Green Day is all around better than Blink. How about we start a thread like this on blink182community.org? Oh wait, they suck too much to have this many loyal fans. Two years of somewhat success doesn't make them a great band. Green Day has lasted +23 years and still going strong.
beejeezee Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I'm not really sure. All I know is we have the better fanbase.
FenderDude Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 How can you even compare Blink to Green day? Green Day paved the way for this genre. Where were Blink in 1994? The rode on the wave Green Day made. To me they were and have always been a rip off band. They are not even in the same league as Green Day. I have never understood why people listen to Blink when there is Green Day. What have Blink, the copy band, have to offer that Green Day doesnt have? When I compare BJ to other songwriters I think of Springsteen and Dylan. When I think of Blink I think of Bieber. But I guess most GD fans now days are 12 year old girls scream "IIIII loooove you biiilliee"...yack. Go listen to Backstreet Boys or something.
GreenDayisAmazing Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I like Blink alot, but I love Green Day. I saw Blink in concert a few weeks ago and they were good, but Green Day is amazing live. Alot of people think I just say Green Day is amazing live because they are my favorite band, but all of us who have seen them know they really are amazing live. Blink played for about 1 hour 30-45 mins with no encor. Green Day played almost 3, GD and Blink can't even be compared with live performances. Out of my FB friends 17 liked GD and 9 liked Blink in their music. I don't know how it is to meet GD, but I won a meet and greet with Blink and it kinda sucked it was more of a sign my picture and leave kind of thing. We couldn't take any sort of pictures if they even saw our phones we were kicked out we couldn't touch the band ask them questions nothing in fact they gave us a pic it was the only thing that could be signed and we couldn't even hand it to them security had to. I'm not sure if all meet and greets are like that, but none the bands I've meet have ever had any rule like that. Zia says you can take pics of the band but not with them thats as strict as ive seen it be with other bands.
Kid A Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I envy people here who has real friends that are greenday fan. My friends like shit songs from today (Justin B, Lady Gaga etc).
bat-chen Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The only one who close to me and love Green Day as much as I am is my sister and she a member here. I have a friend that like some of their songs but that's it. It's a bit sad and I wish it wasn't like that and about Blink, I used to like them but not anymore and non of my friends like them.
MariaWhereDidYouGo? Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I used to love Blink, now I only like them. Their jokes annoy me sometimes. And I never relate to their songs as I do with Green Day. With Green Day I feel that I'm not alone, they're always there with me and this is something that never happened to me with Blink.
Guest Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I feel Green Day has a bigger fanbase because, Green Day likes to interact with the fans, but blink-182. They get on stage. Sing a song, insult each other, sing a song, yell vagina and penis, insult someone in the crowd, sing a song, etc. And Green Day LOVES to perform cause you all obviously know how long Green Day puts a show and always changes the set. blink on the other hand sticks to a setlist for the WHOLE tour. And never passes the 90 minute mark. Even though I love Tom, Mark, and Travis. I gotta say that I'm Pro-Green Day. I can totally tell cause I started here on GDC and everyone was soooo nice and chill, but when I joined the blink fourms or AVA (Angels and Airwaves). They aruge waaaay too much. I left cause it was waaay too much. (Makes sense cause Tom and Mark always fought/ still fight ? O: ) EDIT: Plus, the majority of blink-182's songs reach out to a High School fanbase cause it dealt with troubles of a teenagers. Even though Green Day had songs about Drugs or Masturbating. You can tell that every album they grew up and the songs all had different meanings. (I bet Im just blabbering nonsense now) It's just that Green Day's music can relate to more people or have a..for lack of a better term. Universal meaning ? Yknow ? Cause Yknow ? Yknow ? I'm not trying to bash blink. I love em to death. I just don't think I'll love them anymore while I'm 20. Maybe AVA. Definately Green Day. but still...
