Smoothed Out Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I just presumed that Blink have a bit of an on/off relationship with their fans as they do within the band, so with the new album it's bound to be `the next best thing`...whether it'll last (which I doubt) is another thing.
Clayish Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Blink 182 wouldn't be as successful without Green Day. Blink was more popular when they toured together, since Green Day was pretty much opening for them on the pop-punk disaster tour, but when AI came out, there was no contest. I actually get mad when people say blink is a better band than Green Day. I'm not talking about musical opinion, but an ACTUAL band. Tom delonge destroyed the band once, they are horrific live, they still make fart/bad jokes on stage, and without Green Day, they wouldn't be where they are today. Sorry for the rant hahahah
Dylan. Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Blink 182 are worse than MCR live. That's not an opinion. That's a fucking fact. I read it on the internet. So, it's goddamn gospel.
charlatans&saints Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Blink is ok, i'm not really a huge fan, it's really that i just don't have respect for them. they don't really seem to be trying as a band. i went to a concert of theirs a couple weeks ago and i wasnt that impressed, although if nothing else their music was fun to dance too. Green Day is always pushing themselves musically and is commited to staying together as a band. at the blink concert one of the singers said they had been a band for 20 years. i feel like saying that was cheating, it just happened that they formed a band 20 years ago, but in between then and now they have broken up, and formed other bands that aren't just sideprojects. and now they are probably broke because they havent created anything new in a while so they decided to recreate blink 182, and to me there new stuff just sounds like a crappy version of their old stuff. it seems like they know they have a cache of old songs that people will pay to see so now blink doesnt have to create anything new if they dont want to. thats one aspect of Green Day that i have a lot of respect for, they also have tons of old songs that they could use and could just go around playing those, but it seems to me that Green Day isnt in it for the money (although i'm sure that was a very nice side effect for them) but it really is about the music. it amused me that almost all of the people at the concert were in their late 20's, there were barely any teenagers at all, it just seemed like a bunch of people that were trying to relive there youth. i have 2 people that love Green Day almost as much as me: my sister and my best friend. however my sister has been a fan since AI and i've been a fan since 21CBD, so she has gotten past the obsesssive stage, (she can contain herself bettter at least) so any time i try and tell her something new i learned, she's known it for years, so i really cant talk to her. my friend doesnt seem to want to talk about them as much as i do. i could talk for days, but she doesnt keep up on the news like i do, so i can't discuss something, i have to tell her first, then after she doesnt really have much to say. i have seen a couple people post lyrics on fb, but usually they are out of context and i get the feeling the person doesnt really know what was happening in the song. most people dont know that i am thinking about Green Day pretty much every moment of the day, but places like here have helped me realize that i'm not the only one that does some crazy stuff with out realizing it
Dylan. Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 ^ You make a really good point. They may have "been a band" for 20 years, but they haven't actually been together for all of that time. They were broken up for about 6 years of that.
mechanicalman Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I say we invade a Blink-182 forum and kick their asses. Who's with me?
The Snark Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 i have 2 people that love Green Day almost as much as me: my sister and my best friend. however my sister has been a fan since AI and i've been a fan since 21CBD, so she has gotten past the obsesssive stage, (she can contain herself bettter at least) so any time i try and tell her something new i learned, she's known it for years, so i really cant talk to her. my friend doesnt seem to want to talk about them as much as i do. i could talk for days, but she doesnt keep up on the news like i do, so i can't discuss something, i have to tell her first, then after she doesnt really have much to say. i have seen a couple people post lyrics on fb, but usually they are out of context and i get the feeling the person doesnt really know what was happening in the song. most people dont know that i am thinking about Green Day pretty much every moment of the day, but places like here have helped me realize that i'm not the only one that does some crazy stuff with out realizing it Hell, after 17 years, I can barely contain myself at times.
Clockwise Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Blink 182 are worse than MCR live. That's not an opinion. That's a fucking fact. I read it on the internet. So, it's goddamn gospel. I think that's true, but they're not bad live at all. The new blink album is wonderful, best one yet.
Slappy. Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Where I live, it seems like a lot of people 'like' Blink 182 probably more than Green Day, but when I say like I mean they 'like' them, but along side many other bands...I don't think I've ever met anyone who is a diehard blink fan. Whereas I think Green Day have a lot of hardcore fans as apposed to people just saying they 'like' them. That probably makes no sense but I know what I mean in my head! :whaa:
youngreendayvet Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Basically most of my friends (and the people who aren't, but I'm friends with on fb) love Blink. A lot. They post lyrics, including Angels and Airwaves, videos, make statuses about how fucking awesome they are, have in-depth conversations about what they like the most, pretty much jizz all over the place all over this band. There must be 20 of them, I like blink but my freinds do that too and its making them get very old VERY quick to me. when they do that it makes me think "whats gd chopped liver?". oh and some of my freinds do that cuz the one "cool kid" likes blink and that want to suck his cock
LauraG Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I listen to Blink, but not as much as Green Day. They do have some good catchy songs, but that's about it, at least for me. I find it really difficult to relate to their songs 'cause most of them seem like empty. And that's something I could never say about GD! And don't worry about which band is bigger or more successful. Look, today we're celebrating the anniversary of a masterpiece called American Idiot, and Blink is nowhere near that!
QueenOfSuburbia Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Actually I like Blink! I went to their show at montreal this summer ans it wasn't bad! Of course it's not like a Green Day concert, I mean NO ONE can give a great show like Green Day does but still, Blink was ok. But I like better their music than seing them live. In my real life, no one loves Green Day as much as I do! last year, I found a friend who is a fan too, I went to the show with her, but I know she doesn't loves them like I do. And I never see random status with Green Day lyrics in it. I'm the only one to do it! It's ok I guess!
Malleus Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Where I live, it seems like a lot of people 'like' Blink 182 probably more than Green Day, but when I say like I mean they 'like' them, but along side many other bands...I don't think I've ever met anyone who is a diehard blink fan. Whereas I think Green Day have a lot of hardcore fans as apposed to people just saying they 'like' them. That probably makes no sense but I know what I mean in my head! :whaa: This makes a lot of sense and I agree with it. I know a few people who absolutely LOVE Green Day and only one who absolutely loves Blink, but a lot of people who like Blink. I think they're one of the greatest bands around and I've been listening to them for as long as I have Green Day, but not as much. I have been recently though with Neighborhoods and what not and I put them up there with Green Day. Two best punk bands in my mind.
Dylan. Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 So, I have a question. Are the recordings currently on Youtube of the new album good quality? Because if they are...I am not liking what I hear so far.
KilljoyFromDetroit Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I love both Green Day and Blink, but Blink is just getting so much popularity right now because they haven't released an album in what is it, like 7 years? and they're finally coming out with one, so thats what the whole buzz around Blink is about. Pretty much no one that i know likes either Blink or Green Day, so i dont see it as much where i am. Green Day will always be bigger than Blink, just wait until Green Day puts out another album.
porksoda Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Just about everyone I know likes Blink 182 more than Green Day, and I really think it's because Blink is a younger band. They hit major popularity when a lot of this generation was just starting to get into music. Green Day first got popular when a lot of us were just born, or before and only recently hit popularity again with American Idiot, and I think that turned off a lot of people to the band, almost as much as it turned people onto the band.
Juicebox Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I love both Green Day and Blink, but Blink is just getting so much popularity right now because they haven't released an album in what is it, like 7 years? and they're finally coming out with one, so thats what the whole buzz around Blink is about. I agree
bluefloyd.94 Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Blink are just bigger atm because of the new album and their on tour
Kristen M Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I love blink-182, Green Day is a gazillion times better in my opinion. I've seen both bands in concert and Green Day puts on a way better show. That being said I think blink deserves all the popularity they're getting recently. It seems to me that they're really ready to be a great band again after their break up, and Neighborhoods is great!
Vespertine Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I think Blink-182 is just okay. I like a few of their songs and they've been part of my childhood/preadolescence. My friends kind of like Green Day.. especifically the songs that are really easy to like: WMUWSE, Good Riddance and 21 Guns. They're not huge Green Day fans or anything, but... And, as far as I know, they don't like Blink.
Clayish Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I was on their forum, and I said that the Self-Titled album was not perfect, but great. Multiple people called me a fag....... That shows Blink 182's fan base.
YORUGUA Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Bands like Blink or SUm 41 or Good Charlotte are copys of Green Day´s best in 94 when Dookie came out... so... the pòsture, the humor, the videos, the acttitud was all about Green Day... no way Blink is better than them... never was and never be cause those bands has not the talent to be better than Green Day... that´s it
Cre Tool. Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 I actually kinda like Blink, but here, in my friends, no one has EVER heard the name Blink-182. I know, lame friends.
Viva_La_Revolution! Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 I agree with what most people said, Green Day's bigger, but Blink's relising an album in (two days?) and they're headlining the Honda Civic Tour, so they have alot going on right now, so they're going to be talked about more
