Is renewing on Idiot Club worth it?

^ yeah, everybody's always complaining about the Idiot Club, but after winning early entry to Ullevaal, I just can't

I agree though, that it might be a good idea to wait to renew until something is actually happening that is worth paying for.

I am a member at the mo and there isn't a lot happenning. When it comes round to renewing I probably will just cos I don't want to miss anything! I would be annoyed if for once I didn't renew then something happens...but I guess you could just join again at that point.

I wouldn't renew until they offer something like early entry for the concerts again. It's kinda lame and this place is way more active.

just as loads of us are saying it's not worth joining look what happens!

Although this is only useful if you live in California oh and are over 21!

I haven't renewed mine this year but I was thinking of doing so since the musical's touring but I still question if I should or not. =/

Hah, that's the first thing I thought of too.

Yeah, don't tell me that's a coincidence

That would be a BIG YES. I am at a Green Day show right now because of the Idiot Club with Billie Joe walking around chilling talking to all of us.

lol I'm renewing mine ASAP.

True . But even with THAT short notice anyone over 21 in California who wasn't a member could've just signed up last night, takes a couple of minutes and you're instantly a member. So still never any need to sign up until they actually announce something :P

IC's little publicity stunt last night definitely worked, because now I'm thinking it would be smart to renew. Oh clever, clever.

That makes sense for Califorians (or Northern Californians!), but not for me nor many others I afraid.

Although, I'm pretty impressed with them for coming up with this idea!

Green Day was clever to only have the tickets available on idiot club, think about how many new members they probably have now...

i honestly think they did that just to weed out randomers who figured "hey, Green Day's playing a show tonight, let's go!" I feel like that sorta thing happened at the Tiki Bar show and this time they wanted to keep the madness to a minimum. They wanted to make sure it was real, hardcore fans and not just some dudes off the street.

I hadn`t really thought about this being an IC only thing but when you put it like that, plus the fact it was a "fan appreciation" night it was a really nice thing they did for the Idiot Club. especially with the amount of people who slag the IC off all the time and they have never actually said anything about it themselves for a long time. Plus there has been people who have been to previous small events who have been labelled as non-fans as it were.

i was a member back in 1995 when you DIDN't have to renew. I got a shirt and a ton of shit. And i used to get christmas postcards once a year- for ages. Up until Warning, at least...

This.

I still have some of the stuff they used to send out, the letters and all. I know for sure I still have my green membership card. It came to mind the other day about how they were giving out 20 tickets to IC members... If I lived there, I seriously would have showed up with my 90's lifetime membership card at the door and seen if they would have let me in. As for notice of ticket sales, I have only ever gone for general admission and never been more than like 5th in line. Yes, the first time we went to a show, my now-wife didn't understand why we had to be there at 7am... but... for a Green Day concert, this is how it's going to be. I re-joined when they launched the IC again for the second time, but never renewed after the first year. Originally back in the day I got everything from greenday.net and then migrated here. Nothing I don't find out immediately.

It would be funny if the IC people saw this thread and saw how people saying it wasn't worth it to renew. so they came up with the contest for the secret show to drive up membership cause after that who wouldn't renew their membership

I haven't renewed in 5 years.

Anything thing cool that the IC gets, we'll get eventually.

Was a member starting in April 09 for a year and haven't renewed. I'll definitely consider renewing once they announce the new album/tour.

I wish they sent letters in the mail like the other person said they used to, before internet. That would be freakin sweet.

I'll have to make sure I complain about it more often

Ha ha! That's exactly what I was thinking. Someone saw all the complaints from IC members who didn't get Tiki Bar tickets on top of all the people complaining they wouldn't renew their membership because there wasn't any point to it, so they did this just for the IC members to drive up membership and keep people from leaving permanently. Just a guess of course, but a mighty big coincidence.I wonder if they'll pay attention to join dates when they do this again, to make sure the real members, and not just the ones who join to take advantage of whatever promotion's going on at the time, are the ones who benefit from it.Either way, it's pointless for me, since Green Day doesn't do anything even remotely close to the Gulf Coast (unless you count that New Orleans Saints thing five years ago) and the updates, news and forums are more active on GDC.

I doubt they'd ever do that, they want people to join and that's why they do promotions :D

Plus I don't think there's anything wrong with joining just for promotions. They lie about what they're offering on the sign up page, apart from promotions like this the only thing the majority of members will get for their money is the forum. It would be wrong if people had to part with $20 every year just to have any chance of taking part in rare cool things like this, when most likely nothing will even happen that they're eligible to take part in. If that was the case they could get away with doing nothing for years and people would still pay just out of fear of missing out. Better that we have the option of joining if and when they actually deliver something that we consider worth the money.

Great point. When I found out about and joined GDC, I wondered why Idiot Club even existed and why they didn't just merge it with GDA/GDC, because they definitely lie about the benefits, especially for people outside California, and GDA/GDC just seems, I don't know, more credible?

Yeah, I guess because GDA/GDC is run by fans and not charging it's always gonna be more credible. The IC definitely has it's good points (and the mods and people on the forum are great), but I think it's best if we can pick and choose when to sign up for them haha.

Yeah, I also think the IC is less credible because it's run by what I equate to a property management company. A corporation emotionally removed from the property whose sole purpose is to collect the fees, who also manages the properties of other competing clients. So, basically, they don't give a shit.
