placenta Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 While I do support this initiative, I do think there´s something strange going on, as one of the listed (signed) items is actually not even owned by the seller. I know this, because I have it - and bought it from the seller on eBay in february, for 81$. Check out the following item listed by GDATW on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/GREEN-BILLIE-ARMSTRONG-AUTOGRAPHED-SMOOTH/dp/B005534XIW/ref=sr_1_37?ie=UTF8&m=A2FY1Q1XSV8I0L&s=generic&qid=1317762812&sr=1-37 Look closely at the picture, and then have a look at the same item from my collection (picture just taken, with a note with my nick on it as proof): http://www.greendaycollector.com/temp/kerplunk.jpg Compare the signatures, they´re 100% the same - both in placement and accuracy, so this is actually a listing of a item that is not owned by the seller anymore. Please note: I´m not drawing any conclusions here, just saying that there´s something strange going on.
greendaytone Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 I've asked Dawn to see if she can clarify for us.
mallorymaloney Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Any news on this? I second this question.
placenta Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I see that the same item (that they do not own, but is in my collection) is currently listed on eBay as well: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GREEN-DAY-39-SMOOTH-AUTOGRAPHED-BILLIE-JOE-ARMSTRONG-COA-/230682999753?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item35b5c73bc9 This does not really build trustworthiness to the charity...
Fuzz Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I'll see if there's any updates about what's going on here. A bit odd that items are listed on both Amazon and eBay at the same time - not to mention that we're not even sure why it was listed on either one in the first place.
anarchistgirlscout Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Woah - you don't need $3500 for a lawyer to be a non-profit. I sit on a board of an organization that is getting its non-profit status currently. The paperwork is intense, but it's nothing you can't figure out yourself. Also, the bank we utilize has helped us tremendously with the financial reports side - I'm sure any other bank would be obligated to do the same. We're nearly done with the process (which is pretty long and ridiculous), but we're living proof that you don't have to spend a lot to get it done. I think most people think that it is beyond their understanding when they get the fat stack of paperwork to fill out, but it really isn't.
greendaytone Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I haven't heard anything back from Dawn yet unfortunately. I'll follow up.
Tripe Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I'm following this situation with interest as well.
Fuzz Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 So right now we're waiting for a response from Dawn. If we don't hear anything back, I think we're gonna go ahead and close this thread so that more people don't see the sales until we've figured out whats going on. I'm a bit wary about advertising further on GDC without anymore info. Unfortunately we just don't know what's going on.
mallorymaloney Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 No one's received any of their GDATW prizes yet, either ... And that was supposed to be done months ago.
Fuzz Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 No one's received any of their GDATW prizes yet, either ... And that was supposed to be done months ago. I know people have received stuff, just not sure how many.
mallorymaloney Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Ah, my bad. To reword my last post: Everyone I know of who was involved with the contest haven't received their prizes yet.
