Honestly, they should keep 21st CB as opening song. It's such a great song to get the crowd going nuts.

But... no.

I want new songs to open. It's always like that anyway.

I think Tre should make another song and have Billie play the drums again

Other than that, I really hope they play some older stuff and stop playing the singles from AI and some of 21st CB. Of course their GREAT songs but they're so overplayed. I would love to hear stuff from Insomniac. That record is so underrated! and they should play in at least every capital of each state/province and major country. It may be a bit too much but it would really help for some people

I just hope they come to south america again! :)

and about the shows I don't know how they'll surprise us, maybe again a band will be set up in the middle of a songs, maybe they won't bring anybody on stage or maybe everybody will be there! hahahaaaha

who else here thinks Tre should make a solo record? *raises hand*

that would be funny as hell. Dude is nuts. Was anybody else in Hartford in 2009 (xl center) when somebody shouted at Billie to "let tre sing" and he did? That was freaking hilarious. I hadn't seen him do that since like, 1995... I remember just watching Mike and the crew crack the fuck up the entire time.

Also, it may or may not happen, b/c it's a small city, but if they ever played the arena in Springfield MA again, it would be like things coming full circle for me... That was the first time i saw them and only my 2nd concert (1995). It wasn't as good of a show as the ones in more recent years (they've gotten so amazingly better) but it was pretty fucking exciting and i was crammed against the barrier the whole time :). I'm pretty sure they played "Road to Acceptance." Wow :). I think i have the setlist written down somewhere, god knows where. I mean, they can play anywhere, they always do CT or MA and i don't mind driving wherever, but i drive by the springfield civic center (the MassMutual Center?) once a week and it still makes me smile to this day, fifteen years later...

And you know what else? I freaking miss the song Paper Lanterns. That's a damn good song and they used to always play it and it's totally faded out of favor. I mean, they can play whatever they want and it'll be good, but Paper Lanterns is a freaking classic.

I actually don't think that much of the 21st CB stuff will stick, especially in comparison to American Idiot. Those songs are all centred around a specific context, and a lot of them don't stand as well on their own. Also, when I saw them live in New Zealand at the end of 2009, they didn't get such a good response from the crowd. People were going mental for American Idiot and Dookie, and all of their old classics, but their was a noticeable drop in tone when they brought out their new stuff. And that was toward the end of the tour.

Tre singing is such a treat . So funny, and it's funny seeing Billie grinning away on the drums too. Definitely one of the highlights of the show when he does it, long may the tradition continue.

And I totally agree about Paper Lanterns! I didn't see them live until 2009 so I've never seen them do it (must've been awesome to see them do it in 1995!), but I've watched so many videos of old Green Day shows I think of the drums and bass of it as, like, the theme tune of a Green Day show. Love how they always made it go on so long and how Billie always messed around during it while Mike and Tre continued playing in the background. I'd love to see it live myself. They did play it a couple of times on the last tour so fingers crossed for next time.

I've never seen Green Day live, so I'll be happy with basically anything  But one thing that I hope that doesn't change was the interaction they had with the fans during the 21stCB tour. As for the setlists... well, some shows (I think some of the 2009 leg) had pretty much the same setlist with the exception of some songs, but then the next leg was completely different, they played lots of old ones, took more fan requests, etc. So yeah, I'm hoping for variety in the setlist. As for the songs themselves, doesn't matter because I like said in the beginning of the post they could play anything and I'd be the happiest person on Earth, haha.

Well,I expect an Italy tour,at least 1 date in every single italian city, after Heineken last year, you know. Seriously, all I ask for is a date in Italy, then I'll be the happiest person on earth.

But... no.

I want new songs to open. It's always like that anyway.

Actually, thats not always been true. During the Nimrod tour, they would often open with Welcome to Paradise, a song from 3 albums back.

Where they play shows depends on how many records they sell in each country though. :) If they sold a lot of records in Easter Europe they would have played more shows there.

I'd love to see them in a small bar or something like that, but I think many people want to see them and it's not fair on them that just 100 fans (or even less) can get a ticket, anyway, I love what they do when they play in stadiums, even if they're not able to do jumps from the stage and things like that. By the way, one thing that I'd love to see on the next world tour is more concerts on Europe, last time they just came to 2 cities on Spain :(

I don't really have any expectations as such, because I don't really think it matters what we think it's what the band want.

But practically it would have to be arenas and stadiums, as bars and small clubs would cause chaos and would generally be a royal pain in the ass to get into. Fine for things like the Tiki Bar show for exhibiting new material to keep the live cogs running...but they literally have no escape from larger venues during a world wide tour. As for the production, looking at the Tiki show, maybe they are going to take a risk and strip it back to match the fresher sound or they may have just appeared like that due to it being such a relaxed and intimate environment. Personally, I would like them to keep the `spectacal` aspect about the live show, because afterall that's what they are known for. Along with the traditions like Hey Ho and KFAD medleys...at the end of the day it's not up to us and we'll have to wait and see

I agree with most of that. They can escape larger venues if they want though, if they do a Foxboro show. The different name makes ALL the difference. When they played in London across town a couple of hours after a Green Day show there was no chaos and the show was only half full. And that's even with them announcing it on greenday.com and Billie talking about it onstage at the Green Day show. All they've gotta do is play under the name Foxboro Hot Tubs instead of Green Day and they can slot small shows in if they feel like it. I hope they get the urge to do a few shows like that next time! The logistics of organizing it must be a bit of a nightmare but I think they enjoy it enough that they might.

To the people who suggested Green Day doing something like the U2 360 tour, I have 3 words for you: So. Frickin'. Brilliant. I had the opportunity to see U2 a total of 3 times live on that stage, and it was really incredible. The stage gets a lot more audience interaction, which we know is something that Green Day enjoys doing. Even though it was incredible, I felt the U2 didn't quite use it to its *true* potential. Don't get me wrong, their concerts were so amazing, but they didn't do what I would have imagined doing with that stage.

Now, for why I brought this up again, Green Day on that stage would be awesome. As much as Billie Joe likes to run around, it would be perfect for him. Plus, they could truly play to the entire crowd that way. Trust me, a show with Green Day on the Claw would be something truly unforgettable.

As for my expectations for the next tour, in terms of older songs, I'm pretty sure that they'll stick with American Idiot and Holiday, and 21st Century Breakdown and Know Your Enemy. I could also see them playing Minority and Longview a lot, like they always seem to have. Plus they'll go with some of the other old favorites.

Posted

first of all they should tour in places were they never been in before !!

and hey what's the use of that stage set up ??? it look scary thing, like big beast.

Posted

One other expectation I have is that they keep playing their hits from the pre-American Idiot era. I also hope they do an equal balance of stuff from AI and 21st Century Breakdown.

Posted

I dunno if this idea would work, but they'd play in a city for 2 nights. One night would be for old stuff, 1,039/Smooted Out to Warning, and the next night for American Idiot to songs from the newest album, with one or two old songs to end the set or something.

Posted

As nice as that sounds, it could never happen. Most people don't go to both concerts, and most people would be expecting to hear the hits every night.

Also, 1039--Warning = too wide. If this would ever happen and you had to split it in two, you gotta go Nimrod-21CB for night 2, and that's asking for a lot. Really, they just need to do a 4 night stand, 2 albums a night. :whistle

Posted

and fans would inevitably leave one show or the other pissed off because they didn't know the plan and can't believe they skipped American Idiot and 21 Guns in favor of a bunch of songs that "no one knows."

I see what you did there :eyebrows:

21CB is really not that great of an opener. It's a damn ballad. Granted, it has a Bohemian Rhapsody-esque freak-out at the end of the song, but generally speaking, one should not open with a ballad. Besides, Green Day has (for the most part) always preferred opening with a new song.

"

Definitely wouldn't call 21CB a ballad...

I think it worked as a great opener for the last two tours, but it would just be sort of odd as the opener after a new album comes out. I'd definitely expect them to open with a new song.

They should open with Dominated Love Slave

I always thought Brain Stew would make a great opener.... :sherlock:

and Tre should release a solo album.

i have never been one to support band members going out on solo ventures, but this would be classic. He'd probably be banned from... everywhere, but that shit would be funny.

How is that something to complain about?
