KerplunkxCreak Posted August 25, 2011 Author Posted August 25, 2011 Yeah the setlist is very improtant, and actually in Spain they didn't play songs that we were really hoping to listen to, but anyways, what I'm also curious about is that they are gonna keep getting that involved with the audience, as this new album could be more Rock&Roll and everything... I mean, Billie awlays knew how to talk to the audience and how to do a great sho, but despite of it, before the 21st Century Breakdown show, they only picked people to go on stage in songs like JOS or Knowledge. However, this year they've been picking people for singing Longview, to be 'saved' in EJN , to dance during Give me Novacaine and to play JOS... I'm curious if they are gonna stick to this, or if they'll add new things to do on stage with ome lucky ones! Hope I can get the chance next time haha
letterbomb_19 Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I´d LOVE to see Green Day playing in a small club. in my homecountry is a venue, called Arena. Green Day actually played there during the Dookie tour. I´d love to see them playing there. it fits for 1500 people. awesome night. maybe it´s just a thing for small clubs (I´ve seen some bands playing in smaller culbs during the last few months ) ) but if Green Day would play a gig like U2´s 360°... horrible!!! it would mean that A F***ING LOT OF people like Green Day (and that´s also good), but I mean 100.000 people in one stadium? Green Day IS a big band, no matter, and honestly, they deserve it more than anyone else. and as a big band, you can only play in bigger venues, because of the many fans. so big venues are okay, but like U2 the 360°, I really hope Green Day won´t do that.
Boston Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I have a funny feeling that we could see less backing musicians on the next tour. My indications from the Tiki Bar show are that the new album will be just straight up, balls out rock and roll with the 4 guys playing to each other with no fancy gimmicks. I also think we could see an end to the band dressing up for shows, as in for the last two tours they have worn a uniform of sorts on stage. This being another gimmick could be stripped down (quite literally) I don't think they'll ever be able to tone down the arena-esque features of their show simply because they're enormous. I also don't think they'll start dressing like slobs again, just because they're grown men now. I kind of hope that the whole black shirt and tie thing is done, though. I still anticipate lots of backup musicians, lots of gimmicks, but less 21CB and more new stuff. I'm also thinking (and hoping, tbh) less fans on stage. It takes up so much time. Unless of course I'm the fan on stage. That changes everything.
Ashley! Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I'm also thinking (and hoping, tbh) less fans on stage. It takes up so much time. Unless of course I'm the fan on stage. That changes everything. That's actually why I like so many fans on stage. Yes it takes a lot of time, but those lucky people got to be on stage with Green Day, and probably had the best night of their lives because of it. I think it's great that they do that for so many people. I dont know if that makes any sense, I'm having a hard time writing how I feel about the fans on stage situation...
Heather. Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I think I'd like them to do ONE concert 360-like and then watch a DVD of it. A tour itself would be kinda nuts. What I'm Reaaaaaaally hoping is to hear more from Mike this tour. Billie did say he wants Mike to do more songwriting, and maybe that's happening! And by "hear from Mike" I mean singing, but I also mean audience interaction and talking. And no, I don't think they will have less backing musicians. Even if the new stuff is simple four-guy rock, they'll still be playing their oldies and those will require others.

Ben I Come Around Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Im also wondering about what songs they'd have to drop. I just think each show will have quite big setlist changes, maybe if they do 2 shows at the same venue, they'll cut alot out of the first night and add different stuff for the second? I bet they will stuggle writing the setlist, aslong as they dont scrap Nice guys finish last
Berkeley Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 In my opinion they managed it very well at the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. Firstly, they did some promo gigs in smaller venues one to two months. Afterwards, they kicked off a big world tour where they played in big indoor arenas (between 10,000 and 20,000 seat). Recently, they've been touring through stadiums, amphitheatres and other open air venues in Europe, North America and South America. To be honest, I hope and I expect, too, that they'll do it again like this. Anyway, I'm curious about some different things: - Billie Joe Armstrong's outfit(s) – You know, ... Some differences between AI and 21CB tour - Some new things on the stage? – LED screen and the skyline were new on 21CB tour. What's next? I'd be glad if it'll stay like this. - Setlist. It's going to be the way it was in the past but .. what I'm curious about is how they'll close the main set and what songs they're gonna play during the encore. I hope it's gonna be some 21CB and AI stuff, like 21 Guns, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Homecoming, you know. I just hope, that it's not going to be American Idiot and JOS again. Hope they'll integrate those two songs into the mainset. However. And what about the acoustic encore? Something new? Again with electric guitar? I'm looking forward!
colour_me_stupid_ Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I'd like the setlist completely changed fairly often. See, last year I saw them 3 times in a week and got the exact same setlist every time bar one or 2 songs BUT, they must never, ever get rid of 21st CB as the opener. They must keep rock and roll radio too. It is the best intro I have ever seen, and I've been to plentyy of gigs It's just such an exciting moment when the chords of it start, it never fails to make me all emotional
stuart telegraph Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Factoring in how the last tour evolved and Billie saying how he likes playing "old shit" and the new direction their music and attitude is percieved to be headed, I think we're all in for a big change from the last 7 years. The first few songs probably won't be so politically charged anymore, hence he likely won't ask if we want to start a fucking war at every show. No, I think the atmoshpere will be considerably more light hearted and easy going with I'm hoping, as someone above mentioned, more interaction from Mike. I'm also hopeful of an end to the endless hey oh's and the like. Also, was it me, or did the other Jason look like a doofus just standing there in so many shots in the Awesome as Fuck video's? Who edited this and thought, let's not focus on the band members that are playing, lets focus on this dumbass just standing here nodding his head. Suffice to say I hope its just the 4 of them this time round, though I would miss the piano in certain songs, IF those songs are even played at all. Which brings me to my setlist predictions... Platypus will now close out the encore. No, I really have no idea like the rest of us, all I can say is I think the oldies such as Razorbacks, One of my lies, or Pasalaqua will be more frequent than before.
Heather. Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Suffice to say I hope its just the 4 of them this time round, though I would miss the piano in certain songs, IF those songs are even played at all. Would be nice if Billie did those brief piano parts himself, seeing as they are only necessary for the beginning of songs like Viva la Gloria and whatnot... it wouldn't interfere with his guitar playing. It'd be nice to see, and he's been more piano-focused lately, so I'd say though it's unlikely, it's not impossible.
Satan Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 i would honestly be so pissed if they dropped JOS, holiday or she. And. about the 21st century breakdown stuff, personally I don't see east jesus nowhere being dropped. I would also love if they incorporated whatsername or 80 more, didn't get to see either of those live and from what ive heard, they're both fantastic acoustic.
Gwen Stacy Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Am I the only one that thinks that we won't see shortened shows? Green Day has never been the type of band to me that ever seems to slow down, they just keep getting bigger and better. Also, I think they should drop most of the 21CB stuff as it doesn't fit in that well outside the context of an album supporting tour. However, they could probably pair EJN with Holiday (considering the similar themes). I hope that they keep 21CB the song on toward the end just because it is so amazing live.
fiercecircus Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I love tiny club shows by any band, and i would love to see Green Day that way (i kind of did- 2000 seat theater in 1997.) but here's the thing: a lot of people want to see them... and quite frankly THE HUGE SHOWS ARE A BLAST!!! zomg. as a comparison, i saw Soundgarden on their reunion tour this summer... regardless of whether or not you like them, hear me out: the band sounded really tight, played for two hours, sounded just as good as they did 10 years ago. They were amazing and played all the good songs. BUT- their stage setup and their action on stage was BORING AS SHIT. There were a couple of lights, a screen with their logo on it, and 4 dudes just standing there singing. I mean, they sounded good and maybe they didn't want a big showy spectacle but for somebody sitting in the back (as i was) it was freaking boring. Now for comparison: two nights later i took my mom to see Keith Urban at the same arena (UGH. I hate country music, but my mom loves him so i took her. whatever.) I really don't know any of his songs or anything, BUT- he had a huge stage setup. Huge screens, crazy lights on these twirly track things that spun around, all kinds of special effects, he got right down in the audience a couple of times, gave away a guitar, confetti cannons, the whole bit. And as much as i can't stand him- IT WAS AN AWESOME SHOW. It was a spectacle. You left feeling total sensory overload, and he and his band worked their asses off onstage and looked like they were genuinely giving it their all and having a good time. It reminded me of Green Day. Now given what ticket prices are for the average arena show, and how far away most people are from the stage, you have to make it worth it for people. You have to reach out to the people in the back- and having big screens and crazy effects does that. A Green Day show circa AI or 21CB is not just a concert, it is a THEATRICAL, MUSICAL EXPLOSION. They get people to sing along. They get people to yell and scream and do the "hey-ooohs." The pyro is crazy and the band looks like they're having a shitload of fun. Billie Joe works the crowd like Freddie Mercury, and his huge onstage personality helps, but the spectacle of it all is amazing. I saw them last summer from both the front of the stage, and from the last row of seats- and it was still a good show. Bottom line is it needs to be more exciting than it is on tv. Seeing soundgarden live was like watching them on tv. Seeing Green Day live was fucking LIVE. it was a party. It was totally in your face. End of story. If they ditch the big show i will be disappointed. (keeping in mind that i was the most cynical of punks back in my day.)
Heather. Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I also don't see them shortening shows... I like to think they still have the energy and desire to please. They've said a number of times on the last tour that they know we pay a lot of fucking money to come see them play and they have an obligation to us. I would like to hold them to that. Three hours is a lot, but I would hope for 2.5 always. I also don't see them dropping East Jesus Nowhere. Whatever. It just depends on what kind of traditions they develop for their new album. This isn't really important, but didn't Billie stop saying "do you want to start a fucking war?" and started saying "I pledge allegiance to the United States of America!" ? Maybe just sometimes. I'm also always kind of dumbstruck or fascinated when he just says "Do you want to start a war?" ... did he just forget to say fuck or was there some kind of demographic analysis that made him think to censor himself a little bit? I swear, watching footage from like New Zealand, or Singapore, he cursed less there. But it seems totally arbitrary when he gets dirtier language. Actually, that reminds me, I could do for a few less "fucks" out of him. It's not that the word bothers me at all, obviously, it's that when you use it soooo excessively it doesn't have the same shock-value fun than if he knew good spots to drop it, ya know? Especially for a crowd that is mostly NOT hardcore fans, those people can appreciate an unexpected 'fuck' a few times during a show, but when he's going on his Billie 'oh fuck i was fucking walking down the fucking street when i fucking saw...' and it's like, all right.... But that's just a trivial thing and I don't ACTUALLY care, we have bigger fish to fry in this thread.
KerplunkxCreak Posted August 26, 2011 Author Posted August 26, 2011 I can't wait and all those ideas are great! But when do you think we would see results? I hope next year, but the guys take a few years betweens tours haha!
kristóf Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Next Worldwide Tour? I have a list about those countries which wants Green Day. It's called map of the world.
Beathe. Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I don't care what kind of venue they'll play at, but it will probably be another stadium tour. I would be able to go to more shows if the tour dates weren't so close. A day inbetween would make a huge difference. I also want them to change their setlist more often.
Sanity Loan Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I'd like to see them add more stops to "smaller" US cities. During American Idiot, they came within an hour's drive of my location THREE times. Durning 21CB, the closest they came was a four hour drive. So I'd like to see them add more stops.
Four. Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 During the 09 21stCB tour, they did do a couple of smaller cities though. Not small small, but still relatively small.
kristóf Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I hope in the next tour they will find out that Europe has an other part. I thought the Wall in Berlin is already in ruins, so i don't know, why they don't come to the East. They were here in 2005, I wasn't able to go because of my age (back then i was 11). With 21st Century Breakdown I think Czech Republic was the easter country in Europe which got some Green Day. No Hungary, Bulgaria, Russia, Greece, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia...
Guest dar89ren Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 If they ever do drop Minority from their setlist, I'd be really, really sad... They play nothing else from Warning as it is, and to me that album has to be represented by at least one song (I wish Church on Sunday, Deadbeat Holiday and Jackass would be played frequently too) To me, the songs that I'd love to see at every show are: From 21st Century Breakdown 21st Century Breakdown From American Idiot American Idiot Jesus of Suburbia Holiday Are We the Waiting/St Jimmy From Warning Minority From Nimrod Hitchin' a Ride Good Riddance From Insomniac Brain Stew/Jaded From Dookie Longview (with Billie Joe singing, not a fan, that gig's old for me now ) Welcome to Paradise Basket Case From Kerplunk/1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours *I doubt there'd be a standard song they'd go with for every show from these albums as they generally only play 1 or 2, but anything would be great* 2,000 Light Years Away Dry Ice I Was There Knowledge So that's anywhere from 12-16 songs depending on how much old stuff they play, that gives em room for 10 new songs, and a couple more oldies to be thrown in there for the hardcore fans.
loristroud Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I think all good points have been addressed. First I would like to point out that today is my one year anniversary of my first and so far only Green Day concert! Congrats to me! I think the one song I really would hate to see dropped is When I Come Around. I don't see that happening though. But it really is the only one that I would just HATE to see dropped. I currently live in Anchorage, AK so we don't really get a lot of concerts here, but I just went to a Papa Roach concert here and it was at a really intimate type venue and it was SO fun! Such a different experience from stadium shows, and it is such a different type of energy. I would love to see Green Day in that type of environment but at the same time, stadium shows have a totally different yet equally as amazing energy. Green Day live is just an experience all it's own, so I don't care either way, but like most everyone else, I would like to be able to experience both. Unfortunately I am stuck here for the next 2-3 years, so I hope that they don't tour until I move back to the lower 48, or at least have a show here in Anchorage if they do. I hope they kinda drop the AI/21CBD "uniform", too, if they tour again.
San Miguel Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 congrats on your tour anniversary - i'm so jealous as i haven't seen GD live yet. will literally travel anywhere in the world to see them on their next tour, and on my own if i have to! would really love to see them in california since it's a place i'd love to see and their home state
Tomcat20 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Honestly, they should keep 21st CB as opening song. It's such a great song to get the crowd going nuts.
