gmcloughlin Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 On this tour I really got sick of Welcome to Paradise replacing the 2nd half of Hitchin' a Ride. I'm a little bit biased cos HAR is one of my all time fav GD songs but would it be too much to ask to hear the whole song just once??
localinsomniac Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 If they never played 21 Guns again live, I'd be okay with it. Know Your Enemy, September, even She. ::ducks:: But hot damn do I miss the Pop Disaster setlist. Maria into Hitchin' a Ride is just perfect.
Pres Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I wouldn't want them to get rid of any fun bits completely, but they could do something a bit different rather than doing roughly the same thing every night. And get rid of all the aaaaaaayyyyyyyooooooohhhhhhhs. I disagree i think the ay ohs are the bands way of connecting with the crowd i agree that the could do it less (because they do it a lot) but i still like it. Also a lot of times when Billie's doing that its at times where if he wasn't taking the only thing we would hear is the instruments the rest of the band are playing. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but i like the fact that he try's to connect to the entire audience during these moments because it's something everyone can join in on even if your at the back of the venue and you can't really see the stage. If i had to chose a song i would like to hear less i would chose King for a Day it's fun but i just don't think they should do it every show because we all know exactly what they're going to do during this song
Isabel Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I completely agree, 21stCB is an awesome opener. And after the rile up you described, there's also the build up within the song with the first part being slower and calmer than the Class of 13 part, which is when the crowd really explodes. Exactly. God that Class of 13 arrangement- I exploded I think the only other place they could put that song is the first song of the encore Just like they did with American Idiot, its 'opening' predecessor If it's not the opening song then I just don't want 21st Century Breakdown in the setlist
Laura! Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 If it's not the opening song then I just don't want 21st Century Breakdown in the setlist I can't see 21CB anywhere else but the opening song. It would be too weird to me.
Isabel Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I can't see 21CB anywhere else but the opening song. It would be too weird to me. So true And I can't imagine that they would keep 21st Century Breakdown in as well as Jesus of Suburbia- combined length of about 15 minutes
Malleus Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I wouldn't want them to get rid of any fun bits completely, but they could do something a bit different rather than doing roughly the same thing every night. And get rid of all the aaaaaaayyyyyyyooooooohhhhhhhs. I have never got the chance to see them live, but I will someday. If Billie Joe does not say at least one aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayooooooh I will be one very unhappy camper. I think that's what makes people love their performances so much. They really interact with the crowd, and it shows on everyone's faces. I do think they could cut down on the breaks inbetween songs and it wouldn't really affect the show as much, but still keep them in. Just shorten them. My opinion is kind of moot, again, but I'm just thinking of what I'd like to see.
porksoda Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 21CB is a good opener, and I can't really see it fitting in anywhere else, except after they've screwed around and get back into being all serious, but there also plenty of other songs they could use to open. And it's not so much about eliminating the 'fun' and stage antics, it's about changing it up. They done the whole KFAD/Shout thing for nearly 7 years now, they could do something else and still have plenty of antics.
Lena549 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 BOBD, Are we the Waiting, Viva La Gloria and probably Brain Stew
greendepent Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Why is everyone hating on Hitchin' A Ride, Brain Stew, and Know Your Enemy? Those songs are awesome live. In the last tour, the addition of a solo of that song is totally sick. Pure brilliance. Same with Jaded. I pick baskek case, minority, AI and JOS. The last 3 ones cause you miss almost half of an hour in only 3 songs (due de jams), where they can play 10 more songs. For me, this is the biggest mistake in the shows. Green Day are not Pink Floyd to make these things. Breakdown is the best opener that they have. Better than WTP, Pasalacqua, AI or NGFL. With Armatage Shanks or Maria it could be a draw. I mean, that drum intros are amazing
AwesomeAsFudge Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 oh my god guys you're saying almost all the awesome songs like basket case and AI and when i come around !! but i agree with brain stew
Doris The Spider Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 BOBD, WMUWSE, 21 Guns, King For A Day, Minority, Good Riddance idk what else
Of Rage and Love Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 The only thing I could think of is KYE, but they should still play it with the musicals arrangement, it's just so much more energetic, and less repetitive. Hearing Billie sing KYE at the musical was awesome, and I think it would be great if they played it like that live. And I'm getting kind of bored with Good Riddance, I think they could try switching it up and try using it as the main set closer and Minority as the encore closer.
Heather. Posted August 24, 2011 Author Posted August 24, 2011 They shouldn't ditch the ay-ohs entirely of course, but they should seriously cut down. Sometimes it seems excessive and comes across as desperate filler, like they're afraid of silence. But then again, for me, (as you can tell from my username and avatar) it's always kind of embarrassing to hear little Billie do the ay-oh's compared to the original ay-oh master.... like, seriously, he's trying to do something that he can't really. Don't get me wrong, Billie's got amazing stage presence and his ay-ohs are just lovely, but come on, if Queen only did 'em once a concert, no one else should do it THAT much.

Well, I think Billie doing those "Hey-Oh"' 's has gotten to the point where it's a habit. I mean, he's been doing it for years now, it would be really awkward if you went to a Green Day concert and Billie only shouted 'Hey Oh' twice. It's a trademark, kind of like his habit of saying "Y'know".
Malleus Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I don't consider what Freddie does and what Billie does to be the same thing. Freddie's sounds more professional, and Billie's sounds more like he's just trying to get the crowd loud and making some noise.
Heather. Posted August 24, 2011 Author Posted August 24, 2011 That's true, Billie's not doing it to show off his voice, he's doing it to get people involved. But you can tell that after one too many of them, the crowd gets burnt out from it and just wants him to do the singing.
IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 It'd be funny if he did an aaaaayyyyooo for ages one night and nobody responded.
**She** Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I am surprised that so many people are bored of hearing "Boulevard of broken dreams" because I think it is one of the most breathtaking moments when the whole audience sings it back at Billie Joe. People are singing along all the time but it is never as intense as while BOBD when Billie stops singing and just listens to the audience. I absolutely love it and I always think that Billie Joe enjoys that moment too. Imagine hearing so many people singing your lyrics.
Hermione Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 It'd be funny if he did an aaaaayyyyooo for ages one night and nobody responded. That would be so funny . I bet Billie would be amused too, if only it was possible to organise it. I'm a hey-ohh fan. They can get slightly tiresome on video I suppose but when I'm actually there in the crowd I enjoy every one of them, they just blend in to all the fun of the show. At the Foxboro show when they went off stage before the encore, the way we brought them back to the stage was by the whole crowd chanting "HEYYYYY-OHHHHH" over and over again. Best use of hey-ohhs ever . I like to think the fact they're done a bit excessively is almost a little joke between the band and fans at this point. He does them 'too much' on purpose, it makes them more of a humourous tongue in cheek thing instead of just a straight getting the crowd going thing. I love that moment too , definitely one of the highlights of the show and it's so sweet to see Billie's happy face listening to the crowd. I loved how he did a headstand during that part at some of the US shows later in the tour too . It was like "hmm how can I enjoy this moment even more? I know I'll do a headstand!"

sara_gd Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I'm surprised some people said Basket Case, that song is so energetic and amazing live!! I always play Basket Case and Holiday BIAB version when I want to show someone how Green Day is like live. I'd say... When I come around, because what I like best of the song is the beggining, so I get all excited and then...
