FBHT Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I sort of live by this: "And there's nothing wrong with me. This is how I'm supposed to be" People tend to interpret songs in their own ways, for me, that line is telling me that it's okay to be different, and you should love yourself for being different, and not care about what other people think of you.. And another song is Coming Clean: "I found out what it takes to be a man, mom and dad will never understand, what's happening to me" - In fact, that whole song is just brilliant.
Alan86 Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Love the avatar! KARL! thanks, I can't get enough of Karl lately. He's so wise
DoodleBob Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 I think 'Reject' took courage to put out on a record. I mean, we all know that song came from a letter Billie Joe recieved. It was a parent complaining how 'inappropriate' one of GD's albums were, and advised him to change his style, hence, Reject was formed. I only think it took guts is because the person that the song is about probably very well knows that song is about her, not to mention that he actually used a line of the letter in the song. Pretty much all of the lyrics are honest, and Billie frikin' told that lady how it is. I don't know, I just think it would be weird putting out a song like that...
Kristen M Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 5:32 - 5:40 Just quoting, I'm not gonna argue about anything. I love you for posting this haha never seen it before. I think Coming Clean is without a doubt the most honest thing Billie Joe has ever written about. Coming out is often a very touchy, scary subject and the way he tackled it in the song was just perfect. And listening to the song gives me chills every single time
deletethisaccount Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 lots. If I could think of one right now, it could pretty much be a song like Desensitized. There's half of me that wants everyone to be smart and descent people who actually help each other, and don't fight and not get into wars, but the other half of me enjoys watching society crumble and burn. I think that's what this song's about. "Go ahead and kill yourselves it all amuses me - for I'll be dammed to spend my life in hell" I think it takes a lot of balls to express yourself with things like that, because nobody wants to accept honesty. Especially when you've got thousands upon thousands of people listening to you..
Guest Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Do Da Da is the first song that comes to mind. It's always stuck out to me as one of Billie's most candid songs. Rushings of my depression Sacrifice everything Waste with me into nothing Well now you're stuck with me
Heather. Posted August 9, 2011 Author Posted August 9, 2011 Do Da Da is the first song that comes to mind. It's always stuck out to me as one of Billie's most candid songs. Rushings of my depression Sacrifice everything Waste with me into nothing Well now you're stuck with me I agree and I always found the lyrics to this similar in message to Jinx, which is a song I love, and also extremely honest and self-loathing: I'm hexed with regrets and bad luck. Keep your distance 'cause it's rubbing off. Or you will be damned to spend your life in hell. Or earth with me tangled at your feet. You finally met you nemesis disguised as your fatal long lost love. So kiss it good bye Until death do we part. You fell for a jinx for crying out loud.
jamesobxfan2296 Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Billie Joe sure is not shy to share has opinion on the U.S. Government. The song American Idiot is enough to prove that.
classof12 Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 FIrst thought was all of them, second was Coming Clean. You can't go more honest than that. you're right, I was going to said that one, I think is so brave to sing something like "even if my parents / friends /...don't understand me, I'm gonna say it anyway, beacuse this is me" definetly one of my favorite songs ^ ^
Smoothed Out Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 For me one that definitely stands out would be "I'm the son of rage and love" Great thread btw
Reberebel96 Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 I think Road to Acceptance is pure honesty... I always waste my time just wondering What the next man thinks of me I'll never do exactly what I want And I'll sculpt my life for your acceptance All my life I've seemed to have this need I think at times it even turns to greed We all want to join some family We'll even sacrifice a moral changing This is one of my favorite Green Day songs of all time, I think it really describes the want to fit and the worrying about what the other people might think of you instead of doing the things that you want.

Me three! I remember reading those first four lines quoted in a book about Green Day before I'd heard the album and they gave me chills. What makes the song even more incredible is he was SO young when he wrote it. An early sign of what a brilliant and honest songwriter he was and would continue to be.

Amber. Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Personally, I think anything from Dookie would fit. And plus, that album really means a lot to me, as well as a lot of other people. It's the album I can really relate to.
Heather. Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 In Words I might have ate "As for me... I am blind without a cause" Love it
