Pedestrian9394 Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Aw, that's the coolest thing ever. It was really nice of you to be so polite and understanding about the picture thing. I think I probably would have been the same way if it was my kid releasing his first album. And you do have a really amazing friend, by the way. I would have been terrified to just walk up and talk to them. xD
Florence Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Thank you. Thanks so much for sharing your story! I'm really happy for you.
Hermione Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 this reminds me of "my adventures with Green Day" on the inside of the kerplunk booklet. This made me LOL
dria021772 Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Thank you for this!!!! I am in awe of how you captured exactly how I feel about this great band and family....so again Thank you Thank you Thank you
Abbey. Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I just met Billie Joe and Adrienne last night. I haven't stopped smiling since. I was really hoping just to catch a fleeting glimpse of them. My heart is so full. I was at the Emily's Army album release party with an amazing friend-we have known each other for 30 years, since 5th grade. We were standing against the wall and Billie came and stood right next to me. I tapped him on the shoulder and he put his head right next to mine, and i just said "Thank you so much. For everything." And he smiled that beautiful lopsided smile with his eyes all crinkled up at me and said "No problem". I wish he would know what that "Thank you" entails: Thank you for keeping me company when I feel lonely, when my husband is away travelling and my kid is asleep and I feel scared. Thank you for travelling with me, singing a the top of my lungs in the car. Thank you for helping me share experiences with my teenage daughter, like inspiring her to play guitar and she lets me sing my heart out together with her.Thank you for giving me a springboard for talking to her about important topics like sex and drugs. Thank you for putting into words so much of the content of my heart- the rage and love, the beauty, the absurdity, the pain, the glory, the exultation, the crazy, the confusion, the sorrow, the humor, and the pure unadulterated joy of living. Thank you for providing the soundtrack of my life for the last almost 20 years. Thank you for being a committed musician and bringing together some of the most kick-ass people in the business, and thank you for being loyal to your band members. Thank you for providing an alternative to being a sheep, thank you for kicking my ass out of political apathy and bringing me back to the fervor of my youth. Thank you for putting into words how much I love my husband. Thank you for being the same age as me and reminding me that getting older does NOT mean i have to be boring, and that I can be a good mom and still be a bad-ass girl that loves punk.Thank you for never staying the same, for encompassing so many facets of your personality and sharing all of them with us.You are a hero, a little boy, a great dad, a sloppy drunk, a crusader,a stoned brat, a boy in a dress, a foul-tempered street punk, a rock god, a guy standing next to me in a club , bobbing his head, listening to a band; a visionary, a sweet husband who worships his wife. And so much more. Thank you for filling me with wild joy and making me feel seventeen again. I have so much respect and deep affection for you that those six words "Thank you so much. For Everything" could not possibly convey the deep emotion I felt. And Adriennne. Oh my god. She is without a doubt the nicest person I have ever met. She was on the other side of the club, and I went over to her, except I was really scared to talk to her, but my friend (always the wise one) looked me in the eye and said "Just seize the day. You will never get this chance again. Just do it." Like I said, amazing friend. So i walked up to Adrienne and said hi. We talked about knitting, and Vickie Howell and i told her how she really inspired me. I was determined not to bug either one of them yesterday- they were here to see their kid, after all, but i couldn't stop myself. I asked her "can I be kind of a stupid fangirl and take a picture with you?" She said no. I have such utmost respect for her, my opinion has gone up exponentially for her. She said " Me and Billie promised Joey that today was about him, that we weren't going to take anything away from his day." She waved her hand around at the club "He's here, somewhere..." (It was packed). I got a little giggly then and told her " i know...i just met him... (whispering...) IT WAS AWESOME" It was a very silly moment. We talked a little more about how proud she must be and I told her I had a teenager, and she was like "You understand then" She is 100% amazing and now i completely get how she is such a muse and how Billie Joe has said repeatedly that he could never love another woman. She just radiated warmth and charm and strength and you could see the love in her eyes when she talked about her family. Adrienne, thank you for being such an inspiration, and thank you for sharing your husband-and now your kid- with the world. I feel like a better person for meeting you. I was really nervous and you were amazingly gracious and kind. I love the Armstrongs. I love Green Day. i love my family. And Green Day Authority community- I love you. Kairi Thank you thank you thank YOU for coming here and sharing this beautiful story with us. so perfectly expressed you really take me there into your experience. i especially loved reading what your "thank you" REALLY meant. so so so agree!!!
*withoutadoubt* Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 This was such a beautiful story! Thanks so much for sharing it. I LOVED your 'thank you' explanation. When I met Billie Joe after one of the shows a couple years ago, that's the only thing that I was able to mutter out - only two words, 'thank you.' It kind of said it all - but I really love the way you spelled it all out. Thank you!
Lindsay Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I really love how everyone is sharing these stories about what Green Day means to them, I think it's fantastic. I'm really glad you got the chance to meet them - Adrienne seems like such an amazing woman. I loved how she said no to taking the picture with you because it was Joey's night, that's just... awe.
Rebel07 Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 really cool story! thats really awesome that they made sure the night was all about emily's army
in_your_face Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Wow. Such an amazing experience you had there and a wonderful time too. You're really lucky to talk to the revolutionist and the nicest person in the world.
Laurenn Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Awww, amazing story. Adrienne sounds wonderful! You're a very lucky person, bummer about the picture though, but im sure you understood.
Eva Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Woah, man that's awesome! I wish I could meet them someday.
Mozzabillie Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Thank you so much for your post and this thread. You have put into beautiful words what I have felt in my heart about them but didn't know how to express it. They are my favorite couple in the world. I have always said that and people would ask me why and I would try to explain but didn't know exactly how to express it fully and you did it wonderfully, thank you for that. They know what is really important in the world...family. My daughter and I have had so many experiences through Green Day and they have helped to always keep us close. Your thoughts of what Green Day means to you was expressed so beautifully. I feel the same way. Thank you so very much. Green Day's music is much more than just music and again you put that into words in ways that I couldn't ever figure out how to do. I could not get the courage to say anything to her last night. I was standing by the door against the wall, directly across the room from her. I moved right before Emily's Army came on to the same side of the room as her but way in front of her so I could concentrate on the show...which is why I was there. Emily's Army is a fantastic band and seem very down to earth. Joey is really a sweetheart and has been taught well by his parents. This band is really going to go far. Talent plus personality is what makes a band stand out from all of the other bands. They are off to a great start!
Desensitized09 Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Honestly, one of the most amazing "meeting" stories I've read about those two. It just goes to show that even the simplest moments make the biggest impact on someone

Poprocks_and_Coke Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Awww.... I´m so happy for you. It´s so cool that they´re like normal people and not like such stars that need bodyguards everywhere, etc. Too bad that I don´t live in the USA. D:
