Four. Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 And, FINALLY, whoever is handling the news is kicking ass on finding stuff. There have been several times in the last weeks that items have been posted there before anywhere else. Either they hired someone to do it, or the person who did it before finally took a real interest in things. Well... some of the news is just random bullshit too. I mean, some of them barely even mention GD at all. Like the Idol one. There's like one paragraph that mentions BOBD, but that's it.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Sounds like the new news guy updates everything with the term "Green Day" in it or something. It's a nice change though.
Trina Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Yeah, I think they're just googling Green Day and clicking on the news section... :\ It would be so nice to have someone actually a tad passionate running the site!
jtdscape Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Yeah, I think they're just googling Green Day and clicking on the news section... :\ It would be so nice to have someone actually a tad passionate running the site! *cough* the GDA staff *cough*
Tripe Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Well... some of the news is just random bullshit too. I mean, some of them barely even mention GD at all. Like the Idol one. There's like one paragraph that mentions BOBD, but that's it. Haha, so true. It's like someone has hired a press clipping service, which pulls anything online that has certain words and phrases in it. But I guess random bullshit news with a fair amount of good stuff thrown in is better than nothing timely at all. Which is the way it was until recently.
Four. Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I suppose, haha. I never even go on GD.com anyway, so it's not like I care too much.
Tripe Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I go on it daily now, since they have been updating. Plus, they tweet the news items as well.
Abbey. Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 the good folks greenday.com seems to have a new strategy on what constitutes relevant news to the fanbase. goes as follows: hey, there's a news story that mentions the words GREEN and DAY, lets tweet that out! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz go team GDA

EXCEPT IT MUST BE TWEETED IN THIS MANNER :: Green Day News
Abbey. Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 this is very true... EXCEPT IT MUST BE TWEETED IN THIS MANNER :: Green Day News hahahaha. lmao!
Karen. Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I'm all for them being more active but the scholarship story they tweeted today was ridiculous. Not even remotely relevant.
spark in the night Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 the GDC collab videos are their most recent story
Tre_Gina Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 it's insane the amount of news the website is publishing now...2 or 3 stories a day when Green Day arn't up to much! I'm not sure it is all relevant to be honest.
netty Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I dont understand why you guys are so against the official site posting these news stories. okay I dont understand why the scholarship one was posted, the cystic fybrosis one could well be something that the band are interested in but looking at it the rest of the news is pretty much the same kind of thing thats on the gda! those kind of stories are pretty much going to be the only ones that are going to be posted anywhere at the mo until the guys have something they want the fans to know about or if they go to another bands gig or sommething. you guys baffle me at times. I mean, news about Emilys army is on the gda! stories about Lady bloody Gaga is on there (sorry but I personally couldnt give a stuff about her ) and you are still complaining! if you dont like whats being posted, dont go on there. if you want to see the site actually being the kind of site it should be, try being a little more supportive. I dont know if some people think the official site might be turning into some kind of threat to the gda`s existance or something just because the news is being updated a little more often.

I don't get why it matters that they're posting news, even if they're posting ten random articles a day. At least they're doing something. That said they did go a bit overboard in posting Emily's Army stuff for a while, because they posted a few articles, and not all of them mentioned BJ being producer. Most just mentioned the fact he's Joey's dad. It's one thing for a fan site like GDA to post the odd article, but the official site just made it seem like extra publicity, like a Green Day add-on, and i'm sure that's the last thing EA want.
netty Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I think the assumption has been made that a lot of the fans of EA are also green day fans so they will be interested in what they are doing. plus, like I said, news about them have been posted on the GDA, maybe not as much so quickly but still, dont critise the official site about that without including the GDA in it as well. maybe some think there shouldnt be anything posted on the official site unless it is about green day. if that was how it was done then there wouldnt be a hell of a lot being posted.
Katarina. Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Instead of posting so much news, it would be nice if they updated the pics section..
Zelda Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Instead of posting so much news, it would be nice if they updated the pics section.. This. Last time I checked, they wee missing a shit ton of shows.

I dont know if some people think the official site might be turning into some kind of threat to the gda`s existance or something just because the news is being updated a little more often. In my opinion, an official site should be posting news from the band, not everything that has "Green Day" mentioned in it, which is exactly what they're doing. I'll often see stories that mention Green Day and decide not to post about it because I don't think it's relevant enough, only to see it's already on the official site. What GDA does is collect stories that might be relevant to Green Day fans. The official site should be highlighting some of those, but not posting every goddamn thing that comes out. I don't think an official site should have the same content as GDA does. I don't follow many bands, but when I see news posted to official sites like Weezer.com - it's not the news dump that has been going on at GD.com. Rather they highlight some of those related stories, but it's mostly stuff from the band or about the band. Content that isn't just a re-print from other sources.
pasalaska Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 it's all about filtering out the good from the bad really... GDA (well, GDA's staff) has an excellent filter in my opinion, while GD.com just kinda vomits anything that mentions GD all over itself. I kinda blur out GD.com's tweets now, because a lot of them have just not been relevant. I know that GDA is fan-run so it posts fan-relevant and interesting content, something that GD.com fails at. Yes, it's excellent to see GD.com a bit more with it and up-to-date, but a little bit of reading/selectiveness before posting would make it a million times better. GD.com's news editor in my mind is kinda like Homer Simpson with his (her?) feet up on the console, occasionally waking from his (or her) daze to google 'Green Day' with the most recent results and then posting the links to these results on GD.com without actually doing much more than skimming over the article. yup.
Four. Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 ^ This. I mean, too much is like not enough. Whenever I go on the site, the stories are see there are just completely irrelevant. I don't give a shit if some dude who might not even make it on Idol covered BOBD. I mean... good for him?
pasalaska Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 quality not quantity really. in GDA's case, it's generally a quantity of quality edit: how did I know you were gonna rep that, Andres?

I think the problem right now is that there ISNT any real green day news. so if they went for just stories directly about the band...then they wouldnt be posting a whole lot lol I`m sure the opinions posted here will be taken into consideration. I know I`m coming across as an argumentative bitch here but somebody needs to play devils advocate on here. like I said though, theres not exactly that much news about the band so there isnt a lot that can be posted on the official site about them. plus, I`ve tried googling the buggers and found bugger all!
