I think the problem right now is that there ISNT any real green day news. so if they went for just stories directly about the band...then they wouldnt be posting a whole lot lol

I`m sure the opinions posted here will be taken into consideration. I know I`m coming across as an argumentative bitch here but somebody needs to play devils advocate on here. :P like I said though, theres not exactly that much news about the band so there isnt a lot that can be posted on the official site about them. plus, I`ve tried googling the buggers and found bugger all! :pinch:

You have raised some very valid points in your posts, Netty :)

I don't think that anyone is complaining that GD.com is suddenly a lot more active - it's been awesome to see it alive and kicking once again.

But as you said in the first sentence, there's not a whole lot of GD news at the moment, so trying to 'make' news out of articles and random mentions that aren't news-worthy at all is what's getting on peoples nerves. I think people would rather have relevant, proper news articles posted less often rather than a constant stream of pointless articles.

And on the topic of Emily's Army, which you posted about previously, I think many of us are wary of associating them with GD too much for their sake, just as we cringe when the articles or interviews with Emily's Army don't stop going on about 'Billie Joe's son' and 'Green Day jr'. I personally feel like it's not helping them shake off the Green Day shadow.

Hope you get what I'm trying to say... I'm not (and I'm sure none of us are) 'anti-GD.com', it's just that right now it's kinda spewing out so much useles stuff that I'm sort of blocking it out.

You see, but there is a treasure trove of things the band or a representative of the band COULD make available on greenday.com I agree with Andres that a google search of greenday news and dump onto greenday.com is lame at best. GDA does a great job of selectively posting news, as was Tanya was on her greendaymind twitter and blog.

GreenDay.com could be a wonderful source of UNIQUE information that isnt out there in the googleverse. The band could post a backstage photo from the tour, a snippet of audio from band practice, a photo of some scribbled lyrics by BJA, a snippet of video of the band, photos of artwork that fans have sent them from around the world. I think to say that "there isnt anything going on with the band" is limiting the scope of what the band or member of their team could make available to the fan base on greenday.com. It is obvious to me that nobody close to the band choses to make available anything of relevance to greenday.com and therefore it is a fairly useless website. If it is not being actively supported by the band then it is nothing but a a FAN SITE. And if thats the case, my FAN SITE of choice is GDA. Its a great fucking fansite. Greenday.com should and can be much much more than a fansite.

Does anyone remember nothingwrongwithme ? I'd love it if GD.com could post rare stuff or maybe little blogs from the band/people round them. The site could be an amazing opportunity for content and they're dumping allsorts of rubbish on instead. It doesn't have to be massively personal/intrusive, just interesting.

Nothingwrongwithme is such a wonderful site, and Delfina actually brought it back a few months ago. The posts are only occasional and she's using it as more of a personal blog as well as a Green Day blog now, but the writing is still brilliant as always and all the old cool stuff is still there.

And I agree! GD.com could be so much more. Doubt it ever will be though, lucky we have GDA and GDC.

Edit: Oops too late

Me too! Don't know what made me check it last week, but when I saw the post, I nearly jumped for joy. I really hope she continues writing. She's really amazing.

Abbey

Thanks for the shoutout there, Abbey, I appreciate it. I'm glad at least someone likes it, lol. Anyhoo...

I actually like the new layout of the GD.com site and I don't mind the newsdumps, but I understand what people are saying, it is a fine line between relevant and irrelevant and how the band wants to push out news about themselves. Your point about opening up their archives and posting rare inside stuff is right on target. They have the power to do that and access to it all, and I hope they figure that part out. It would make GD.com sparkle, for sure, and be something that no one else in the Green Day Internet sphere has the power to do or present.

The little blog posting idea that Iscoredwaddlesgoal mentioned is also a very exciting idea.

*cough* the GDA staff *cough*

 Yup, pretty much.

It's becomming embarrassing.

I have to say I agree. When I go onto the site I cringe every single time. The news section is either deserted or filled with every result from Google News. There is no personal write up about the news pieces, just copy and paste, which I think is probably the main problem. I understand the person/people running it have a life but there's not an ounce of passion. The site design is pretty cute imo but could be a bit more professional and better maintained. Obviously it would be nice if they credited where they get their news too (lol, gda/gdc). Considering Green Day is one of the biggest bands in the world and has such a passionate fanbase it's just a bit sad that their official site really isn't that professional, especially compared to other artists sites. Now I can be a bit obsessive about things like this, especially the visual aspects but it really just isn't good enough for such a great band. :\

This makes me seem like I care a lot, I don't. It would be cool if it was better though. :)

I just checked the official website to see what everyon'e talking about (since I hardly check it. Why check when there's GDA? :D) and to be honest, I don't really see anything wrong about it. I actually enjoyed reading every tidbit of news/ interviews they post about on there! I don't know, maybe its just me. I don't find It embarrasing.

NO! YOU HATE IT! IT'S TERRIBLE! NO ONE LIKES IT!

BUT WHAT'S WRONG ABOUT IT? :(

Plus, there's a lot of people who might not visit GDC, and GDA, and they get all the news off of the GD website. So that's a way of keeping THEM updated, I guess.

It isn't anything more than Google will give you. Anyone who wants something more - and if you love Green Day, you'll fucking want something MORE - will find their way to GDA. :)

The news articles since the new design are so random (as others have pointed out).

According to one of their links, the best way to pick up a girl that likes Green Day is to ask her about her tattoos. Must try it sometime, it's not weird asking a total stranger to show you her tattoos right?

I'd say you have a good chance that one of them might be right on her vagina. It's really only a matter of a couple good words and you're having sex from there.

I think it's legit.

Wouldn't it make more sense that if you want to ask a girl who lkes Green Day out, you'd talk about Green Day...

The problem with their "news" is that it's basically spam at this point. If I was a casual fan, updates like that would put me off altogether.

And the caps lock for everything needs to stop, constant use nullifies its effect. Now if you see anything like NEW ALBUM, it's not going to stand out against GREEN DAY WERE ONCE SPOTTED AT THIS CELEB HANGOUT.

WHAT CELEB HANGOUT ? I MUST KNOW IMMEDIATELY.

News like that will definitely increase people's respect for Green Day and draw in legions of new fans.

I agree with some of the posts here. There's too much news being posted. A lot of it is just news with Green Day mentioned in it and nothing really big in my opinion. I'd rather see some updates about the new album and when they will possibly come out of hiding.

(thinking to self: PLEASE come out of hiding BEFORE 2013 please please please please)
