November's Storms Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Will be back to do this properly later. No offence meant towards you at all Tony but I miss J'net doing these! Still just glad they are happening
whatshername0303 Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 One of the best Green Day song...I liked it before I began listening to Green Day! I like to listen to it when I need to do something fast...I like the rhythm, the lyrics. In fact, I adore it! Here's my favorite part: Can I get another Amen? / There's a flag wrapped around a score of men / A gag, a plastic bag on a monument

Dana. Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Every time I hear the Faith and Misery part, I cross myself and then start dancing again. I just kind of like this song and the way it sounds. So high-energy and fun.
Punk-tastic32 Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 THIS IS OUR LIVES ON HOLIDAY!!!!!! This song holds so much meaning and memories for me. -Driving home late at night with my dad, and singing along- but never succeeding in holding the HOLIDAYYYYYYYYY quite long enough. -The summer before I moved away from the US, my friend and I were blasting this song and driving around South Portland/ Portland on a great Maine summer day. -It was probably the first Green Day song that I absolutely fell in love with. Like, I knew older songs and stuff, but Holiday was just... different. -It is also the first song I learned -in it's entirety- on bass. -Seeing American Idiot on Broadway. And shaking during Holiday because of the pure awesomeness. In my opinion, Holiday is gives KFAD a run for its money for the 'Best Green Day song performed Live' title. EDIT: I'm getting chills just thinking about all this.
in_your_face Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Definitely one of my favorite songs off American Idiot. It deserves it's own thread. I was listening to the Manchester gig today, and wow Mike's kickass bass part really amazed me.
LauraG Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I think Holiday is a really great song! The lyrics are so meaningful and deep. I remember it having a huge impact because nobody was saying anything against war at that time. It felt great! And it's so much fun on stage!!! The whole "Zieg Heil to the president gas man" part when everybody is singing at the top of their voices is just epic! Definitely one of the best moments of the tour!
norcalgreendayfan Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Every time I hear the Faith and Misery part, I cross myself and then start dancing again. I just kind of like this song and the way it sounds. So high-energy and fun. Hah I cross myself at that part too
xbox360ROCKS Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Man, this is a song (Holiday) that got me into one of the best bands in the world back when I was 10 years old, while I was playing Tony Hawk American Wasteland. Definitely one of my favorite songs on American Idiot.
greendaytone Posted June 4, 2011 Author Posted June 4, 2011 Amazing to see how many people got into Green Day through this song. Personally, it's not been one of my favourites. Not sure why, a good song nonetheless (of course, it's Green Day!). My favourite line has to be "Can i get another Amen?!"
November's Storms Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Promised more insight into this song, but I probably won't at this stage. Too tired! Great reading everyones opinions on it. I think its been overplayed (both by me and the media) but still a great song. Too many of GDs singles since the AI album have been slow rock ballads, nice to have such a popular punky song there with them too. Anyone seen the movie Accepted? They use it in the party scene which was cool
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Am tired as hell, but just wanted to say that this is a kick-ass song. It's so high-energy and it's got a couple of very strong lines. Also I love the music video, Sam Bayer did a great job on that one.
Karen. Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 My favourite Green Day video. I like running to the song, it always gives me a boost.
November's Storms Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I do remember some interview where they said something about writing the "president gasman" breakdown part, and that they were scared as shit about putting it in the song. That it was the point where they said fuck what happens and just went with it.
Burnout98 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Ahhhh, i love this song. The bit after the solo where its just bass and drums always gets me pumped up.
Marlee Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 This song makes me want to go kick over a trash can and start a revolution
†...HAUSHINKA...† Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 oh gosh, one of the best songs ever written including all the other bands in the world! I lvoe it so muuuch!! it charges me as hell!!!
November's Storms Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 *the representative of Dublin now has the floor..* One of the things I don't like about BIAB is that the Holiday breakdown doesn't have the exlposions during "bang bang goes the broken glass", and thats what I love about the AAF version! Plus the fact it was recorded in Dublin and I was there Somewhere in that mass of people shouting "amen!" is me
Snoopy. Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 One of the things I don't like about BIAB is that the Holiday breakdown doesn't have the exlposions during "bang bang goes the broken glass", and thats what I love about the AAF version! Plus the fact it was recorded in Dublin and I was there Somewhere in that mass of people shouting "amen!" is me i like AAF , because it's faster than the original one!
Lena549 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 When I was watching BIAB for the first time and Holiday came on, I thought Billie Joe said: 'This song is not ENTIRE Amrican, it's ENTIRE war!' And I was like: 'What the hell?! Why is this song entire war? I thought it's anti war! ' Then I turned the subtitles on, and read 'anti' Holiday was probably the first GD song that really impressed me. My music teacher sang it with us in class, and someone told me that it is a song against bush. I was 11 at that time, but I knew who George Bush was, and liked the idea to write a song against him. I think it is one of the strongest songs on American Idiot, and I really liked it before I got obessed with Green Day
Annie, get your gun Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Is an amazing song, but also has one of the greatest videos. The part of the car is funny, but the characters they represent are hilarious! Billie as a nerd is so cute, the guys with shiny jackets punching each other Tré being a priest (ew, when he pukes) and dress in drag irritating the barman, and Mike as the cop who takes out Tré I love those parts
Laura! Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I love this song, especially live. I like it better live on the 21CB tour than on the AI tour.
