Lauralovesgreenday Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 love this song! great lyrics and i love the guitar solo
farley drexel hatcher Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Aww I love this song! It's so sweet. I remember how exciting it was when I first heard it, an awesome retro surfy love song with a Foxies vibe . It sounds like it's straight outta the 50s or 60s. As for whether it's pop it most certainly is! And that's not a bad thing at all. A wonderful breezy pop gem. I absolutely LOVE the old-style harmonies, and the out-and-out romantic lyrics. What a lovely song Where did the thing about Mike co-writing it come from? Is that true? Yeah i've always wondered that, too, about Mike co-writing it ... I mean there's something about that makes me think Billie didn't write it alone, but I can't remember where that bit of info came from. I love this song and would love to get a bit of back info about it, seems to have come from nowhere, has no real relation to 21CB or anything else for that matter
JuliaX_Ray2020 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Love conquers every time when two hearts come to collide. You're the card in my valentine and the candy hearts in my mind. *singing*
Jaymee!! Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I believe that is correct! I will deliver your bonus point in the form of + rep

Hermione Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Yeah i've always wondered that, too, about Mike co-writing it ... I love this song and would love to get a bit of back info about it, seems to have come from nowhere, has no real relation to 21CB or anything else for that matter I remember Tre saying something like that in an interview, but I can't recall when was it! Yeah see as far as I remember when it came out it was just a given that Mike co-wrote it, I've only heard doubts about it more recently. The fact that I don't remember it being up for debate at the time makes me think the info must've come from an interview or a legit source. But maybe it was just assumed because of the harmonies and because of it being a love song coming out around the time of Mike's wedding. I know there was a 21st CB era interview where Billie said he'd love for Mike to write and sing more. I'm thinking maybe Billie mentioned it there? Can't think what interview it was though.
Marki. Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Hearts Collide Such a sappy song, but I still love it dearly Also I am pretty sure Mike co-wrote it, just can't find any legit source right now...
Malleus Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 This is a great song. I'm always finding myself singing it at random times throughout the week.
TheSaltOfTheEarth Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 This is such a sweet, adorable song, but it's not too over-the-top cheesy like 1000 Hours - though the lyrics and general sound of it does remind me a bit of the stuff on 1039SOSH. So it's like new-Billie vocals and old-Billie lyrics...it's a good combination. I remember hearing somewhere that Mike co-wrote it as well...I can't find the interview though.
Annie, get your gun Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I really love this song, is so romantic It doesn't sound like a GD song, and the title is amazing. I think that what makes it special is that you don't hear it for a while, but when you do, you have to love the song <3 In some way it reminds me to Mother Mary
okmnoren Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I think this is the interview you all are talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_B5ZtoTQ5k&feature=channel_video_title

alaniluau Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Hearts Collide is fabulous, and unlike my fellow GDCers with good memories, I had no idea that Mike wrote it. As others have said, this song is very much in the vein of the Hot Tubs or even Prima Donna. If 21CB had been a different type of album, I have no doubts that this one would have been a key track, perhaps even a single. Nonetheless, it makes a fantastic b-side. The lyric "You're the card in my valentine and the candy hearts in my mind" particularly stands out. As is standard for the boys, it takes a sentiment that is cliched and twists it around to something bright and new. Plus, it's a perfect number to sing and play acoustic. Stripping it down like that really brings out the melodic poetry of the song. By all means, Hearts Collide is a brilliant track.
accountdeleted1203 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I don't really feel AS close to this as I do to other songs, yeah it is a good song and at times I just want to listen to some of their stuff I don't listen to often but I wouldn't put it in my top 50 songs by Green Day. A nice happy song though
Lindsey Love Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 To be completely honest when I first heard this song I flat out didn't like it. It seemed like just another sappy love song (which let's be frank it totally is). However, I began listening to it on Awesome as Fuck more and more and it's really grown on me. It's very catchy and sweet and now I have to belt it out every time it comes on. The fact that Mike may have co wrote it also makes me like it more I think haha. Anyway, I guess personally Hearts Collide took some getting used to, but I have to say it's just a lovely little diddy and I enjoy listening to it often these days. Wow I apologize immensely. I'm and idiot. Was totally thinking of C and Vs. Not Hearts Collide. Sorry guys. Completely disregard this post.

Lindsey Love Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 This isn't on Awesome As Fuck ... Wow fuck I feel like a dumbass. Was thinking of Cigarettes and Valentines. That's embarrassing. Sorry world.
Florence Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I love this song, especially the guitar solo. "you're the card in my valentine and the candy hearts in my mind" is my favorite line. So Mike did indeed co-write it, good to know Cool. I didn't know that.
koolkev Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I love this song! one of my favorite b-sides but do you know where I could download the mp3 version of "Hearts Collide"? on iTunes, in the Know Your Enemy EP. Also has lights out on it. Great song a little bit like the tubbies, which makes me happy What is the Club forum?!?!
gloria123 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 this is a good song. it sounds more upbeat or FBHT's-ish it just doesn't sound like it would fit anywhere (sound wise) with 21CB
Trina Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Swoooon. I adore Hearts Collide a ridiculous amount. Fell in love first listen. A totally unexpected gorgeous b-side, such a cute surprise. The retro surf guitar and harmonies are so lovely. I think it will always be a gem in Green Day's catalogue. It's a pretty cool song but I think it could be a step to far into pop music? MAYBE :/ What? It's a step too far into pop music in my opinion and Billie's voice is way too high. Better than no room to step in a narrow comfort zone. and if you're referring to Billie's voice from the youtube video, I'm pretty sure the pitch was changed so it wouldn't be removed. I love this song and would love to get a bit of back info about it, seems to have come from nowhere, has no real relation to 21CB or anything else for that matter I sort of doubt there's much back info to go with it. I assume Billie writes a ton of songs for Adrienne like this that we never hear. I suppose it was a somewhat random choice for b-side but I don't think there's really meant to be a relation of it to anything else.
