In the 1980's, Van Halen famously requested in their band rider that a large bowl of M&Ms be placed in their dressing room before their arrival. The instructions were very specific: no brown M&Ms allowed.

ahh okay. Thanks :)

Yay for this having it's own thread :D. I'm not sure exactly why this is interesting but it is!

Am I the only one who finds the cup thing absolutely fucking ridiculous?

Just use any plastic dixie cup, ffs.

Nope haha!

It's the wanting straws that match the cups that seems really silly . Honestly who would care enough to specify that? Like Aska said they drink bottled water onstage so I think these cups are for backstage. Only one prissy diva-like request out of the whole lot isn't too bad but it's a bit surprising to see it coming from Green Day.

And yum I'm totally making that ravioli, all my favourite ingredients right there.

The colour of the cups is picky  but other than that, meh. I assume they see it as they're paying good money for the service and may as well make the most of it. I suppose they have their reasons at the end of the day. It did also cross my mind that they might have been joking around to an extent - we have no idea how serious they were being about it all. I'm sure at the end of the day the band don't really care what they're drinking out of.

I actually saw this a few months ago and forgot all about it XD

Ahahaha, the cups thing is so weird.. I never imagined Green Day to be all diva-ish and make bizarre demands like that.

And now I'm bloody starving.

This was a nice read, I love hearing about all the people who work backstage. I don't see any of their requests being too outrageous, and it sounds like the chefs are happy with working for them. I know some caterers personally who tell stories about much more demanding,- borderline insane- clients. So to me it sounds like the guys are pretty laid back. I'm gonna make that ravioli recipe sometime this week, it sounds amazing.

Also, if I even sneak backstage, I'll make sure it's taco night.

That article made me so hungry

I don't think they're picky. Seeing how many places they go, I think that having their own chef with them minimizes the risk of food poisoning (and the risk of getting sick and affecting the performances), plus you can keep up a healthy food regimen, otherwise, you depend on whatever menus you find from place to place (especially if you're outside the US).

And I remember reading a few weeks ago that the good thing about Fiji water is that it helps your bones or something like that...

Oh yeah all the food stuff sounds completely reasonable. It's just the cups

Yeah. And I'm pretty sure Solo cups are available everywhere...

But all the rest of the food looks delicious.

Yeah but think about it ... how serious do you think that is? lol I really can't see Billie, Mike or Tre turning down a drink because it's not in the right colour cup XD

Don't they have red cups in the 'Why are there no clouds in the sky?' part of Bullet in a Bible?

I know that was the previous tour, but still...

omg, I'm discussing GD's backstage cup-colour preference what is my life?

Haha true, I'm sure they wouldn't throw a diva strop if they had to use a straw that was a different colour to their cup. But they do request it and that's pretty picky.

They've upgraded, plain old common red cups are no longer acceptable :D

Interesting article, thanks for sharing!

"Mexican, Korean, Italian, Chinese and Japanese dishes are favorites"...I concur :sherlock:

This was a very interesting read, it's always good to learn more about what happens in the backstage. Thanks for sharing :)

What even is a burrito?

I read somewhere that they had guacamole everywhere on the last tour and when they did that outdoor Top If The Pops (rip) they had cases of Fiji Mountain water and room for all their luggage backstage. Why I remember this, I cannot say

Yeah we don't really do Mexican food over here do we

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burrito

I knew it was a popular Mexican food but I didn't know exactly what it was until I just looked it up. But Americans eat Mexican stuff all the time like we eat Indian stuff.

Ahhh d'accord, I get it now. :)

I loved it to read this article  now we know what Green day likes to eat... you don't know when you could use THIS fact in the future :shifty:

hmmm I'll try the Ravioli. sounds and looks good

btw: thanks for posting it :)

Interesting to know what they eat on tour... I guess. :P

I want their food. Well actually just half the time, I'm not a giant fan of Korean, Chinese and Japanese food.

As for the cups and straws and umbrellas thing... There's practical reasons for the cups and umbrellas, and as for the colour, they have to buy the cups *somewhere* and if they can just buy a load of cups in bulk in Philly in the preferred colour, then I don't see the problem. I mean, I don't think the guys will all be like "Oh no, I'm not drinking that, it's in a red cup!". I suppose it's more practical to just have a big stash of cups instead of having to buy new cups every two weeks. Same goes for the straws. It's just not a lot of work to do that. Unlike "no brown M&M's", haha.

A "wet burrito" sounds gross. I've never seen anyone call it that. We usually just say "smothered" as in "smothered with red or green chili".

btw, I can't believe people don't know what burritos are. They're the best.

 Yeah it sounds soggy. I've never had or seen a burrito but I like similar things like enchiladas and fajitas and stuff, all variations of the same thing really. I wish there were Mexican fast food places/restaurants here because I'd love them!
