Guest EDIT Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I wish they were either the biggest band in the world that everybody talked about or the smallest and one of the least known.
petros Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Well I don't really care...I just listen to the fuckin music and I like it even if the band is famous or not.But they really deserve the success they have won because of the hard work they're doing!
gloria123 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I don't really care how big they are because no matter how big they get they stay true to themselves. Plus we have all their side projects that mainstream people don't really know about. But I do have to say thatvi find it really annoying when I hear girls in my grade singing songs like 21 guns because it's like "dude! You don't even know who Green Day is! So just shut up"
letterbomb_19 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Yes, only for the reason their shows would be cheaper. but a Green Day ticket for their concert (not a festival) isn´t so expensive. I mean they are very popular and successful, but altough they sell their tickets for a price, so that people could buy tickets. many other big band sell their tickets for much more money. that´s one more reason why I love Green Day
Hanako Alice Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 well... If they weren't a big band they would probably not come to Belgium or other small lands... But sometimes... Some people aren't real fans and than try to act like they are a greater fan than you and I just hate that.... (There was a girl trying to get before me on a show and she only knew the lines of 21guns '-.- That was just one moment I hated it they are that big)
Isabel Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 There are times when I go to see smaller bands and I think "Wow, imagine what it'd be like to see Green Day in a venue as small as this?" But that desire pretty much subsides after a while. I love the fact that they're such a huge band and can still maintain the same level of intimacy with fans at a stadium show as bands who will play to less than 1,000 people in a club. well... If they weren't a big band they would probably not come to Belgium or other small lands... Actually, it can be quite the opposite sometimes. Quite often, smaller bands have to play more shows in more places to make as much money from shows as possible. Like, when bands play over here, they'd often go to Belfast as well because it may not be worth their while to only play in Dublin. Green Day played Belfast on the last tour but that was the first time they had done so in 11 years. Since then, they had only been playing in Dublin so fans up north were missing out.

I love the fact that they're such a huge band and can still maintain the same level of intimacy with fans at a stadium show as bands who will play to less than 1,000 people in a club. And they can still do a great job of playing to less than 1000 people in a club too! Shame they don't do it a bit more often.
oscar is a nimrod Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Ha! No. I'm beyond proud of them. They worked their fucking asses off, they overcame alot of bullshit from people in their hometown and Gilman for it, and they absolutely deserved it. If they weren't as big, they wouldn't be able to reach nearly the audience they've reached, and made the impact they've made. Even with things like charity. Being as big as they are allows them to be able to give back more, and we all know they give back quite a bit. Even when they weren't signed to Reprise, they were still rocking the living hell out of every show that they played. They were getting too big to stay on Lookout! and Larry Livermore can attest to that. They were always destined to be where they are now, and if it wasn't Reprise, it would have been another major label. They were too popular for indie labels, and they knew it. They wanted to be able to make music for their career, and they're able to do that. Being smaller would make it harder on them to have done everything it is that they did, and to live that dream of a career in music. And as I stated before- they were getting alot of attention and praise before they ever blew up. This would have happened one way or another. They worked too hard, and care too much about making music to just settle. And let's be honest, 95% of us wouldn't know who they are had they not signed to Reprise, and gotten big. To wish they weren't as big as they are is stupid, at least, to me. I know that they've impacted me in a huge way, and that my life is better off for having found them. We know they care about Gilman and where they came from, but they weren't just going to sit back and let that be as far as they ever went. They're too brilliant of a baInternet, hmv, pulp in Bristol, also h & m had a few (sex pistols, clash, ramones)nd for that, and they deserved so much more than that. They got it. I'm happy. I've found a band that means more than words can express, and they still make every effort to have a relationship with their fans, despite them being a world famous, Grammy winning band. That's just a title. They are who they are. They did what they did. And they deserve what they have. I'd also like to add that they are where they are, because they want to be. They made that choice to pursue a major label and see where they could go and what they could do with it. excellent summing up there! That's mainly how I feel, however I do think it would be awesome if they did a bunch of shows in smaller places eg 100 people max could fit in. But I guesse that I wouldn't get to see them at all then.... :/
sara_gd Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I'd like it to be like with Nimrod or Warning, when they had lots of fans, but not as many "21GUNS IS SO COOL, I LOVE BILLY JOE!" people, or people who hate them because of what they think Green Day is (mostly because of the first group of people). But I actually think that in some point they're going to go down again (and probably up again later), and I wouldn't mind it really. The problem I see is that if they weren't big they wouldn't tour so many places, and that's not a good thing.
oda Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 After watching the movie Bridesmates i've secretly wished that by the time i get married they'll be this washed out old band nobody listens to anymore (but still does whatever gig they can) so i could book them to play at my wedding. It's just a silly thought though. I am very proud of what they have achieved.
JaseminTheIdiot Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 sometimes.. someday I wish they were small and I could see them in a gilman show, or something like that. But another time I think, it's great beeing at a big fat Open Air Same here
veroPasalacqua Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 No, really. Okay, maybe sometimes I wish they should play more often in little clubs. Like some other bands, who aren't such big bands like Green Day. But I dont care, they are a very big band and they will stay it forever. I'm happy with it and yeah ... I like big stadium shows.
sara_gd Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I don't see why the fangirls drive people so insane. I mean, yeah, they can get a bit irritating, but in general- why does anybody actually care what they do? If they like a few songs, cool. If they want to think Billie's hot, let them. Sure, it comes with the territory of Green Day being big, but what does that actually matter? I mean, seriously. I've witnessed a crazed girl jump on Billie and slam her mouth on his, and it sickened me, and I'm sorry that they have to go through that, but it's an unfortunate repercussion for the choice they made to further their career and take it where they did. Sure, they never wanted THAT, but I'd say the good outweighs some of the crazy shit they have to deal with. What drives me mad about fangirls is that they're a lot, and people in general relate them to the fanbase and to what the band is like. So you'll have tons of people telling you "Green Day? They make music for 14 year old girls", and I don't like that to be the general opinion.
burnout409 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 If Green Day are happy, then I'm happy and looking at everything they have said and done over the years, i think they're happy
Moyeszet Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 NO. I even ever wanted they would be a bigger band. They're not as such popular in fuckin France. In fact, frenchies have very BAD tastes in music and just dunno Green Day.
Hermione Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 If Green Day are happy, then I'm happy and looking at everything they have said and done over the years, i think they're happy Great way of looking at it! I agree
jon18 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 NO. I even ever wanted they would be a bigger band. They're not as such popular in fuckin France. In fact, frenchies have very BAD tastes in music and just dunno Green Day. I totally agree. French like to listen rap, electro and all the worst music. It's a shame.
KatherineKerplunk Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I am so happy where they are now and how much they have achieved. If they weren't such a big band then they wouldn't be playing stadiums around the world and to over 65,000 people at Milton Keynes and Wembley Stadium. Be proud that they that they have achieved this!
jon18 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Even if they are one of the biggest rock band of our generation, i think Green Day is underrated. Their carrer is admirable and Billie Joe is an amazing songwriter. I'm not english-speaking but his lyrics impress me. I'm very proud to be a Green Day fan.
Monica. Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I don't see a reason for them not to be a "big" band or whatever, so if they're happy, which it seems like they are, then I am definitely happy. They have been an amazing band over the years, they deserve the recognition.
Moyeszet Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I totally agree. French like to listen rap, electro and all the worst music. It's a shame. Yes, in fact all around in europe you SEE that there's not-english-speaking countries that are mass fans of GD (i mean, germany, netherlands, nordic countries and all that stuff). But France? No, they still listening to the worst autotuned music, yeah. it's difficult to find fans here. So you HAVE to be proud of beeing fan of a band which's not your culture or your environnement... even if it's a very big band all around the world...
