gdpony Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 No. it's nice they get the recognition they deserve. And if they weren't big a lot of people wouldn't get the chance to know them.
Rancid punk:LTD Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 I do wish they could play small shows like Goat island. that was kind of my point, sorry I didn't make it more clear, forgive me? it's not that I don't wish them sucess I just was talking about how their poularity faded during Warning so not a gazillion people came to the shows. I DO think some people take the fan thing too far. "oh my god guys Billie and I will be married some day." or "I wish he'd leave 80 for me" I'm sure most of us havee heard that before and it pisses me off. So do the people that only know one or two albums/songs. They way under rated for the punk stuff they do that's not the pop-punk element. example: I think more people who aren't fans know more about 21cb than Insomniac, I wish the older stuff was more popular.
jamesobxfan2296 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I really don't care. They deserve what their fan base because they worked so hard. They get to reward themselves with the huge fan base. Just my opinion.
bass boy Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Sometimes i guess. Then that way the only people that would know about them are their true fans so there would be less anti green day people. Buuuut if they werent as big, i would have never heard of them and their shows wouldnt be as epic so yknow.
marta_gs Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 not really. I like how big they are, it's fully deserved!! I just don't like the "fangirls" but I can't do anything with that so I don't really care... of course if they weren't so big, it could have its benefits, but they already passed that stage. I mean, after 20 years of doing (awesome) music it's more than deserved how they are right now!
Guest Billies Angel Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 no i like that they get recognition they dreseve... they dresve it
Hermione Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I like how even though the OP specifically made clear that they're happy for Green Day getting the success and fans they deserve, almost every reply just says "Green Day deserve their success and fans"
Laura! Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 They're a big band because more and more people have realized how amazing they are. I don't care one bit.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Would definitely prefer them to not be on Warner yes. Would prefer them not to be brown nosed by Kerrang, would prefer them to play smaller venues and would prefer them not being as badly marketed as often as they are, with the wrong single choices, and videos that make them seem like some random emo band. I think they should start releasing stuff on Adeline rather than Warner tbh. Case in point: Awesome as ****. Get a fucking grip!
Mar Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Sometimes ... only because I wish they could play smaller, intimate venues.
Schlappy Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 an interesting question... on one hand greater success means more annoying so called "fans". you know, the people that know two songs and live to bug the hell out of us? you know the type. dont even get me started on their boyfriends... haha matt. BUT on the other hand the bigger they are the more accessible they are for us all to enjoy! there tours go all around the world and last three fucking years. theyre on tv, the radio, etc a lot more and they got attention enough to have a musical! plus think of all the fantastic fans we get to meet because of the success of this site alone! plus, they can basically do whatever they want now. theres not much pressure to please anyone besides themselves due to the grander of their influence. so id say its definitely worth it. the bigger they are the farther they can reach out
ParadoxAndPlaid Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Not at all, they deserve the success and notoriety they have now. They work so hard, and they have pure talent. I'm proud of them, and I'm happy that so many people share this love for their music. I've met so many different wonderful people through their music. It's great. The only thing I would say that I sort of dislike about them being so big is that they can't play too many small, intimate shows. But I understand and accept that. Anyway they still manage to make every fan in a huge stadium feel spacial.
Sleeper Agent. Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 with green day not being as famous, this place wouldn't exsist
Marlee Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 can i still buy there albums? yes. everything else is irrelevant to me
Stanzie Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Of course not. This is starting to sound like a broken record, but they deserve the recognition. Personally, I think its a little immature to think otherwise. Being a big, famous and popular band doesn't take away the talent and what it means to people. Green Day has literally saved lives. The world of music is definitely better with them being a little more famous.
clairex Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 No, because they worked hard for the success and earned it unlike a lot of the new music "stars" who get instant fame.

I don't know if releasing stuff on Adeline instead of Warner would be the necessary solution or if just the band itself taking more interest in/control of those aspects would do it. But the things you listed are definitely annoying. And if it's being on Warner that prevents the band from doing that (rather than them just choosing not to) I'd welcome a move. Of course their being big makes no difference to the music or what an amazing band they are, and the success and recognition and fans and exposure are all great, totally positive things. But there are some irritating cons along with all the pros.
WestboundSign! Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Sometimes. There are days I wish I could have seen them in their Kerplunk era or something like that. Smaller concerts, more personal. But there are also days I'm glad to be able to see them in a big Open Air. Altogether I don't really care, 'cause for me, just the music counts.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Yep I agree with this. But there are some irritating cons along with all the pros. I get the feeling they're really quite passive with that sort of stuff, in the end the reason they're so amazing is they make great albums, play great live shows and have something to say (which is what great bands should come down to) and I think that's all they really care about, but I'd like to see them shake it up a little bit at some point.
LinziLetterbomb Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Green Day deserve to be a big band! They work so hard and make such amazing music. I love the fact they are popular
pasalaska Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 The only reason I'd say sometimes is in regards to their privacy and the hysteria that can surround them. While I know that they don't get a lot of paparazzi attention and all that, they still do, and they didn't ask for that. Seeing photos of them and their families that obviously weren't taken with permission makes me uncomfortable. Same with the hysteria; people flocking them just because they're famous. Seeing the crowds outside the St James when Billie was playing St Jimmy, and the professional autograph sellers - I did not like that at all. It's one thing to be mobbed by actual fans, but people that just want to use them, that's wrong.
Bastard of 1967 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Yep I agree with this. But there are some irritating cons along with all the pros. Guess who owns a partial stake in Adeline? It's not just Billie Joe, Adrienne, Jason W., and a few other musicians. Yeah, that's right....they're part of Warner's evil empire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Warner_Music_Group_labels#Independent_Label_Group So... even though Adeline is on the one hand an "indy label", when you drill a little deeper that ain't necessarily so. But I still think that's great -- in a sense, Adeline can serve as a "feeder label" for small, less-well-known punk bands that will have a big label already "partially" behind them if and when the time comes for one of them to take a step up the publicity ladder. Emily's Army being the next case in point, methinks! Go Joey'n'friends!!
greendaytone Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 There was a time around American Idiot era when i felt like this a bit. Having experienced the band being on a lower level of popularity, then to see them 'liked' by every man and his dog, there was a part of me that was thinking, i want Green Day back to myself (not that they were all mine at all). That's partly a maturity thing though i think, nowadays i'm more filled with pride for everything they do that makes them bigger and more successful. And it's a real testament to them as people how they've kept themselves relatively well grounded despite the heights they've reached. They're still more than willing to "get down and dirty" as Billie Joe says, and appear as happy to play in a small intimate venue as a stadium show. They're much more accessible to their fans than any other band of a relative size that i can think of.
