TheSaltOfTheEarth Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I agree with the people above here, that there are too many aspects of Green Day to be summed up into one song. That being said, however, If I had to pick I'd probably go with the majority here, which is Minority (lol). That's because it's from Warning, aka the borderline between the old and the new, so it's a perfect mix based on the sound of the music. And it's not your typical-sounding punk rock Dookie-esque song either, which shows Green Day's way of deviating from the norm in terms of their music. Also, the lyrical themes encompass exactly what Green Day is all about - being yourself, doing your own thing and fuck everyone who doesn't like it. The lyrics are deep and meaningful, obviously, but also have that kind of funny, quirky feeling at the same time, which I think is a big aspect of Billie's lyrics throughout all of their albums.
pasalaska Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 The diversity and evolution of Green Day's sound to me makes it impossible to have one single defining song for the band. There are certainly highlights over the band's various eras, but to say one single song is not representative of Green Day's music as a whole. you could certainly have defining themes of Green Day's music, such as the celebration of being a loser or the minority, the empowerment of the everyday person, etc.
Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I don't think there's any one song that defines Green Day. Even if you wanted to try to define their career, there isn't just one song that defines it. They've had hits every era, so no single song could define them, and they've been around for far too long. And to just define them as a band? There isn't any one song there either. Every song they've ever written defines them. They put so much into their music, and that means that anybody could say any song, and it would define the band. With artists like Green Day, they give everything their all, and that makes it too hard to just choose one single song, so I'm not going to.
pasalaska Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Green Day, the song! ahaha, why did no one else think of saying that?
Viva_La_Revolution! Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Jesus of Suburbia because it has diffrent parts and reflects diffrent pieces of the band, and has good lyrics, diffrent sounds and also has part of the story of the jos and jimmy. I dont think you can define them by a song tho, because they have so many songs that could work, but if an album, maybe a updated version of International Superhits! ? Because that would be full of songs that define them
Lauralovesgreenday Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 i would say walking contradiction. its got the clever, funny lyrics, the bold chord sequence and i would say its the speed green day usually play at (:
