Fuzz Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I think to suddenly dislike a band because they don't like Green Day is a bit ridiculous. Especially since from what I remember, they've always been cool with each other. I'm sure Greg was just making one of his iconic, unfunny jokes. Yeah, I guess I'll just stick to disliking them because they're not really that great.
AndrewW91 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Agreed on the first part but I'm pretty sure what he said wasn't a joke. I don't see how that could be a joke even if it was an unfunny one. Sounds like Bad Religion fans making excuses to me I wasn't there, so I guess I don't know if it was a joke or not. I'm just going on what I know about Bad Religion. I'm just used to seeing Greg making his jokes in between songs. Even if it wasn't a joke, I don't care. I like Green Day, I like Bad Religion. Just because one doesn't like the other, doesn't mean I'm going to stop listening to them. We all have our own opinions and whatnot.

I dunno I just don't see how what the OP posted that he said could be a joke , just doesn't sound like someone trying to be funny. Absolutely agreed though. Someone being a bit bitter about something isn't even really a reason to dislike the person, let alone dislike their music LOL! Anyone who actually stops listening to them because of this is an idiot.
GDM Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 When I saw Bad Religion in NYC last year, he bashed the musical, actually. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was a definite dig at Green Day. I really didn't understand where it was coming from since I thought that they were friends or at least respected each other. I was kinda taken aback by it, actually.
Izzard Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 At least they don't pick stupid petty fights. Big deal, get over it. You're no the reason they got to where they are today. I don't see why they have to cry and be like "boohoo why didn't Green Day thank us!!!?!?!!" Get over your selves, BR.
NickD Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 kinda hard for green day to take bad religion on tour when green day take year long tours and bad religion on tours during greg's school vacations...
waninko Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I think to suddenly dislike a band because they don't like Green Day is a bit ridiculous. Especially since from what I remember, they've always been cool with each other. I'm sure Greg was just making one of his iconic, unfunny jokes. That. Read it. As any BR fan would know (who've seen them a couple times live (or more) in person or on youtube) Greg is synonymous with failing to achieve the intended humor. For instance, here, after Fat Mike comes on stage he calls out for security. He's not serious, just trying to be funny with his "special type" of humour Here (at 0:54 to 1:07) he's being funny-greg once again, haha I'm sure he in this case just tried to be funny, without, as in most cases, actually beeing funny. They're cool with GD.
Sabz Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 On The Bad Religion Page forums, Jay Bentley (their bassist) has a thread where he answers our questions. I should ask him if they're really upset with Green Day. That would clear this whole situation up! It'd be great to see if they actually are upset with them, but i hope they arent
Riotgrrl_GD Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 he behaved himself tonight lol http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2050/5712011703_85573002d9.jpg Nice shot! He's doing the point, HA! Honestly, I still love BR. After my first show I'd love follow them on tour and the only band I have ever followed across the country is GD. Thier discography is massive, they barely scratched the surface on Tuesday night. The show was great and I'll see them the very next chance I get - regardless of their opinion of GD. Don't we all have friends who don't like our beloved trio? Yeah, we'll still be friends.
A Killjoy from Detroit Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Why do they gotta take stabs at the musical...?

Lindsey Love Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I don't know if anyone has mentioned this already, but if I recall correctly Bad Religion once opened for Green Day (maybe it's the other way around) at The Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, CA once and got booed off stage because the fans wanted to see Green Day or something like that. Now I'm not absolutely positive if my facts are straight, but maybe Bad Religion is still bitter about small things like that. I love both bands and have so much respect for them, however that little situation may have pissed off BR more than it should've. Sometimes the past sort of creeps up on you and you say things you don't entirely mean. I don't know if that helped at all, just wanted to put that out there.

The Phoenix isn't a big venue, and I can't see Bad Religion supporting Green Day back when Green Day were still on Lookout or when Dookie was released, and Green Day surely wouldn't have played such a small venue once they got big. Plus, that'd make Greg's whole point about never being asked to open for Green Day wrong, wouldn't it? not saying you're wrong, just that that sounds a bit strange.

I did an interview with Tom Gaffey, the owner about a year ago and he said something about this. If I can find the media file I'll look into again. Green Day must've been opening because I think you're right. BR was much bigger than them in the early days. HOWEVER, I do know that Green Day's last gig on independent was at The Phoenix the day before they signed big. So they were already getting pretty big at that point. Really can't say I'm an expert on the subject I'm only relaying what I was told. Green Day knew Gaffey pretty well back then. I can't see him getting his information totally wrong because he was there.

Venster Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Hi all, Yes, I can confirm that Green Day opened for Bad Religion at the Phoenix theatre because I am the guy that produced the show with my friend "Big W". I was the one that asked Billy if he would like to play a show with Bad Religion, and he was really excited that I asked him. I knew Jay (the Bass player of Bad Religion) from when I was working in L.A. and got him to ask the band if they would play a show for me at the Phoenix. The show was a birthday party for my friend's-then-GF (hi sweety, you know who you are) and it was freaking awesome! and NO I do not remember anyone really booing any of the bands. If anyone got boo'd, it would have been Green Day because they were not considered 'punk enuf' by most of the scene. PS: WTF Lindsey, you are not old enough to have been at the show!
fiercecircus Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Yeah Green Day NEVER gives back. They didn't donate a whole live system to Gilman St., they didn't get Pansy Division on tour during their big break, they just talk shit about all these bands from the 90's who they respect. /sarcasm I am reading this thread and thinking: 1- Green Day gave to a LOT SMALLER bands than Bad Religion. Pansy Division, The Mr T Experience, the Hi Fives... all bands that NOBODY WOULD EVER KNOW... Bad religion were on fucking Atlantic records for christs sake. They were ON a major label, they MADE IT. 2- Greg is a fucking COLLEGE PROFESSOR, on top of fronting bad religion. The dude makes mad scrill. Maybe not Green Day level scrill, but Bad Religion are def. not starving. 3- every time i think of bad religion i think of that time Greg showed his weener to some girl on chat roulette. or something like that. I can't take bad religion seriously now.
Iminyourcoffeemaker Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 WHO GIVES A FUCK?! I love Bad Religion but honestly, they are done. Let Green Day and an up and coming band make it in the world. Why do you need to open at your age? So you can make extra cash playing huge venues? Fuck off. Go play your medium clubs and then record another record every 6 months like you have been. Green Day is back on its mission to be the biggest band in the world again.

pasalaska Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Wow I did not expect this thread to come back. This debate is dead now, right? no?
