Spider Tre Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 You really can't say like both or what? i meant i like both
Danger! Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 K, that sounds better. I think it'd be too damn hard to choose old or new.
darenmay Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 i like green day's older music better. that is till nimrod. the lyrics are really cool and amazing, and the music is fast and fun.
LauraG Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I think during their career they've definitely changed, both as musicians and performers (with the most dramatic change being probably American Idiot). I personally love EVERY single album (old, new and everything in between). Each one has something that makes it special and meaningful. The thing I like most about Green Day is their incredible variety.
Amanda Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I love Green Day. <snip> Your signature is way too small for this forum, if you really loved Green Day it would be at least a foot taller.
accountdeleted1203 Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Well my favourite 3 albums are Insomniac Nimrod & American Idiot so what type of fan does that make me. The music became more meaningful after warning, the songs made you think about serious things. American Idiot is what made me a fan, but my favourite part was discovering all of the amazing music that came before. I love every album separately and I can be in a mood for a certain album. I LOVE ALL GREEN DAY

It really is the best thing about their music.
Webb_2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 For me it depends on my mood. . . Sometimes I'll only listen to "older" Green Day stuff and then there are sometimes when I'll only listen to the "newer" material. And there are times when I listen to any song, old or new. . . All I know is, whatever mood I'm in, I can always find a Green Day song that fits it and that's why I love them so much! I love Green Day!!!
Kristen M Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 It's really hard to say because if Billie were still singing about having crushes on girls I would be really creeped out it's probably much better that the band and their style have grown with age
littlegirl-of-suburbia Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I like the old and new Green day (american idiot is my favorite album but my fav song at the moment is christie road) i just find it natural that Green day have different eras when it comes to music style so it gets me pissed off when people say i want the old green day back (i don't have anything against people who say that they prefere old to new) they have grown up since 1039SOSH and the music has evolved too any way green day rocks
Snoopy. Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I think I'm one of the very few fans who prefers the new stuff to the old stuff, generally speaking. That's not to say I don't love every album they've put out, though. you aren't, Same here!
Zelda Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I've been reading a lot of the replies to this thread...and this seems to be a recurring thing (can't think of a better word than that ). Why do people hate (or maybe I should say dislike) 21CB so much? Yeah, some of the songs sound similar to other songs, (i.e. American Eulogy and Deadbeat Holiday). But have you heard the Ramones? Some of their songs sound similar. Same with Bad Religion. But does that mean that the music is bad? No. Honestly, I didn't notice the similarities until people pointed them out on GDC. Plus, Green Day tends to 'borrow' riffs from other artists (Brain Stew and 24 or 6 to 4 by Chicago, Warning and I believe it's Picture Book by the Kinks). But you know what? That happens a lot in music. Artists borrow and reuse riffs and melodies all the time. And sure, Butch Vig didn't do as well as a producer as he could have, but once again, that doesn't make the record bad. If you really don't like the "new" Green Day, then think of the "new" music as a side project. If you really love the old music, you can be content and just listen to that and not get tired of it. I just needed to let that out...I love 21CB, and I just don't get why people hate it. Green Day is Green Day. Just listen to the music and stop griping about whether it's the "new" or "old" Green Day.
koolkev Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 anybody prefer his old voice more than his new voice?^^ and yes why does everyone hate on 21CB?!?! saying "it's not punk" That's bullshit

Just listen to the music and stop griping about whether it's the "new" or "old" Green Day. Don't worry not everyone hates it . It became my new favourite Green Day album when it came out and it still is . I think they outdid themselves with it. When it first came out magazines and reviewers were raving about it and many were saying it was better than American Idiot. But then they made such poor/unadventurous single choices, and then abruptly abandoned promoting it only 6 months after it came out (at exactly the same time the AI musical stuff started) and only promoted the musical and songs from the musical from then onwards. I really think a lot of it's unpopularity is because of the lack of promotion and because the promotion they did do was so lame. When it first came out everyone loved it but then the band/label threw away any chance of it getting the recognition it deserved. I mean it won the Best Rock Album Grammy! But even when it won that the song they performed at the ceremony was 21 Guns Feat. the AI Musical Cast. Even that night they chose to promote the musical over the album. It's really their own fault

To me it's the opposite, I think it sounds just so fresh and new... And that's mainly why I love it so much, I love how the songs are so different from each other, and how good it is to listen to the album all the way through! It's just awesome. I also don't get some people, the main thing I love about Green Day's music is that EVERY album has a different feel to it, and sound, that they could even be from total different bands... Unlike soooo many rock bands these days.
oda Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 ? Where are those 2 songs alike? Just sing it out loud "Wake up the house is on fire" "Red alert is the colour of panic"
bollard_11 Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 GreenDay sux, havent released a gud album since Dooky
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 21st CB just isn't as good. Nothing to do with the singles, the singles for American Idiot didn't reflect the sound of the album either but that's my favourite album. Nothing to do with lack of promotion, I couldn't give a shit how they're promoted, they're on Warner and one of its biggest bands, promotion is irrelevant they're not some indie band on an underground label. Sonically, the old stuff also doesn't go too far out of its comfort zone either but that also has nothing to do with why I don't like 21st CB. The lyrics are messy on a few of the songs, they also committed the horrific sin of trying to rewrite a hit (21 Guns is a terrible BOBD). There are more poor tracks on it than any Green Day album and sometimes it gives the impression of trying too hard. I couldn't rate anything on it among Green Day's best tracks, with the exception of the title track and possibly Peacemaker or the two Viva La Glorias. I should add that trying to outdo American Idiot with the same basic template was never ever going to work, American Idiot is so good because it shouldn't work but does, every ingredient fits and it sits on the right side of genius. Trying to do the same again, something is always going to be off that just messes up the whole thing. For example the lyrics on American Idiot lie on the right side of theatrical yet meaning something and being clever lines, I think 21st Century Breakdown lies on the other side, which is trying too hard to replicate that style and doesn't ring true the same way.
billiejoephil Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 GreenDay sux, havent released a gud album since Dooky Another goddamn troll The lyrics are messy on a few of the songs, they also committed the horrific sin of trying to rewrite a hit (21 Guns is a terrible BOBD). Unlike soooo many rock bands these days. 100% agreed. 21st CB is the opposite thing to all their previous stuff for me, and I like that. It's new and shows that the band has grown up, also musically. Green Day have developped and THAT makes them a great band for me. U2 for example, didn't develop as much as Green day for me, I like Bono and co., but a lot of their songs sound similar, which isn't the case in Green Day songs. My opinion.
Tubbie Head Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Just sing it out loud "Wake up the house is on fire" "Red alert is the colour of panic" Hahah nice! I never get these things xD But really, that's such a little similarity, nobody can say the two songs are alike! 'Cause all the elements are distinct. Well, at least that's what I think =)
Guest Billies Angel Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 well to me i have to say i love the old & new
