GreenRanger Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Voting is so much nicer when you see the numbers going up instead of down. I concur.
Katarina. Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I just realized that they're using PollDaddy to count the votes. If you vote again it says "Thank you, we've already counted your vote". Meaning, any extra votes you make aren't being counted, people are just wasting their time doing it over and over again till they block you. I knew they're using PollDaddy. What's the purpose of them having a voting limit then? Cause PollDaddy has the option to block people for 1-12 hours, even a month I think. These polls for the contest block people for like 2 hours when they vote too much. Why doing that if only one vote counts? Doesn't make sense to me.

I mean If I have voted the first time when this poll started that vote is the only one that has been counted?

Because it makes us mass voters feel better about ourselves when we vote a bunch of times! To me it's therapy...like an undead monkey to Jack Sparrow with a gun.
Fuzz Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 So it only count once in the whole thing? I mean If I have voted the first time when this poll started that vote is the only one that has been counted? Yeah, if you see the message that says "Thanks, we've already counted your vote", that means they're tracking your browser (or computer) and know you already voted. I realized this because we use PollDaddy on GDA, and we can set a limit that people can only vote once (tracked by cookies), and when someone tries to vote again if they already have, the same message comes up.
Stormy Haze Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I know it has been asked before, but is there a mobile site for this? Also, what's the % now? Sorry, but I'm on my phone...
Hedwig Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I know it has been asked before, but is there a mobile site for this? Also, what's the % now? Sorry, but I'm on my phone... Green Day 51.89% Disturbed 48.11% And idk if there's a mobile site..

No, PollDaddy isn't blocking people because they hit a vote limit, they're blocking them because they're voting too often (and basically, they block people who appear to be abusing their system so that someone can't write a script that would cause their servers to crash). So they take one vote, then if you vote again they politely say "Thanks, we've already counted your vote", then show you the results. But if someone continually goes back and votes voer and over and over, they block it so someone can't crash the system. That's why the results don't show up, because they're blocking that person from doing anything that would add more load on a server. It wouldn't make sense to hide the results just because someone hit the vote-limit. And as far as I'm aware, PollDaddy doesn't let a user of their polls to say "People can vote X amount of times before being blocked". That's something they do for their own security. Users can only choose to only allow one vote, then track those votes via IP, via cookie, or allow multiple votes.

I noticed they are also tracking the IP address, just deleting cookies to vote again won't work. Yeah, I thought it was weird you can't view the results while you're blocked. I think they should've made it more clear you can only vote once.
greendaytone Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Interesting to know, Fuzz. Time to paste this all over facebook etc one and all. Let's see Green Day through to the final!!!
norcalgreendayfan Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Warner.. Oh I know they are something else

Florence Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 WHAT THE FUCK?!? I spent hours and hours to vote like a maniac...and it DID ONLY COUNT ONCE? grrr! I wanna destroy something right now!
JC Supermarket! Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Hey guys! I'm all better now, time to vote in the last hours of the poll...
Satan Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 we've hit 52%, awesome a little over 6 hours left. we're totally gonna win this
M3G4N Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Sucks that I wasted all that time voting, but it's good to know that Green Day actually has that awesome of a fan base.. not just us voting obsessively.
Stormy Haze Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Finally on my computer... so I've been wasting all this time for nothing?
GreenRanger Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 we've hit 52%, awesome a little over 6 hours left. we're totally gonna win this Yeah, there's time left. Lord knows once our boost wears out we'll start petering back out again. It's not over yet...this same thing happened last time.
Doll Parts Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Well I feel like a moron for voting so many times. Well, if that's the case then I'll just sit back and watch.
Satan Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 actully i don't feel too bad about all the time i wasted voting. in fact, i sorta wish i didn't know that it only counted once, it makes me feel so useless
Katarina. Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I've not been very active in this round but I don't regret voting like hell because it was fun. Yeah it was fun indeed. I'm glad I didn't mass vote except for that one time we tried it, and now I know why it didn't work out, ahaha. It's funny though if people voting for the other bands still think they can vote more than once.. They should come here and read this thread to find out xD
