DecanoLP Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Awesome song, it has grown on me a lot in the past Such a shame we don't have a single recording of the performance in Quebec
farley drexel hatcher Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I think I have listened to this song twice ... if that. Still beats The Judges Daughter! All that aside, it's very sweet and endearing, Sweet enough to give you a toothache xD
Ellenkc Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I don't like this song The lyrics are horribly cringy and I don't think the music is all that great.
addictedjamie Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I know they don't really like this song. but it's one of my favourites. It's like, when you're so in love that whether something is soppy doesn't matter too much, so you just share what you really think. It's beautiful
Metanoia Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Well we all know it's a supercheesy song, but thats what I kinda love about it. The lyrics are all romantic and I could melt when I hear it. Also the "We'll never break as one too strooooooong" parts are just dmöskös *-* Also I love the melody and the end is just woah Ya as you can tell, it's one of my favorites of their old ones. Whatever people will say about you 1,000 hours, I'll always love you
Anja Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Why would it have been Billies intent to rhyme "need" with "grace"? It obviously does not rhyme and I dont think he wanted it to seem like a rhyme
pasalaska Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Why would it have been Billies intent to rhyme "need" with "grace"? It obviously does not rhyme and I dont think he wanted it to seem like a rhyme well the rest of the song rhymes, and the way he sings those two lines kinda sounds like he's trying to make them rhyme as much as possible without completely distorting the words.
Anja Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 well the rest of the song rhymes, and the way he sings those two lines kinda sounds like he's trying to make them rhyme as much as possible without completely distorting the words. hmm, i never really noticed the rhymes (and I still kinda fail to do so lol). Well, "night" and "bright" rhyme or "hair" and "share". But the melody makes it kinda hard to recognize the rhymes unless you read through the lyrics. But maybe that's just because of the rhythm of the song. Or that it's in English. Or that it's monday night:P
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Definitely not among my favourites. As for the lyrics, I'm fine with cheesiness, but this is just too much. I see how it's very sweet and teenage love and all, but it's just tooooo bad. The first verse is still okay and sweet and all and if it went on like that I'd probably be all "awwwwwww sweet song " but then there's the chorus and the second verse and it goes all wrong especially "We'll never break, as one too strong" is like, *GIANT CRINGE*. just reminds me of (using Dutch phrases, sorry) all those (pre-)teens writing shit to each other like ntb wjnmk jbma etc etc while they're frigging 13 and are barely out of the cooties phase and Also I don't really like the sound of the song, musically. It's not bad, but it just doesn't click with me. well the rest of the song rhymes, and the way he sings those two lines kinda sounds like he's trying to make them rhyme as much as possible without completely distorting the words. Still sounds like "silhouette of your grease" to me also for the longest time I heard "silhouette of you're agreed".
Hermione Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Still sounds like "silhouette of your grease" to me also for the longest time I heard "silhouette of you're agreed". Oh my god it totally does sound like silhouette of your grease . That's it, that's how I'm gonna hear it every time I listen to the song from now on.
TheSaltOfTheEarth Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Oh my god, this song. This song alternately makes me cringe and go 'awwwwwwww' depending on when I'm listening to it. It's so fucking cute though, to imagine a teenage Billie writing this song. But, then again, it's so god damned cheesy! So, not one of my favourite Green Day songs, but adorable nonetheless.
Isabel Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 So much love for such a sappy song. It's amazing, I never get sick of listening to it. The lyrics are so cute, I especially love the line "Here's this flower I've picked for all the hours that you've spent with meeeee" (must exaggerate on the 'me' ) It's heart melting. And the song itself, musically, is also brilliant. Catchy as hell.
EvanAsFuck Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I actually love this song... Something about the melody and how the words don't quite rhyme but somehow fit together is kinda appealing to me... As cheesy as it is, I think it's brilliant!
Gwen Stacy Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I would like to thank Aska for constantly plugging this song on the SOTW thread 1,000 Hours is one of my favorite Green Day songs. For me it epitomizes the rush of a powerful new love. It's all about being young and in love and not knowing quite what you're doing and all the akward and fun things that come with teenage love. And I like the raw sound of it. Props to Billie for giving teenage love an anthem to call its own.
Xoram Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Okay... I'm going to say it... "1,000 Hours" is definitely one of my top 3 songs from 1039/Smooth. So put my name on the side of those who love the song! J'net had told me a while ago that Aska had been requesting this song for ages, and somehow I got he impression that she wanted to shred it to pieces! So I was kind of looking forward to the onslaught, but now that I read everyone's opinion, especially Aska's and Hermione's I do think the reason behind my love for the song might be one of those case of "it's so shamelessly sappy it's good". Or maybe I'm too much of a romantic, I don't know. My favorite line of the song has to be "Here's this flower, I picked for all the hours that you've spent with me". Cheesy? Yes. Sappy? Definitely. But when you're in love, all you want to do is thank that special persona for making your world beautiful. I also adore the vocalization. I find myself getting all kinds of stares in the bus/plane/train when my lips go "...as one too stroooooooooooooooooooooong-ohhhh-ohhhh-Ohhhh!!!" Silly me.
justcause Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Aw, y'know what - the lyrics are perfect. The beauty in them is their inarticulacy, the grasping to find expression for this big, overwhelming feeling, and it all comes rushing out in stars and kisses. Billie Joe's vocal is so full of the achey bliss of new love - there isn't a cloud in the sky in this song.
The Snark Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 This song is just too adorable and catchy not to like. I can't help but smile whenever I hear it.
Burnout98 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 So sappy, but i just love it. I love the guitar in it. It just sounds so good. I love this song!
November's Storms Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Whatever you think about Al, his drumming in this song is what makes it for me
oda Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I've never actually read through the lyrics before Apparently i had some bad mishearings. "1000 hours, is such a long shot" And that was like the only line i knew and it's totally wrong It isn't a song i listen to very often, but I like the melody.
Anja Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I love the line "We'll never stop once we start." I wish that would apply to Green Day shows
November's Storms Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I love the line "We'll never stop once we start." I wish that would apply to Green Day shows Well it's not far off!
bollard_11 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 This song is on my iPod. And has probably been listened to once. I am a bad fan. But I skip alot of songs on 1039 just because I cannot understand what Beej is saying. Yea I am a shitty fan. Got a problem with that, your welcome to fight me. Or something
sarah? Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 because I cannot understand what Beej is saying. not gonna lie, this thread has inspired me to go and find out the ACTUAL lyrics to this song, because i just usually make them up based on what i think he's saying
